All you people saying Marigold is a bitch or "as a nerd she should know how it feels to be made fun of"... It's like we have stoutfiles back.

Seriously, do none of you and your friends tease each other with playful banter? Even if you don't, have you not noticed that this group of people does? It is one of the main comedic themes in the strip as a whole.

To me it seems to indicate Marigold's increased comfort with socialization, especially with this group. She feels secure enough to engage in the type of barbed exchanges the rest of the group does. Also, Marigold recognizes the irony of the situation, given Faye's past conception and comments about her.

Marigold is pretty new at the whole healthy interaction with friends paradigm.

As such, she is bound to make some mistakes. I trust her friends will set her straight.

Either that or Faye will pummel her into oblivion.  :psyduck:

I wonder if I'm the only person slightly nervous about the "HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You fuckers have no idea" post we got from Jeph.
Like he's about to do something absolutely batshit insane to his characters.
Because of us fuckers.

I think it's more that the interpretations here often go way beyond what he has in mind (and may well be wrong anyway!), and have absolutely no effect on him whatever.

Yes; indeed, that's the whole joke. It's what makes it funny. There would be no joke if Marigold's ribbing had come from any other character.

I can see why you'd be taken aback if you didn't see that joke or find it funny.

But as alluded to before, it's a fine line between friendly ribbing and nastiness. Which is why the former is usually reserved for exchange between good friends.

Oh also: I'm more amused than nervous about Jeph's post. But I haven't been as bothered by Marten's behaviour as the people Jeph was alluding to.

I don't think that Marigirl crossed any lines yet. If it were coming from Dora or Marten, Faye would definitely take it in stride (accompanied with a witty retort), and I expect it to be the same with Marigold. Faye can take it as well as dish it out, and this is just payback (at worst) for the jokes Faye has made at Marigold's expense.

One of the cutest Marigold faces ever in panel three, if you ask me.

That's how I took it.  Must admit I hadn't noticed the similarities before the side by side (wait a minute, they both have large chests!).

Indeed.  Something about the raised pinkey, methinks, along with the barely stifled tittering.

That may well be so, of course; but what I really mean is that the actual direction of the comic is not influenced by us.  But we have to remember that this forum is a tiny part of Jeph's fanbase, and that similar things may have been said by many people in emails to him - the difference with the forum is that what we say remains visible, however embarrassing...

A mod once suggested that this forum be cleared of all messages once a day at noon, and have to start fresh and clean.

There was a big clear out three years ago, when the separate forum for the WCDT was merged with the general discussion one.

Would that pull back our post count?

Yes, if the threads are deleted; no, if they are moved to an archive (which could be hidden).

I think Marigold was just trying to tease, just like Faye teases everyone all the time (or at least used to, Angus has tamed her a tad :) ). I think this isn't nearly as big a deal was when Padma broke Faye's glasses. :P

Hey, it's a huge step forward for Marigold: she finally is comfortable enough in a social circle to tease someone a little bit. It's hardly awkward or cruel; it's clearly kidding around; and Marigold definitely knows it's ironic coming from the web-designer, otaku, 65th-level-orc-shaman with the loli anthro-PC.

My guess is that she noticed that a reparo spell has been applied to Faye's glasses. OTOH I am not sure that she noticed Faye's new haircut (or cares).

My wife has (I hope) gotten used to it that I won't notive her new haircut right away. What usually happens is that when wanting to nuzzle her neck, I suddenly notice that it is more accessible/inviting than it was last week.

To be fair, it's been over two weeks real time since Padma broke Faye's glasses and Hanners taped 'em back together.

Of course, it's also been mentioned in this thread five or six times now.  Not everyone reads for detail...

Hanners used SPACE TAPE. It fixes everything.

If Faye wears it long enough, it will pull her eyes into proper focus. And install lasers.

PS: That's a pretty assertive Marten in the example you provided, Skewbrow.

She's probably shocked at the inevitable violence that will now ensue.

(Hopefully it's not her turn to clean up the blood.)

Did someone say something about tape? On glasses? Crazytalk, surely; that'd fog themup no end and I shudder to think what all that glue would do to the coatings...

It's on the frames, and it's because of Padma.

(This also explains what Faye means by her offer of a "matching pair", which would be cryptic without knowing that.)

Where's the sarcasm emoticon when Mr. Rose really needs it?
Don'chu vorry sveetheart, I finds it if I's needs it. :P

(the Jaegerkin emote, however, appears to be entirely absent…)

Differing levels of curse tolerance.  Reading it's one thing, typing it's another.

Saying it's something else again, dammit.

Quoting it is another thing in its entirety.

If you've actually looked through the Strip-by-strip log, I do the same editing for the individual strip blurbs.

Did someone say something about tape? On glasses? Crazytalk, surely; that'd fog them up no end and I shudder to think what all that glue would do to the coatings...
It's on the frames, and it's because of Padma.

Okay I haven't noticed the tape on Faye's glasses at all this week, so today's comic had me confused as fuck xDDD

My thought processes were all like: '...what kind of -- what kind of threat is that? She DOES have a matching pair. They're like...the exact same glasses. What is she talking ab-- is she going to give Marigold her glasses? Is this an allusion to punching her in the eye?? Is that some kind of phrase for punching some--wait why would Marigold say that in the first place, these are the same glasses Faye's had since she met her, yeah they've always been kinda dorky but what makes them Poindexter glasses...is it the hair??!? Is it cos it's short, has she never really seen Faye's glasses before behind her longer hair? -- does the hair maker her look dorkier?!? IS THIS ENGLISH I DON'T UNDERSTAND'

and then I came here because I figured someone could explain it to me, and they did and I THANK YOU

I honestly would be surprised if Faye took real major offense to Marigold's comment because that insult (to me at least) is so lame it's kind of cute. It reminds me of when Marigold made that joke about Dora's webpage making skills, it's so like -- afterschool special kind of insult xD I'd be more offended if she commented on the hair.

Should whoever makes the WCDT every week start with a "Previously on QC:" post to make sure we're all up to speed? Seems like it might be helpful (they do it on soap operas, after all, and the strip's already pretty soap opera-esque).

For comic #2065...

1. The girls (well except Marigold) are looking very colorful for this strip.  I find that amusing for unknown &/or random reasons  .

2. Yes, it was hypocritical for Marigold to say such a thing when she wears the same kind of glasses as Faye.  But I have little problem with it since Marigold is trying to be more forward (aka "character progression") and as such there are going to be faux pas'es (pas'? pax?), mistakes, and proverbial stumbles along the way.  One does not achieve rapier wit and precision zings like Faye or Dora in a few days.

3. [from Jeph's Twitter]: "Also see if you can spot the Nichijou reference."  Saw this shortly after he posted comic #2065 (but was too busy to post here, at the time).  What Nichijou reference is being used?  I have no idea since I have only seen some of the Nichijou anime via YouTube and other similar free-media sites, and am aware of the series and how it has provided inspiration to Jeph.

4. @jwhouk & @Mr Rose...  A bell ringing...?  Oh is it time for afternoon SparkRoast coffee & bisc-

DOOOM!!!

I think this may be more appropriate for our needs:
