Man of Steel.

Was alright.

Subtract about 33% of your enjoyment and that's how I feel about it.

Watched the 2004 version of The Punisher and followed it up with the Thomas Jane short, Dirty Laundry.

I have to admit that the Punisher is one of my favourite films and it has been for several years.

Something that has always irked me about people's reaction to the film is the complaints that it never felt like a superhero film. Which was the point, the Punisher was not meant to be a superhero film, its a revenge thriller, closer to a western than cowls and masks. You have a man whose family has been killed, he was left for dead. The cops can do nothing to catch his family's killers and he has been betrayed by someone on the inside. This is a man who has nothing left but to punish those who did all this to him.

Oh, and the final vow at the end of the film is really one of my favourite lines in any film.

As for Dirty Laundry, if you like Thomas Jane or Ron Perlman, watch it, its only about 10 minutes.

I'm watching The Stepfather (1987) and I had completely forgotten Terry O' Quinn was the killer. Now I think it's best if this movie is actually a prequel to LOST based on John Locke's younger years.

Watched 'IN THE LINE OF FIRE' yesterday with my significant other.  She'd never seen it.  At the point that Leary puts the gun in his own mouth, she looks at me, "This is a pretty intense movie."

I just laughed.  "You've never seen this?"
"Nope."
"Yeah, it's pretty intense."

This Is The End. If you like Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, that whole crew then yeah, it's good. A lot of improvisation, it seems, and the cameos are nuts. They take a lot of jabs at themselves and each other.

I also saw this one today, and more than any movie I've ever seen I can say this - if you thought the trailer was good, the movie is exactly as good as that.

So I, for one, fucking loved it.

I haven't seen the trailer.

I loved Emma Watson. I heard her role was originally meant to be Mila Kunis but she couldn't do it because of schedule conflicts. I totally see her in that role but I love it so much that another female actor got the chance to be really funny. Especially when it was one that hasn't been in that kind of style comedy before.

Just watched Hesher for the second time. That movie is freaking awesome! Joseph Gordon Levitt is so perfect for that role. I'd recommend it to anyone that appreciates good indie movies or heavy metal music. Also has Natalie Portman!

Zombie Holocaust is basically Cannibal Holocaust. Lots of 'savage' cannibals, white people talking about how uncivilized they are, and even one point where the mad doctor who has created the world's least effective zombies states that implanting a white man's brain into a savage's body will make his greatest creation.

Cannibal Holocaust at least painted the documentary folks as the villains.

Watching Dredd.
And finally, Judge Dredd gets the film he deserves, not that shite by Sylvester Stallone.
I know a lot of people don't think much of him, but Karl Urban is actually pretty good actor, who does pick up on the (extremely) tough but fair nature that Dredd has.
Now I'm just hoping they can get a sequel. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm really happy they had the balls to stick with Anderson as a psionic. When they first announced her I was afraid they were going to leave that out since it's one of the more silly aspects of the setting. It was such a damn good Dredd movie.

Now we just need a movie of the Dark Judges story arch.

You do realise of course they will have to have Dredd saying "Gaze into the fist of Dredd". Which would pretty much be perfect.

So some of the guys at the office bug me to see transformers 3 because I am a fan of the old stuff.  I finally sat down and watched it.  My supervisor said it is the best action movie ever made.  He gives it 5/5.  Honestly I give it a 3.5.  If they took out all the Sam stuff in the first two hours (which was excruciating to sit through! like forks in the optics bad!) then perhaps a solid 4 or 4.5.  This is barring any little nerd stuff too (my eyes?! should be my optics!).  A lot of people didnt like the blonde, I thought she was fine and served her purpose.  The only gripe with her I had was how did she know who megatron was? Thats really a problem with writers than an actress's abilities.  Was it an oscar winning performance by her? no but again i thought she was okay and served her purpose. Could megan fox had done a better/worse job? nope. Other than that if they did a strictly war for cybertron movie then I think I would have enjoyed it better.  Hell in the first few minutes you could see the war for cybertron and I was like "yeah we need some of this!" The humans and the US military porn was so palpable I could taste it with every fiber of my being. Too many 'Murica moments.  There is more I could say but I wont.  I need to get to bed.

again I give it a 3.5/5

Oooo, this is some great news for horror fans.

Original Print of The Wicker Man Has Been Found

Quote
Following a public search for the original film materials relating to Robin Hardy’s horror classic The Wicker Man, Studiocanal UK and director Robin Hardy have made an announcement about what has been found via the hunt’s Facebook page. The announcement includes news that an original print of the film has been found.

“Over the years, the fate of The Wicker Man has been the subject of much discussion amongst the fans,” says Studiocanal’s General Manager UK Home Entertainment John Rodden, “We set up the Facebook page not only to act as a hub for information in the search, but also in order to give fans the chance to discuss their love for The Wicker man, and to expound on some of the wilder myths and legends surrounding the film. The response has been amazing, and we’re so grateful to all the people who have taken the time to join the conversation. We hope they will be pleased with what we’ve found.”

2013 marks the 40th anniversary of the The Wicker Man’s original release. In celebration of this and as part of their continuing project to both preserve and showcase classic British cinema, Studiocanal intends to restore and release the most complete version of the film possible.

The new version of the film will be released in selected cinemas on 27 September, and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on 14 October.

Below you can see Robin Hardy talking about the search for the original materials.

Just watched the Evil Dead remake. I have some conflicted feels about this movie, but I think it was quite good for the most part.

First, I wasn't upset by the idea of them remaking this, but it was going to be tough considering the modern horror landscape. A big part of the love for the Evil Dead movies was the subversion of horror tropes and the quality of mockery that was applied while not actually sacrificing the level of horror. They instead went for a more straight faced style of horror which was well done, and i suspect a wise idea considering what ruins most remakes is that they seem pointless. There's usually little to nothing changed and its just a clearer picture with worse actors. In this case, it at least set itself apart a bit by taking it's own interpretation and running with it, not even bothering to compete with the same kind of quality of the original. I also greatly appreciated that 99% of the special fx were practical fx.

However, it still has a lot of the problems that bother me about the horror genre, my absolute favorite genre I might add, namely issues with how it portrays women and what happens to them. While the character of Eric was practically a running gag with how often he got stabbed with various objects, there is still that uncomfortable difference in how the violence is applied and presented to the characters dependent on their gender. The most obvious case being the return of the rape tree.

I still can't quite believe they brought back the rape tree.

Well, I can believe it, and the fact that it was applauded by the incredibly creepy fan base, but there's no fucking excuse for it. Sam Raimi took it out of Evil Dead 2 because he grew the fuck up, it should have stayed out. It was a detail that honestly made me enjoy the movie less than I could have.

Overall though, it is a good horror film, but it's flawed in ways that mostly don't have anything to do with the level of talent. It's almost entirely due to the fact that some of these tropes involving women still exist in 2013.

I liked the original series for many of the reasons you mention. It took tropes and conventions and turned them on their head while someone got looked in the cellar and did a creepy Linda Blair impression.
And then the sequels took it even further (If anyone thinks Army of Darkness is a terrible film, I will judge you now and forever).
I will not be watching the remake. I will steer clear of it like Ash Williams' demonically possessed right hand. Why? Because I am sick of remakes that miss the point of the originals and go the opposite way. As well that, no one nowadays seems to know when to let a good series rest. And it always means the new film sucks.
Even worse is that Raimi hinted that the seventh film will merge Ash's and Mia's respective storylines.
I give up.

I think the Evil Dead remake is what Raimi would have made the first time if he had the money and resources. The first Evil Dead was campy because of its budget and the time period it was made and Raimi ran with it. I'm glad he did, I love 2 and Army of Darkness, they are great and funny films. The first film though was intended as a straight horror. The remake seems to take the most from it and is also intended as a straight horror.
Actually here's what I said when I saw it in the cinema.
Saw the new Evil Dead. Someone on Twitter, can't remember who, summed it up pretty well: "Well, that sure was Evil Dead."

Was entertaining. Go as far as to say a remake/reboot done right.

Yeah, I'm sticking with that opinion.

Also I just came back from Pacific Rim. Loved it. Big, action spectacle film that should raise the bar for any that think it is okay to have sub-par acting, dialogue, story, etc because, "It's action so just turn your brain off to watch it." It's even full if tropes and cliches but they're used so well. Loved it.

I actually agree with your original statement. It's a well done reboot, it's mainly the issues about the rape tree and violence portrayal for the genders that lessened my enjoyment. Essentially, I really wish my genre would grow up a bit. This is stuff I'm a lot less lenient about for more modern horror films.

Edit: I really think the best way to describe the original The Evil Dead is that it was a happy accident.

Just watched Chan-wook Park's Stoker. I really really liked it, but it's reminded me of a rather irritating thing that the industry and movie goers do. It's a goddamn horror movie, just because it's not a creature feature or slasher doesn't magically turn it into a Drama. Label it's genre(s) correctly.

The more I think about it the less I like it, so I'm going to stop thinking about the movie and remember the first ⅔-ľ was quite enjoyable.

The Imposter.

At first, I was just slightly interested in this, and the flaws in the system back in the 90's were insane, as far as background checks, security, and identity theft...

But at the conclusion...

That was goddamned chilling.

took the family to go see PLANES 3D.
not bad. B- at best.
but not up to Pixar's usual Fantasicality.  Felt like Pixar's 'B' team did this movie.
that, or it was meant to be a Direct 2 DVD release in the first place.
Movie feels like an outline with very little meat.  And I can name 5 different spots where the usual Pixar hyper-detail, just WASNT.
PLANES is a 90 minute movie: it could easily be a 120-140 minute raucous romp of a movie.
If you don't mind spending $10 each on the kiddies, it's OK.
Otherwise, wait til it comes out on RedBox or NetFlix.

The reason why it's B- is because it's not a Pixar film; DisneyToons Studio took care of this one. Seems a fairly clever idea to get some fluff related to their major franchises though.

A.I., by Spielberg.

Everything that's ever been wrong with a Spielberg movie, crammed into one film.
