She hasn't had too much character development lately, which indicates either the space station will reveal something has changed about her, or that she has fully come to terms with her condition and she recognizes both her limitations and yet how independent of her ocd she can be. This is evident especially in today's comic, where she admits she had a serious problem before. I know hannelore will never truly rise above her condition, but I think she can function alongside it.

That's an interesting point. Jeph has been hinting that something big may happen in this arc, and the most logical person for it to happen to is Hannelore.

Hannelore has also been much more assertive lately, which is in stark contrast to how she was in the past. Hannelore usually shied away from conflict and assumed she could resolve anything on her own and that it didn't need to be brought up. Any conflict that happened was by chance and in spite of her great attempts to steer it away from conflict. I don't have many specific examples, but I can remember her scolding Merigold and from then on taking a sort of motherly role for Merigold. That definitely wasn't only for Merigold's benefit, I think Hannelore used Merigold so that she can 1. better understand herself and 2. etch out a place for herself in society. Maybe using is a strong word, but Hannelore has a masked but apparent domineering aspect to her. She asserts her will over the environment (her ocd) and any disorder is treated harshly; Hannelore orders herself by ensuring she's surrounded by an immaculate environment and I think that's one of the key factors between Merigold and Hannelore's relationship.

We've seen that her mother seems to be a major league control freak, to use a loaded term, who's used that to become a very powerful and very ruthless businesswoman. Hannelore seems to have inherited that characteristic in the worst possible way, namely as OCD.

I think on top of that, the interaction with her father has been briefly shown before and, like her mother, it definitely isn't all plain sailing. I think the way Hanners has evolved the way you have pointed out will be shown in relation to her childhood, the environment she grew up in, and specifically her relationship with her father.

The very point that she pleaded with her dad to let her bring Marten & Marigold with to the Station is a point of growth. She probably would have never even thought to ask her dad to do that in the past - even as recently as the Sven/Faye arc.

She's been very open as of late to both "Mar & Mar". She showed her regret to Marten about her dad being too wrapped up in his work; Marigold has essentially shown her how much she has grown, as well as being able to provide her with help in "adjusting to the real world."

There's a reason why she asked these two to come along, and not Faye, or Dora, or Tai, or Sven, or anyone else.

There are those occasions where Hannelore has had flashes of assertiveness, though they were played for drama as being completely unexpected.

Definitely. Hannelore has been changing a lot and Marten has been a big part of it. Now I think Hanners will maybe take control and try to fix and come to terms with some stuff.

As a by-product, I think this change will influence Marten heavily as well.

I always knew there was something wrong with that Kitty.

But anyway, I definitely agree that Hanners will affect Marten, and possibly even Marigold. I mean, it would have been just as easy for Hanners to leave one of them behind in terms of plot, if nothing was going to happen to either of them...

EDIT: Wonder if we'll get to see that photo album? I can't imagine if Hanners' baby pictures/childhood pictures would be funny, cute or sad, or some combination.

All of the above. I'm afraid 'sad' will be overpresented given what happened at her Sweet Sixteen party.

But we shouldn't necessarily apply our standards (in the off chance that we could agree on such a thing) to gauge how sad Hannelore might have been. She has a very fine imagination and can escape to fantasyland and/or find happiness from unexpected places.
