Watched Big Hero 6. Okay movie, except that I saw every plot twist from miles ahead.

My coworker has the falalalala fist bump sound as her text tone and it never fails to make me smile :)

The movie had super dirty jokes though. "prepare your bot" was the worst of them.

Ha! That's mine too! I love it to bits. I might be a smidge more obsessed with Baymax than is acceptable for a grown adult.

I just watched the Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and it was just awful. Like everything about the movie was pretty bad.

Watched The Doghouse (2009).

Anti-misogynist, satirical exploitation flick starring Danny Dyer, Combo from This Is England (a gifted actor whose name I really should learn), Noel Clarke and a bunch of nobodies.

Entertaining as hell, genuinely funny satire, quite scary in places, and very funny in others. Good balance of horror and comedy. Plus, aside from the main plot point, seems to function in the real world and has decent reasoning behind the obvious solutions not being taken.

Much liked it!

Saw the seventh Fast and/or Furious after having only seen the first one. It was pretty good I guess but they ended with a little montage of Vin and Paul throughout the series and it was sad, but perfectly done, with a simple "for Paul" on the screen right before the credits.

Agreed. Very worth the watch still though.

Also saw What We Do In The Shadows and loved it. So funny and absurd.

Finally saw X-men: Days of Future Past. Love X-men movies, always feel bad about myself after watching them since my sympathies are very much with Magneto. If I were a mutant I'd probably side with him over the likes of Charles Xavier.

Oh sure, when you put it _that_ way it sounds bad..... But what about protecting all his mutant brothers and sisters from the oppressors who would kill them.

And as a bonus he'd take out those pretenders the fantastic four, they didn't have to grow up mutants, it just sort of happened to them one day, they never even had to fear sentinels. And it would reveal the truth about Spiderman, bitten by a radioactive spider my ass, spider bites don't suddenly turn you mutant that's just a story he made up to make himself seem special and gain acceptance from Uncle Ben. 'Oh no, I'm not like those mutants, it was all the spider, I swear....'

Remove the threat, expose all the lies, wear that awesome purple helmet....

*cough* Well clearly I'm too evil for the X-men. Never ever give me access to Cerebro.

Is that headcanon you're reeling off or has any of that ever actually been covered in the comics? I would read the shit out of a comic based around even one of those thoughts.

Wait till you get to the part about a couple of mutant wannabees coming to Magneto and demanding to be let into the brotherhood. 'I have red hair, it's a mutation a very groovy mutaton!' Smash cut to the redheads flying through the air and landing in a river where they splash around and complain about how rude Magneto is.

Okay, they try to use the groovy mutation to get into the brotherhood and their bodies land a mile away. Their heads, the part with the  groovy mutation get to stay... on spikes.

Playing with someone else's toys first and foremost followed by the feeling that it's lazy to not make my own characters. It doesn't stop me from having reinterpretative headcanons though...Varys and Tyrion in a Bob Hope road movie...... the musical numbers, oh the musical numbers. And the Pheleni conquest at the end of the Deed of Paksenarrion where he'd use the refusal of a Verrakai demand of a magegild as a pretext for invastion. Or just pretending Mirrorsight never happened in the Green Rider series.

I just watched Street Fighter IV The Animated Movie.

It seems to be the "prequel" to the game (I think).  Its terrible.  Like really bad.  The main story arch is very flimsy version of the DBZ cell saga.  Big powerful dude is trying to suck the ki out of the best fighters around the world to become all powerful.  Ryu has his own small arch about not falling to the dark side of the force but its more mentioned in passing than anything else.  It wraps into the main plot eventually but the main plot is just so wooden.  Ken has his own small arch too. He's become a workaholic and neglects his wife, whose leaving small hints around the house he never has a chance to go back to, that she's preggos.  "You're not the same man anymore" cliche.  Cammy, Chun-Li, Guile, and Sakura make a cameo but are highly underused.  Guile is more or less the "you guys fight, I'll go get help" dude with Cammy and Chun-Li really pushing the spy plot forward, trying to figure out what the big bad is about.  Sakura is just bad comic relief as Ryu's stalker.

All in all it was pretty bad.  The live action youtube series was way better and far more investing (so glad that capcom is giving them a greenlight for a series).

Watched The Hills Have Eyes - surprisingly good. Very slow moving opening before an immediate, terrifying explosion of violence. Questionable use of rape as a plot device, but does a good job of making you root for the victims. However it does the same thing as Wrong Turn which pissed me off, in that the inbred mutant cannibals are for some reason basically superhuman, which makes no sense, because they should be genetically weak as hell.

Started watching the second one, which for some reason made every single central character a complete douchenozzle. There was, therefore, no reason to watch because who cares who wins between the idiot National Guard trainee douchebags and the inbred, mutant cannibals? Also, it failed to grasp one of the really crucial elements of the first one; the build-up and release of tension. It just opened horrifically (a woman giving birth to a mutant rape baby before IMMEDIATELY being murdered and neither her nor her child are ever referenced again) and then continued to be awful throughout. So, so dumb. We gave up after 45 minutes.

I just watched Interstellar and I found it....underwhelming. I dunno, maybe I wasn't watching it as close as I should, but it seemed kind of bland

I also watched Man with the Iron Fists 2, Outland, and the new Robocop
-Man with the Iron Fists 2 probably should not have been made, it lost a lot of the craziness that made the first one so much fun
-Outland was alright, a nice, bleak interpretation of the future. But man so many people made a lot of dumb mistakes in the movie. I did like the way that people exploded when the pressure changed
-The new Robocop was pretty underwhelming too. It felt like a slog to watch, even with Jackie Early Haley and Gary Oldman in it

Outland is a much underrated film IMHO, and one of my favourite SF films overall, but it could be given the alternative title Explosive Decompression: The Movie. And yes, I do know that exposure to vacuum would not do that.

Got advanced passes to Mad Max.  It was not the mindless violence fest I was expecting.  It was, instead, the best of the series so far.  Bravo.

Tomorrow night is Pitch Perfect 2.  I'll report back then.

I just watched the first Mad Max, and I find it weird how far it's come. I don't remember them telling us the world ever really ended, it mostly looks like they live out in the middle of nowhere instead of a post apocalyptic landscape. What's also weird is how the bad guys die, most of them get run off the road, while the main bad guy gets hit by a truck. And they seem fairly tame compared to later entries into the series who often look like a bondage shop was having a fire sale.

Triple feature time

I just watched the Tale of Princess Kaguya and I thought it was pretty good. The animation was amazing, but the story kind of dragged on for awhile. I also watched Nocturna, another animated movie that I've put off for awhile that was really nice, if a little empty. The last film was Transformers: Age of Extinction, and it was just awful. I enjoyed John Goodman's character, but that was it.

Saw Jurassic World on Saturday, lots of fun. Finally saw Gone Girl today and holy shit, what a movie. If you haven't seen it, and haven't read anything about it, see it knowing absolutely nothing.

Watched Face/Off with the lass. It is about four hundred times better than I remember it being.

For those unawares, it features John Travolta playing Nicolas Cage playing John Travolta, and Nicolas Cage playing John Travolta playing Nicolas Cage.

We also watched this bit about thirty times.

Then last night watched Con Air, which is good but not quite as good as I remember, although I still love Steve Buscemi's line about irony.

And we watched a Chilean/American film called Magic Magic that stars Michael Cera and a bunch of unknowns. It sucked a bag of dicks.

Within the past week or so I've seen Spy and Inside Out and enjoyed both.

I wasn't planning on seeing it anyway, but the trailer for Inside Out is one of the worst movie trailers I've ever seen.
