Among the Leaves - Sun Kil Moon

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?a62v5vw0dl455f8
The new Sun Kil Moon album, for anyone who's interested. It's a lot more light-hearted than Kozelek's usual stuff. Most of the songs are just mellow little pieces with acoustic guitar and vocals, so nothing epic like "Salvador Sanchez" is to be found here. It's still a very worthwhile listen if you're a fan of his previous work.

It's okay. I like the album art more than the record. Gave it a fair shot. Better than 99% of what is classified as "country."

There's a lot of good alt-country out there right now.  Like he said, you should try out Austin Lucas if you liked the album.

I've been grabbing music from here for quite a while, and never had the chance to post anything.

This is "Kdo se je zbral?", the 1994 album by Zmelkoow. They're a Slovene rock band. A few years back, I gave relationship advice to some Slovene girl on IRC, and she was really happy how it turned out, and she asked if she could do anything for me, so I said "you got any Slovene music?", so that's how I discovered Zmelkoow.

To quote from Last FM:

Zmelkoow are a cult Slovenian rock (“baroque-folk-jazz” and something in betwen) band from the coastal region. The “core” band consists of Gorazd “Goga” Sedmak (vocals, guitar), Žare Pavletič (bass guitar) and Aleš Koščak (drums, percussions) but they also have supporting team which are: Aleksandra Čermelj (vocal, violine), Eva Brajkovič (vocal) and Anuša Podgornik (synth, vocal, flute). They are known for funny and crazy songs and that despite this, the lyrics have a lot of deep metaphorical meaning.

I don't have a picture, sorry. But they're good.

edit: oops, forgot the album name and year.

First song reminded me of Joyce Manor. You got a skip in your stats, but only because I downloaded it about 15 seconds in.

Excellent work.

Oh man, thanks for listening/enjoying guys! You aren't the first to make a Joyce Manor comparison, and that's awesome, they're a great band.

We're hard at work on getting ready to record some new material. I think that the new stuff is significantly cooler than the older stuff: more complex songwriting, more intense everything, etc. I'll be sure to post it when it's done.

Never heard of Lucero until now, or Cory Branan - can't even remember where I picked up the Ben Nichols album.

Also, is Ben Nichols involved with the Nichols Family Gospel Hour? They're like a country version of GY!BE.

Hey, let's bring back some classics of the older threads!

These guys were from..um..I think Berkeley? I know they were a Bay Area band, at the very least. Only put out one album, and then called it quits.

Yesterday my choir sang its summer concert - on the unremarkable theme, for this year, of music for royal occasions!  It went quite well (though we discovered afterwards that one of the 12 pieces had not been performed at the royal occasion that we thought it had!).  You can listen or download here; I'm singing (2nd) bass.

We ended with Parry's Blest Pair of Sirens, which is in eight parts and a big, big sing for a choir of only two dozen or so - but the audience certainly thought we pulled it off.

P.S.  Do check out the program if you're interested - it's really quite informative (especially on the Parry) - because I wrote it, of course!

You sang some of my favourite pieces there - I particularly like the Rutter, the Purcell, the Durufle and of course the Parry. I've sung a lot of those and some are very hard! It sounds like you enjoyed singing it.

We're currently recording a CD of music by Alan Bullard. I don't think I'll be able to put any of it up on here but if there are any taster snippets anywhere I'll link to them.

Two albums for y'all, both of them absolutely fantastic and serious contenders for AOTY, in my opinion:

America - Dan Deacon

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?5661d11akqmmg9x
^Super energetic electronic/indie/pop music, has some really catchy songs and nice arrangements (favorites are Guilford Avenue Bridge, True Thrush, Lots, and Manifest. Rails is a very interesting/subtle track, too). Better than Bromst.

Ocean Roar - Mount Eerie

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?ct35mcowpuanc9e
^More stuff from Microphones frontman Phil Elverum. This one is closer to Wind's Poem than it is to Clear Moon. Lots of black metal-esque guitar and quiet, searching vocals. The instrumentals on this album are great.

Oneman - Fabriclive 64 (2012) [Fabric]
UK Bass/garage/2-step

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?5aodmhzcb2u79qo

Quote from: XLR8R
As bright as Oneman's torch burns for The Simpsons and the almighty ganja, it blazes even brighter for the distinctly British brand of hybrid house known as UK garage (or 2-step). The genre's trademark bump 'n' flex is all over this Rinse FM DJ's latest mix for the Fabriclive series, which pairs underground anthems with fresh cuts from a new breed of (mostly British) bass wunderkinder. Party-rocking is Oneman's strong suit, and he expertly lays out the cards here, drawing connections between new tracks from Distance, Pearson Sound, and Joy Orbison and the late-'90s/early-'00s cuts that have undoubtedly inspired them.

Jacques Greene - Ready EP (2012) [3024]
house/garage/bass

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/file/o1hm6iiccgzxd06

Quote from: XLR8R
If there was ever any question as to whether Jacques Greene could continue to evolve and innovate after making such a big splash when he first appeared on the scene, his latest EP should go a long way towards putting any lingering doubts to rest. Landing somewhere in between the R&B-soaked burners which propelled his ascent up the bass-music ladder and the more elongated, introspective pieces...which have come along more recently, the Ready EP is a lush, alluring collection of masterful club music.

TNGHT (Hudson Mohawke x Lunice) - TNGHT EP (2012) [Warp/LuckyMe]
hip-hop/electronic

Code: [Select]
http://www.mediafire.com/?mf6o6oc9d3i105y

Quote from: P4K
While their contemporaries experiment with footwork loops, yacht rock, and 1970s prog, TNGHT zero in on rap's fixation on the loud and chaotic...TNGHT may not come from the American rap scene (Lunice is in Montreal, while HudMo's Ross Birchard is based in Glasgow), but their connection to it is clear. Lunice and Birchard have great ears for what's what and who's making it: their engaging and well-curated hour-long mix for Diplo's BBC show ranged from the mush-mouthed grit of Florida's Spaceghostpurrp to Chicago's recent wave of teenage antagonism (Chief Keef, Sasha Go Hard) without showing any signs of dilettantism.  Their self-titled debut EP for Warp and LuckyMe spans 16 minutes of some of the year's most brazen, positively huge hip-hop sounds.

And here's an official link to TNGHT's BBC mix referenced in the quote:

New album from Animal Collective--it's a pretty drastic departure from Merriweather Post Pavilion, but it's not like this is the first time they've totally revamped their sound on a new release. I think it's excellent, but some people might be put off by how unrelenting it is.

Here are a couple things.

John Talabot - ƒin  (First link)

amiina - Puzzle (second link)
didn't impress the general public, but I thought it was really pretty. so...whatever?

EDIT: Sorry, I had linked some outside images instead of hosting them myself. Oops.

Hi guys! I'm one of those lurking types who feeds off this board/this thread in particular. Anyway, I'm currently deriving so much pleasure from this album that I thought I'd better throw it up:

∆ (Alt-j) - An Awesome Wave

Hope that works. I'm useless at describing music, but here's their last.fm, and some samples:

Alt-J sound like a bunch of young pretentious art students making indie music - which is exactly what they are. The album's good though, just a shame their fans seem to be 99% 15-year-old hipsters.

Why does it matter who their other fans are?

It's important when they're all up in my grill at concerts.
