In any event, I'd be surprised to see a legal challenge to a discussion of content stored elsewhere on the internet where the posting of the content wasn't being coordinated on the forums but merely commented upon.  I'm pretty sure it wouldn't go anywhere.  Good thing there are no requests on these boards.

Pilsner, I think that it would, but I don't have access to change that.  Also, I am not sure that you can change it on a thread-by-thread basis.

I've gotten a lot of good stuff from this thread, so I'm going to give a little back:

Murder by Death- In Bocca Al Lupo

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?wtumf9i59l0
Quote from: AMG
There's something about the idea of the Old West -- the lawlessness, the dry, dusty landscape, perhaps -- that appeals to the sinner in everyone (it's no coincidence that Vegas is in the desert), something seen and reflected in John Ford movies or Ennio Morricone film scores. Maybe it's all the empty space, or maybe it's the heat that seems to make people forget about civility and resort to more carnal emotion to settle things. It's exactly these ideas that Murder by Death chose to explore in their outlaw country-inspired In Bocca al Lupo. The title, an Italian idiom for "good luck" (literally "in the mouth of the wolf," to which the enthusiastic response is "crepi," or "kill it"), is perhaps used broadly as a reference to the original language of The Divine Comedy, from which the album seems to be loosely based. It's not that the band reworks the story; rather, it's as if they use characters and ideas from it as inspiration in creating their own work. Which characters exactly, it's not quite clear, but each song has its own story of death or regret, with singer Adam Turla changing his voice to match the feel of each. And to make it even better, stronger, more provocative, everything's placed in a kind of spaghetti Western setting, with strong rolling drums, a sultry tango-esque cello, and Johnny Cash vocals that all sound simply fantastic together. You can practically hear Satan dancing between the strings and the castanets in "One More Notch," and the cold-blooded murder outlined in "Dynamite Mine," with its warning, "Son, cover your ears/Lord, how that blast will ring," is wonderfully chilling. But it's the later tracks, the ones that begin to express remorse for actions done, to progress toward possible salvation, that are even more affecting. "The Big Sleep," the only song that clearly alludes to The Divine Comedy -- "The bailiff leads me back to my cell/Like the riverman ferrying me to Hell" -- is both touching and ominous with its Book of Revelations trumpets, and by the time the haunting "Shiola," which toys with the idea of memory and death and on which Turla sounds unnervingly like the Man in Black, comes around, the only crime that's committed is stealing "a look." It's not complete redemption (although the album does end with the very uplifting "There's still time to start again" refrain), but there's still hope to move past transgressions and find something else, something outside of the harsh, arid climes at hand.

Yelle- Pop Up
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?gim2zzbnjt2No review on the album, but Yelle is a French chick who does electronic pop dance stuff. Its fun, give it a try.

Spiral Architect - A sceptic's Universe

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?z145sotz41r
Quote from: the metal observer
SPIRAL ARCHITECT has produced a magnificent piece of musicianship for the Prog-savvy public. Fans of similar sounding groups such as GORDIAN KNOT or SPASTIC INK would enjoy this album thoroughly if the album has passed by unseen.

Lars K. Norberg's bass playing is almost a carbon copy of the work Sean Malone (whom consequently lends his efforts on the track "Occam's Razor") has done with CYNIC and GORDIAN KNOT. Sean Malone has probably got to be as involved in as many Prog bands as Arnold Schwarzenegger has catch phrases. Tracks like "Conjuring Collapse" and "Insect" are ideal examples of just how technically proficient all the members of this ensemble are. Anyone who listens to this will not be able to disagree with the timely execution and composition of the songs, although it may be over the average listener's head if they have not been subjected to Prog or Fusion Jazz on a regular basis. Many influences from various aspects of music outside of the Metal realm permeate this record from Eastern scales to Jazz drum beats and bass lines.

Ephel Duath - Pain Necessary to Know

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?dx9jnggpdjy
Quote from: Sea of Tranquility
Davide Tiso has put together a new disc that is at times deliberately pretentious yet everything is so meticulously expressed and performed that there is nothing to complain about. From the schizophrenic mood prevalant on the entire album to the dark and swift song arrangements, Pain Necessary to Know is a very powerful statement that treads the dangerous line between fluid jazz and skull-crushing metal. Though there are fewer brass instruments this time around, the band's jazz explorations go far deeper utilising every element the genre has to offer and blending them together with the band's trademark scream vocal ferocity and avant-garde approach.

As its predecessor, the new album is also a disc that could be likened to Mr Bungle, Zappa, and John Zorn. The music presented here is still very spontaneous and littered with ever-changing drum and bass patterns. Furthermore, there is an evident Dillinger Escape Plan touch prevalent that renders Pain Necessary to Know even more immediate and aggressive. The amount of clean vocals has noticeably decreased; actually they would be almost nonexistent had it not been for "I Killed Rebecca", a jazz drum charged piece with siren-like wailing guitars, harrowing whispers during a dark acoustic passage that precedes a very cluttered and multi-layered instrumental section. The song even has some industrial tendencies offered in small segments - incredibly experimental to say the least. All songs are punctuated with a cold, desolate atmosphere; the churning guitar chords quickly develop into explosive walls of sound along with a drummer that is exceptionally talented when it comes to filling the songs with crashing cymbal sounds and remarkable polyrhythms.

Naked City - s/t

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?2wbg9muebdm
Quote from: ground and sky
When every single discussion of an album involves a description based solely on name-dropping various genres, the album's definitely got something going for it. Naked City - the title of this album went on to become the band name for subsequent releases - is one of those albums. So let's get the name-dropping out of the way: the material here consists of whiplash-inducing jump-cuts between countless musical styles - hardcore, free jazz, surf, punk, country & western, prog, soundtrack music, even some funk and some reggae. At any given moment, a beautiful and tranquil piano melody might explode into a pure wall of hardcore skronk; and by the same token, the band is capable of thrashing out with the best of them, then turning on a dime and getting all lighthearted and bouncy.

The impression that Zorn and co. leave, though, is one of unmitigated aggressiveness: with a couple tracks that sound like they came straight off of Ruins albums and a bunch of absolutely ear-shattering hardcore cuts (complete with blast drumming, heavy distorted guitar, and Zorn's sax screaming on top of it all), the sheer loudness of this band is unparalleled. What makes it work is how telepathically tight the band is, and the appearance of aural respites and unexpected influences at every turn. This is one of those rare albums that truly rocks out while still remaining fun to listen to in large part because of its unpredictability (a la Mr. Bungle, only louder, faster, and jazzier). In a word, postmodern. In another: awesome.

and now for something completely different:

Eivind Aarset's Electronique Noire - Light Extracts

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?y99y01itxlx
Quote from: BBC
They say you should never judge a book by its cover, but in this case it's inevitable. You're faced with a vision of subterranean neon lit architecture embraced by subtle digital shading from grey to white. Very cool, very Scandinavian. But before you run off muttering stuff about "icy fjords" under your breath, remember that every once in a while you do find that perfect opus that combines cool with warm, chic with groovy and, dare I say it, jazz with new. For this is no ice-locked stately ship of sorrows, but a vibrant arctic blizzard, bursting with flurries of sonic invention.

Aarset's Electronique Noire have taken up the baton passed by fellow artists such as Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Petter Molvær and others involved in the Norwegian jazz electronica underground. The results are stunning. Stylistically this album sits nearer to Molvaer'srecent attempts at fusing Drum'n'Bass with Hasselesque tone poems, than to Aarset's last outing: the eponymous Electronique Noir. The more Milesian fusion tendencies and heavy rock histrionics have been almost entirely exorcised in favour of forms that fit more snugly into the amorphous world of today's electronic pioneers. As Molvaer's Solid Ether (which featured Aarset) proved last year, jazz of the ECM school could break out of its polite restraints and plug itself into something more contemporary. This album, on Wesseltoft's Jazzland imprint, carries that promise to the next level. Breakbeats collide with glitchy little loops and every once in a while the whole thing erupts with a sonic squall to equal the most intense Ornette or Miles.

Kano - Home Sweet Home

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?4mmmyuza991

From Pitchfork
Quote
Crime rhymes with another one-word player in the blogs 'n' crits Simon-says name game and, as usual, nobody's really winning. "Whatcha call it, grime?/ Call it what ya wanna call it, I'm fine," scoffs the serenely confident Kane Robinson on "Mic Check", one of many decidedly (un)grime tracks on the 20-year-old prodigy's debut album. If g**** is now understood to be everything British, brutish, blackish, hollered, squawking, Dizzeed, manic, squelching, and/or Wiled out, this would-be ambassador is running off the genre's pot-holed backroads onto freshly rolled-over blacktop that's still steaming in its stealth smoothness. Instead of clobbering like a cracked-up Thing popping Pow! pills, this East London MC nightcrawls through the shadows, slipping deep lyrical daggers over beats that are meticulously polished, waxed, and primed to play mirror to Kano's steep autobiographical musings.

A fierce student of both hyper-speed UK beat styles and (gasp!) American hip-hop, this doe-eyed poster boy's intrinsic influences are often bore out by an uncanny camou-flow that slyly adapts to Home Sweet Home's varied sonic textures. "If it's a good flow, it must be Kane," he brags, expertly utilizing the naturally egomaniacal third person. Luckily, unlike many delusional, self-satisfied young crowers, Kano offers enough solid evidence of his vocal dexterity to make Matlock blush.

While recent breakouts like the Game rep their idols with simple ad nauseam shout-outs, Kano's nods are more intrinsic to his rhyming style. Though it's nearly ruined by a cringe-worthy, Black Sabbath-sampling chorus, the clipped-guitar "99 Problems" Jr. scuff-up "I Don't Know Why" finds the MC acutely aping Jay-Z's Blueprint-era cadence (along with a couple Oompa Loompa-esque sing-song lines) as he lands pretty-boy punches with a knowing grin. The album's lead-off title track showcases his roided-chameleon adaptability as he eases listeners into his wordy realm by initially winding-up with a slow, off-kilter flow before gunning in-the-pocket fastballs all over the track's airtight electronic playing field, courtesy of frequent collaborator Mikey J.

Produced by famed world traveler Diplo, the frighteningly impressive "Reload It" provides a living, breathing drum 'n' bass gauntlet that Kano duly annihilates as it skips between double-time snare-snap and ambling, woozy wobble. With guest shots from Ritalin-defying mic sharks Demon and D Double E, the track also offers a crystalline illustration of why Kano's trans-Atlantic potential is off the charts: Relative to his peers' slang-slinging verbal zig-zags, Kano's immaculate enunciation and unruffled demeanor are easily deciphered without a gully-made RWD decoder ring. Not to say his wordplay and content are simple. Along with a wide-range of production styles and multi-flow grandstanding comes an equally assorted thematic breadth. Whether he's bitching-out brut bouncers with verbal assaults ("Typical Me"), ruminating on teenage love (the Streets-produced "Nite Nite"), calling-out closed-minded youths ("Nobody Don't Dance No More"), offering a mega-ton boast-a-thon (the already classic "P's & Q's"), or just getting his Hennessy on ("Remember Me"), Kano injects nearly every track on Home with refreshing depth. Backed by luscious wind-chimes and chipmunk squeal vox samples, the lovey-dovey "Brown Eyes", with its not-so-romantic refrain of "I don't want to fall in love," is noticeably more conflicted and realistic than your typical female-demo pandering fare.

Stellar album cuts like the introspective stunner "Sometimes" see Kano tempering his encroaching stardom with second-thoughts. "When they say I'm the next one to blow I say why do they think me," he admits, "All I do is stay in mostly and sleep/ And all I do is watch Channel U and drink tea/ Why me?" He combats such internal struggles with staggering maturity and an appealing, hard-working sense of earning ends on his own terms. "The hood think I'm signed, they like 'I swear he is'/ But I'm still in the grind writing lines all day, every night," he insists with focused intensity and ghetto guilt on the blue-collar anthem "9 to 5", taking absolutely nothing in his life for granted.

Such striving, self-motivational forces are no stronger than on "Signs of Life", a six-minute-plus cautionary tale marked by arch strings and doom-boom sci-fi bass. Crushing the easy-made glorification of hip-hop's drug-slinging stereotype, he points a clenched fist at a locked-in bruva: "You ain't so rich now/ I bet you feel like a prick now/ Cause where's all your fancy shit now/ Where's your whips, chicks, and your bits now/ Shit, you should have fixed up/ Fuck drugs, the mic you should've picked up/ And it was all for big bucks, now your sittin' in a cell doing sit-ups."

Kano doesn't just defy the sonic tradition of grime on Home Sweet Home, he defies the tidy boxes MCs are usually plopped in upon their arrival. "I'll never have a calm day's rest until my album's in stores next to Kanye West," he claims, and though the likelihood of a record store sorting their wares by first name seems slim, the two MCs do share an urge for multiplicity. Laying down roads every which way, this nimble artist's future destination is promising and unpredictable: No matter what happens to grime, Kano is poised to endure.

Double posting guys, come on. We HAVE a "modify post" feature.

Mono - Under The Pipal Tree

Quote
A two-guitar, all-instrumental band from Tokyo, Mono is into Sonic Youth big time, but as boring as some of Sonic Youth's albums are, at least they sing sometimes and have three different capable singers to keep things from getting too self-indulgent. But Mono's guitar playing on Under the Pipal Tree is mostly second-rate Sonic Youth. One isn't surprised that someone named Yoda is playing guitar, and the swirling, Sonic Youth-like guitars on "Karelia (Opus 2)," the epic, 12-minute-long song that leads off the album, are quite beautiful. But from there, it's more of the same, an incredible amount of repetition. Mono has its moments; obviously, the band impressed John Zorn, who is the album's executive producer. But it needs to come up with an original sound of its own, as there are too many bands stealing their ideas from Sonic Youth.

Spot's self-titled, first and last album.  A great band who were consigned to record label hell. Hope you like.

Quote
Spot, originally signed to Ardent records, released their critically acclaimed self-titled album in 1995 and scored national airplay for “Moon June Spoon.” While the band continued to tour nationally to support the debut release, Interscope entered into negotiations with Ardent to acquire Spot. Unfortunately, the deal ended up in litigation within a year, and Spot was forced to quietly ride out the remainder of a 5-year contract without support to tour or release additional material.

The Birthday Party - Live 1981-82 [1999]

Didn't like the review on AMG so I'll just post a random review from RYM:
Quote
Well, well, well...

Unless someone can give me another example, this might just be the most sonically extreme album ever produced. I think I'll go through the various components...

Rowland S. Howard (guitar) - Your ears will BLEED. Screeching like a million dying chipmunks and played with ferocity which makes Steve Albini look like a pussy.

Tracy Pew (bass) - Sounds like a huge giant stomping through a desert, each rumble causing parts of the earth to open up.

Mick Harvey/Phil Calvert (drums) - I believe I saw in a live video, that the drums were, in fact, broken. And that's what it sounds like - broken glass being trown from a great height. Because no man could hit with intensity like that, surely.

Nick Cave (vocals) - You know Alan Vega in Frankie Teardrop? You know Iggy Pop in L.A. Blues? You know Black Francis in Debaser? You know every freakin' nu-metal/death metal/hardcore punk band ever? Yeah? Well, add all their screams together and times by 10 and you'd get Nick's screams on this album. I can't really say anymore. The lyrics and so bizarre and weird you won't have a clue what he saying half the time. You'll probably be too terrified to notice.

Basically, if your favourite Nick Cave song is Into My Arms, you'll die when hearing this. I can't think of any album which comes even CLOSE to the UNBELIEVABLE INSANITY of this album.

This renders any discussion of the limits of extreme music pointless.

This is it. This is the one.

Buy it, if you can withstand it. Which you can't, so buy it anyway.
Anyone who likes challenging music should hear this, it's fantastic.

Organisation - Tone Float (Pre Kraftwerk)

Any comments / fans of Kraftwerk? I've got all their albums if anyones interested...

Comments from Head Heritage website: The first LP collaboration between the two visionaries who would go on to found Kraftwerk is a bit like the first Tangerine Dream LP, in that it bears little resemblance to their later electronics-dominated work and is closer to "traditional Krautrock". The Organisation album is basically instrumental, heavily oriented towards improvisation, features lots of hand percussion and shows more jazz and psychedelic influence than anything Kraftwerk would ever do.

Some tunes

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?j0oi1ndgstz
From allmusic:
Quote
Australian indie electronic trio Cut Copy take many of their cues from contemporaries like Air, Daft Punk, and LCD Soundsystem, but with a distinctly pop sensibility that draws on classic AM radio pop singles from the 1970s and '80s, with elements of vintage disco and synth pop that appeal to song-based listeners as well as the club kidz. Cut Copy started in 2001 as a solo project by songwriter, producer, and DJ Dan Whitford, who released the single 1981 and the EP I Thought of Numbers before drafting in other members to fill out his synth and sample-based sound. Bassist and guitarist Tim Hoey and drummer Mitchell Scott debuted on Cut Copy's first full-length album, Bright Like Neon Love, released in the summer of 2004. After several successful singles were spun off the album (including Saturdays, Future, and Going Nowhere), Universal's Island Records imprint picked up the trio's international distribution in 2006. Following an inventive Whitford live DJ mix that was released in 2006 as Fabriclive.29 (including such unexpected delights as Ciccone Youth's noisy deconstruction "Into the Groovey" and Roxy Music's suave "Angel Eyes" alongside the usual Goldfrapp and Soulwax), the band proper returned in early 2007 with the new single Hearts on Fire.

from allmusic, though none of the band members should need an introduction.
Quote
Reversing the usual process by which groups break up and give way to solo careers, the Traveling Wilburys are a group made up of solo stars. The group was organized by former Beatle George Harrison, former Electric Light Orchestra leader Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison, thus representing three generations of rock stars. In 1988, the five (who had known each other for years) came together to record a Harrison B-side single and ended up writing and recording an album on which they shared lead vocals. It turned out to be a way to transcend the high expectations made of any of them as individuals, and a delighted public sent the album to number three, with two singles, "Handle With Care" and "End of the Line" hitting the charts. Unfortunately, Orbison died of a heart attack only a few weeks after the album's release.

Two years later, the remaining quartet released a second album, inexplicably titled Vol. 3. Although it didn't match the success of the first Wilburys album, it was another million-selling hit. Throughout the '90s, there were rumors of another Traveling Wilburys record in the works, but no new albums from the group surfaced. Harrison and Lynne did re-team in 1995, when Lynne produced and reworked two John Lennon demos with the Beatles for their Anthology rarities collection.

I've seen some swipes taken at Knapsack and the evils of emo, but how can you not like a music genre which requires that the only way men can express their emotions is to scream them? I love this band. These albums are 10-11 years old and I think they still sound fresh.

Their 2nd album from 1997: Day Three Of My New Life

Next up is a solo album from 2002 from Neil Halstead of Mojave3 and Slowdive. This album is beautiful; slow and lyrical, like a walk on the beach, as long as it's a cold and foggy beach!

And last, but not least, is Naim Amor. He moved to Tucson, Arizona from France a few years ago, and has worked with the close-knit group of musicians and producers there: Howe Gelb, Joey Burns and Johnny Convertino (Calexico), Tasha Bundy, John Parish, Harvey Moltz, and sometime Tucsonan, Neko Case.

This is Amor's 1st solo album from 2005; it's a mix of French Pop music, desert punk rock, and dissonant sound. He's also got several instrumental albums that are more atmospheric and experimental. He's got a new album out, Sanguine, produced by him and Joey Burns. You can listen to it and other mp3s at http://www.amormusic.com/index.html and also at his Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/naimamor

New guy here. I ran across QC a couple of weeks ago in that April 1st crossover business. Once I plowed through the archive, I popped into the forum to take a look around. This thread is great and I felt like I should contribute. So here are a few albums that aren't here yet, so far as I was able to see. I'm fairly music-dumb, so I'm not sure any of this will be appreciated, but from the pretty cosmopolitan selection posted so far, I figure it won't be completely wasted.

Rilo Kiley - Initial Friend (Second Issue)
Since I haven't even heard of most of what's been posted, this seemed appropriately indie. I guess they're on a major label now, though, so perhaps not.
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?xwjdryzsnjy
Sue Foley, Deborah Coleman, and Roxanne Potvin - Time Bomb
A three-girl blues guitar trio. Not every track is a winner in my opinion, but it's totally worth it for the title track alone.
Code: [Select]
http://www.mediaf!re.com/?xn1nnsodtlv
Splashdown - Blueshift
Electronica, I guess. I'm not really sure what Splashdown qualifies as, but I enjoy it. I can't get enough of Mayan Pilot; it's got this sweet funk groove and I rather like Melissa Kaplan's vocal talents.

Speaking of...
I know this thread isn't for requests, but it would be totally awesome if somebody could reup Mercury from Universal Hall Pass. It was already posted once but seems to be broken now.

Symphonies 1-15. All or nothing. Just under 1 GB. Conducted by Barshai, performed by the West German Radio Symphony Orchestra (Köln)

Quote from: Amazon
A stupendous new recording by Russian conductor Rudolf Barshai, an authority in this repertoire, as he has worked closely together with the composer for a long time, and premiered the 14th symphony.

Great sound from the Köllner Philharmonie, one of the world's best concert halls.

Seeing that they just got namedropped in the pop-punk thread...

Teenage Bottlerocket - Warning Device

Quote
Warning Device is an album strictly for pop-punk purists: not one of these 13 songs breaches the three-minute mark, and strong echoes of the Mr. T Experience, the Dickies, and the Ramones permeate the barely half-hour disc. Actually, the last just a little too much: "In the Basement" is so dopily obvious a rewrite of "I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement" that the legal team for da bruddahs should ask for royalties. Aside from that misstep, however, Warning Device is old-school pop-punk done up right, with equal emphasis on the pop side of the hyphen, as shown in the boyishly lovestruck lyrics of tunes like "Gave You My Heart" and "She's Not the One." Teenage Bottlerocket is in no way out to reinvent the pop-punk wheel, which makes Warning Device an album strictly of interest to the existing cadre of fans of the style, but on the other hand, the complete lack of emo, metal, or other fashionable contemporary touches is exceedingly refreshing.

Bass Communion - I
(steven Wilson Solo)

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?ds9gmz5191y
Quote from: brainwashed
Over an hour of music is divided among four tracks (and a brief intro) that range from 10 to 25 minutes apiece.  Describing this music simply as 'ambient' would be lazy and inaccurate.  Wilson's textures are generated or sampled from 'real' instruments then heavily processed, stretched, looped, etc. to create a unique sound set.  "Drugged" is comprised of pad like atmospheres and long sinewy horn notes (with the occasional subtle lick) which lead to a few reverberated Floydian electric guitar strums and a mildly distorted fuzz out finale.  It's simply gorgeous.  The rest of the album could continue in this vein and I'd be perfectly happy.  But, Wilson opts for variety which turns out to be for the best.  "Sleep Etc" is centered around a long drone note loop that is saturated in bell tones and liquid gurgles.  Very menacing, in a Coil "How to Destroy Angels" manner.  "Orphan Coal" opens up with light percussion (so much for 'ambient'!) then adds processed sound squiggles, drifting textures, female murmurs, unintelligible ghostly background chattering and, later, a deep bass guitar line.  The final track, also entitled "Drugged" curiously enough, is a 25 minute slab of deep and moody classic ambiance.  This one is for the Eno fan in all of us.  The track utilizes a 7 second Robert Fripp guitar sample loop from 1993 (which is in no way recognizable as guitar) for a gradual ebb and flow of pad like textures with slow motion bass throbs and distorted fuzz here and there.  Gorgeous, again.  Altogether this is a very well balanced, beautiful album.  I can easily imagine this music as a soundtrack for planetariums, large aquariums, museums and chill out rooms.  And I mean that as a compliment. .

Blackfield - Blackfield

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?mjspmuybddn
Quote from: sea of tranquility
Blackfield is the project of Porcupine Tree leader Steven Wilson and Israel’s most outspoken counter culture rock musician Aviv Geffen. Together they have put together a very modern sounding recording that meshes melancholy progressive rock with shimmering pop nuances that works nicely on all levels.

Fans of Porcupine Tree's Signify era will especially dig this CD, as Wilson's resonant vocals and dreamy arrangements permeate most of the ten cuts here. Oodles of Mellotron and synths provide much of the musical landscape, with just enough electric and acoustic guitars to add a nice rock flavor to some of the songs, especially on the cut "Open Mind." Geffen, while a household name in Israel, has yet to make an impact in the rest of the world, but that might end now, as his vocal, instrumental, and songwriting prowess is pretty impressive, adding layers of depth to the powerful "Cloudy Now", as well as the quirky "The Hole in Me." His keyboard work is outstanding, as he goes for a huge wall of sound more so than flash-listen to the gigantic waves of Mellotron on the title track, or the majestic piano strains of "Hello" for some great examples. On the latter, Wilson also lends some searing slide guitar that will instantly remind you of David Gilmour circa the Pink Floyd album Meddle.

This is quite a pleasant album, full of warm pop music embelished with moody prog rock atmosphere, which might be a nice change of pace for Porcupine Tree fans who clamor music that is less heavier than the direction that band has been taking the last few years. It will be interesting to see where Snapper Music can take this CD, as there is great potential here for mainstream acceptance in many parts of the world. A very solid and enjoyable release from two very talented musicians who seem to really hit it off together. Recommended!

I.E.M. - 1996-1999

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?jym21g2yi9iRemastered collection of all the IEM music recorded between 1996-99, including the whole of the first album, the Escalator to Christmas 12 inch single and bonus material
Quote from: some dude at amazon

This is the brainchild of Steven Wilson, who doesn't exactly have a direct connection with the likes of Neu! or Can, but has an uncanny talent for absorbing sounds & influences and mixing them into something that comes out sounding like anything but a ripoff. IEM is an outlet for his solo instrumental/experimental stuff; this disc explores the mystical groove sound of those bands I just mentioned with sweet-toned guitars, clockwork drums, worldly percussion, synth, organ and sitar. It may sound like music directed solely at middle-aged record-store owners who thrive on boggling their customers' minds with stuff nobody's ever heard of, but this is really a treat for anyone with an open mind.

As if that wasn't good enough, the disc just got an expanded reissuing this year (I'm putting this review under the older edition because Amazon doesn't seem to have the new one). The added material is two versions of the EP track "An Escalator to Xmas," the regular 10-minute piece and a 14-minute 'expanded mix' that I find much more appealing (probably because it doesn't have any children's voices). In either case it's a great complement to the original album - it's more madly addicting grooves and textures, spiced up with tabla and jungle percussion under the sunny synths & guitars.

Ozric Tentacles - Spice Doubt

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?t0bkgdnlmdr

Porcupine Tree - Signify

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?njlycqdxyyf
Quote from: metal observer
Of course, like many in the underground music scene, I find myself seeking out certain CDs as if they might contain that special musical treasure often hoped for but rarely found. And so it was when I ran across "Signify", a veritable sonic gem from one of England's best kept secrets, PORCUPINE TREE. While perusing a catalogue of rare, tasty progressive music, a phrase of magical portent seemed to leap off the page and into my view: "This is the kind of music PINK FLOYD SHOULD be making now." Enough said.

Nearly fours years after first purchasing and listening to this album, the effect has yet to wear off: this was simply some of the most brilliant, sonically challenging, exploratory music I've ever heard, totally on par with the best of the PINK FLOYD-catalogue, yet traversing strange worlds that even they had never travelled. In fact, "Signify" is not unlike a more futuristic, more experimental, darker and spacier version of "Wish You Were Here", featuring a conceptual, magnetic flow that transports the listener into the dark netherworld of the collective unconscious.

As you've probably guessed, no, this is not a Metal-album, as far as guitar-sonics are concerned. But "Signify" is undeniably "heavy" in the truest sense of the word, combining the imagery of a long-lost humanity seeking refuge in the depths of the sub-conscious mind with some of the most compelling guitar artistry and atmospheric backdrops you're likely to hear in a life time. In fact, it's no mistake that PT founder and brainchild, Steven Wilson, co-produced and performed on OPETH's latest masterwork, "Blackwater Park", acting as some kind of divine, alchemical catalyst, in terms of production, atmosphere and multi-dimensional dynamics.

From the beginning of "Bornlivedie", it becomes apparent that PORCUPINE TREE, like a few other mighty groups, such as OPETH, PINK FLOYD and DEVIL DOLL, have their hearts set on arresting the imagination of the listener and propelling us down some forbidden cascading slip-stream into the realm of hidden reality. Along the way we encounter the cosmic beauty of "Sleep Of No Dreaming" and "Waiting", two of the most compellingly listenable psych-rock songs ever to have crossed these ears. Shortly after, "Every Home Is Wired" unfolds onto the sonic canvas with its stellar acoustic guitar, lysergic chorus and spacey slide guitar accompaniments. "Intermediate Jesus" sounds like a hynogogic waking-dream on acid, and "Light Mass Prayers" emerges with a dark-ambient atmosphere that would be well at home on Cold Meat Industries. And saving the best for last, "Dark Matter" simply defies description, because it captures the mighty PT at their most enigmatically euphoric best, featuring some of the most airy, emotional guitar leads ever recorded, that would probably make even David Gilmour green with envy.

Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag alatt született

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?f5u9cjz9cxp
Quote from: Igloo
Rossz Csillag Alatt Született is the closest Aaron Funk has ever come to being Unplugged. While on vacation in Hungary, Funk experienced a moment of avian displacement and vanished into a metaphysical consideration of life as a pigeon. I don't know if this moment was the impetus for Rossz Csillag Alatt Született or it it was the wealth of local ethnic music poured into his head, but the resulting record is a orchestral collision between Funk's well known drill 'n' bass and a panopoly of decaying folk motifs.

"Öngyilkos Vasárnap," based on a funereal love song by Hungarian composer Reszo Seress, lifts the haunted despair from Billie Holliday's version of the song, drapes a possessed violin across Holliday's exhausted voice like a burial shroud, and sends both out to troll for coins in a cart pulled by a one-legged beggar. "Felbomlasztott Mentökocsi," a brooding piece of groaning tones and gut-plucked notes, indulges a string quartet's penchant for melancholy with its gloomy soundtrack. In "Hajnal," Funk drops a clusterbomb of beats in the middle of the orchestra pit but it's a surgical strike that takes out the brass section as if it were custom-ordered by the strings. The brass section, resurrected by some foul Transylvanian mysticism, provide stabs and flourishes during "Szamár Madár" like they were some channeling Wagner while a cellist bravely attempts a heartfelt solo before getting steamrolled by Funk's percussion and a string section in game pursuit of a runaway soprano.

Rossz Csillag Alatt Született is Funk's most assured release. Even as a track like "Kétsarkú Mozgalom" veers into John Zorn's Naked City territory, we never lose hold of the thread which Funk has used to sew modern breakcore to the back of an Eastern European gypsy minstrel. Highly recommended. Especially for a track like "Szerencsétlen" where you can fool your classical music loving friends with your daring appreciation for a 21st century approach to the cacophony of Stravinsky's Rites of Spring. That is, until the breakbeats bust down the doors of the recital hall and take the conductor hostage; then, it's every instrument for themselves.

Rossz was posted in the last few pages. It's such an amazing album though that good job on the repeat if it means one more person hears it.

Also, Blackfield is fucking amazing and I have most of Porcupine Tree's discography if anyone has any gaps in their collection they'd like me to fill.

Beach House - S/T
Quote from: allmusic
Matching the hypnotic allure of Nico and Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval, Beach House sorceress Victoria Legrand croons "Love you all the time/even though you're not mine" on "Saltwater," the stunning album opener to the band's self-titled debut, and such simple words never sounded so lovely. Joining Legrand is her childhood friend Alex Scally, who delivers spellbinding instrumentation throughout these nine heavy-hearted melodies. It's their sound as a whole that really makes Beach House an interesting listen; Legrand's vocals tread so lightly throughout, making it easy to get lost in the gossamer beauty of the band's work, particularly on "Tokyo Witch" and "Auburn and Ivory." Tightly woven arrangements of organs, percussion, and guitars (which recall the work of Legrand's uncle, famed French composer Michel Legrand) delicately waltz around her haunting presentation, while the golden slumbers of "Apple Orchard" and "Lovelier Girl" offer a sweetly psychedelic sound. The exquisiteness of Beach House's debut album should not go unnoticed -- it's one of the most mystical indie pop surprises to arrive in 2006.

I've got Recordings but it's in 128kbps :\ dunno if you're cool with that. Quality's bearable for me. Let me know, anyway.
I'd be interested in that if you're still offering. Thanks.

I have a friend who loves anything Steven Wilson has ever done, and out of all the stuff he's shown me (Blackfield, PT, Bass Communion, No-Man), I liked Blackfield and No-Man the best.

Queens Of The Stone Age- Queens Of the Stone Age

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?zd3xl1beadf
Quote from: Rolling Stone
On this scorching debut, guitarist-singer Josh Homme – who formerly led Kyuss, a band revered among young stoners – joins with bassist Nick Oliveri and drummer Alfredo Hernandez to create a new turn in the saga of Pacific Northwest hard rock. They've found a vital place between art-metal seriousness and pop pleasure. It begins right away with the trancelike "Regular John," a track that layers Homme's yelping guitar accents over a fuzzy groove. While other metalheads play around with sequencers, Queens of the Stone Age have something a little more heated and classical in mind.

The rest of the album charges on with its compelling contrasts between Homme's papery vocals and the surrounding rampage. Sometimes the songs explore pure heaviness, as on the wall-rattling "Walkin' on the Sidewalks." But more often they thrillingly toy with elements like vocal hooks ("You Would Know") and metal frenzy ("How to Handle a Rope") without giving in to either. Toward the end of the album, on "You Can't Quit Me Baby," the band just jams, Hernandez's drums suddenly airier and sky high in the mix and Homme's otherwise introverted vocals reduced to moans. Minimalist? Yes. Dry? Hardly – here is a sound that sticks to your ears like Memphis in August.

Sorry if it's been posted already.

It's been awhile since I have been here, but I would appreciate any of the Steve Wilson you guys up there are offering.
EVERYTHING!
I only have the physical copies of Signify/Insignificance, The Delirium Years, Deadwing, and Fear of a Blank Planet.

In return I plan on uploading some of Porcupine Tree LIVE @ Mexico City which I borrowed earlier this week.

I used someone else's. If your's is still up, you might have a better quality version. I can't account for the credibility of the one I linked to, aside from it had all the songs I was lacking.

PAGING ONEWHEELWIZZARD TO THIS THREAD, ONEWHEELWIZZARD, THIS THREAD.

I have finally gotten my hands on Colour Haze's latest, Tempel.

Basically, if you liked most of the stuff onewheel's been uploading, you'll love this.  If you loved their self-titled, they do everything they did there here, better.

Why do we like the things we like? What is it about certain bands, books, food, or movies that drives one to claim it as their own? Certainly, we all have our own preferences. For me, it's things that transport my senses to unfamiliar territory. Take Thai food, for example. I vividly remember the first time I had a plate of pad thai with a glass of thai tea.
The flavors were familiar, but somehow, in this combination, they expanded outward and seemed to hit several notes at once. It was sweet and hot, yet peanutty and citrusy. These elements shocked my senses, tasting exciting and lively. The woody tang and coconut sweetness of the tea added further layers of flavor. In a sense, the meal was hypnotic. I suppose it's a trance-inducing quality that always captures my attention and brings something towards the center of my awareness. I can name a number of things that inspire this state. In books, there are the edgeless and symbolic poems of Arthur Rimbaud. Also, the labrintine mountains of words in Borges or James Joyce. Movies like Pi, The Elephant Man, and Memento all have scenes where you are suddenly no longer watching, but thinking the film as it unfolds.
Music is, of course, rife with transcendental expression. Tibetan Buddhist chanting, Tuvan throat singing, Gnawa healing rituals, Aboriginal didgeridoo, and too many more to list can all lift up your head and spin it around. While we can find multiple examples in both avant garde and world music, what's truly remarkable is when a band takes a familiar and accessible idiom, then pushes it into this same luminous zone.
Colour Haze is a band that knows how to bring the trance to their rock. On their fantastic new disk, Tempel, they succeed in creating something both familiar and wonderfully strange. Colour Haze is a three-piece rock band from Germany who have been putting out music for the past five years or so. With each release, they have taken their core sound, a groove-locked, fuzz-driven pulse, into even further dynamic ranges. Of particular note is their mammoth two-disk set, Los Sounds de Krauts. With Tempel, however, they've set themselves a new standard. To that core of sound, they've added mighty dustings of organ ("Mind") along with jazzy time-signatures and chord figures ("Tempel"). These additions make a good thing even better. They've figured out those intricacies of tone that make for a signature sound. The playing is tight and focused, but in particular, it's the singing of Stefan Koglek that stands out. Instead of going either over the top with hysterical screams, or under the bottom with garbled death-growls, he opts for a hushed and intense intoning. Just like that wild bite of spicy pad thai, this style transports the listener to the stars. There's an honesty at work here that just seems right.
These days it can be hard to find something that has a sonic purity or purpose. Groups like SUNNO))), Acid Mother's Temple, and Comets on Fire are some exceptions. It's groups like these that give our ears a good cleansing. Add to that list Colour Haze. This is some kick-ass rock music.
Even better, it's some kick-ass rock music with a mind of its own. Thank goodness Colour Haze have both found and follow their muse.
