The robots are coming!

How long before QC-style humanoid robots become practical in our universe, then?

Find a way to combine her realism and ability of expression with Asimo's impressive abilities to move and interact, and we'd not be far off something you might pass by in the street.

They obviously spent a lot of time on the eyes and surrounding areas (brows, lids).  The mouth can do a few things, but still looks wrong when she's speaking - the musculature of the lips is still too complex, I think.

Can't pucker.  Can only smile, actuators stretching the corners.

Still, quite impressive!

Aaaaah! It's like looking in a mirror! Pod-robot! <running footsteps> <door slams>

It's pretty good. If she were, say, riding on a bus with you, would you pick her out? Her clothes might give the game away though. You can tell that male engineers with no girlfriends chose her wardrobe.

The eyelids give it away, but that is pretty good.

I think that would creep me out more than anything. Never blinking, just always looking ahead, eyes open.....

But she did  blink.  Several times.

I think in some ways that it was even creepier that someone thought to make her blink at what seemed to be random intervals...

What? The womanless nerd stereotype is still at large? Lemme get my pitchfork and torch!

Its just a placeholder wardrobe. What sick freak would dress and artificial "person" in fancy, attractive clothes when still in the testing stages? THAT would be much more creepy. :P
To me, this looks like standart lab clothing for women.

Who said anything about fancy? In my experience, even in the laboratory, women prefer to wear clothes that fit, unlike that blouse. And then there's that pink jacket... The whole outfit looks so "old lady", I think they must have raided a retirement community. Actually that's unfair, I've seen eighty-year olds with more style, buying vegetables at the market!

Now you're going up against old people? Jeez. :-D

Again, to me this looks like something a (-n Asian) woman might wear at work if she didn't care that much about looks, more about comfort and simplicity.
I agree with you that for the illusion to work of course "she" (it) needs to be dressed in much more "normal" clothes than those. But for the development stages this is still better than having "her" (it) run around naked.
(To begin with, I was just a little edgy because of the stereotype you used.)

I think the other part is that she probably isn't quite anatomically correct yet, not to mention there's probably some form of fold in the synthetic skin where they can open her up (Christ that sounds weird). Wearing loose clothing (rather than say, a low cut top) would draw attention away from how uncanny valley the body probably is right now.

Cannot say I am too surprised by this.  In 2010, one of the popular japanese pop-idols was a hologram...

Hatsune Miku: World is Mine

Post Edit Add: Found a subtitled version too, but video is lesser quality as a result, and the doubled subtitles can get in the way...

Hatsune Miku: World is Mine (subbed in jap & eng)
