Finally watched Evil Dead 2. It's inventive, genuinely unpredictable and just kinda awesome. Unlike the first one, which sucks.

Interesting, I've never seen any of them, but I refuse to watch sequels without watching the original.

The second one is not a storyline progression. You can watch it independently and it will make as much sense.

Word of god says Evil Dead 2 is a sequel. They couldn't get the rights to use footage from the original so they had to reshoot it. Also my Partner has a much more simple argument which is, "It's a sequel because it has "two" in the title."
Although you can still easily watch and follow it without seeing the original, although I like the original so I would recommend watching it. It helps to remember it was intended as straight, but budget and its era made for camp.

Wait, that's it? There's nothing in the movie itself to link it back to the first one? Because word of god means nothing to me.

"Word of god" refers to what the creator says. They all are related in film, the start of the sequels quickly recap the ending of the one before it.

Also a sequel to Army of Darkness is coming out called Army of Darkness 2 so we're ending up with a Rambo/First Blood title situation.

I'm aware of this, and I stand by my earlier statement. And interesting, I'll probably watch all three just to watch them even if I don't need to.

A little ambivalent tbh... I disliked it the first time around and kinda liked it the second time around when I knew what I had to actively ignore in order to enjoy the movie. I felt like the first movie was very uneven.

I always get The Illusionist and The Prestige confused.  As it turns out I have seen The Prestige and just sat down with my roomate and his girlfriend and watched The Illusionist. I more or less guessed what was going to happen and I was right, but I still enjoyed it.  Was a great movie.  Paul Giamatti was great in this movie!  Better than Jessica Beil and Edward Norton IMHO.

Ever since I saw him on a billboard next to Vince Vaughn for some movie they were both in I have never been able to not conflate the two.

Also, what were people's takes on Now You See Me, since we're talking about magicians movies?

I really enjoyed Now You See Me up until the delivery of the final act.

I kind of wished we'd spent more time with the actual troupe of magicians as well, but I suppose then the illusion and mystery behind the "how'd they do it?" would have been lost.

The fight inside the apartment when Franco is burning the documents was awesome though.

I enjoyed it overall. Speaking of Vince Vaughn, I saw the first hour of Delivery Man as a sneak preview a few days ago. I say the first hour because my friend and I left an hour in. Considering I have never ever done that, I think it's safe to say it is the worst movie I have ever watched in the cinema. Just...wow. Bad. Really, really bad. I kind of want to know how it ends so I might take a peak when it's out on DVD out of morbid curiosity, but...holy shit, what a trainwreck of a movie.

Kindergarten Cop was on TV this weekend. Love that movie. Also, for a supposed kids' movie, it is HILARIOUSLY dark in places, especially at the start.

Saw Ender's Game last night! Don't regret going even though the movie def. has its weaknesses both as a movie and as an adaptation. I mostly liked the things that came after they went to the other planet. Of the actors, I mostly enjoyed Kingsley, but mostly because I like everything he does. Ford as Graff was kinda annoying for most of the movie. Anderson, and many of the other characters, were very one-dimensional. I was esp. disappointed by Bean, even though I realise the ages of the actors must come with some compromises wrt the ability to portray superintelligent kids who've been through some shit. I wasn't too pleased with Petra. Bonzo was all right I guess :o

Still, worth seeing.

My fiancee and I have a debate often as to which Cornetto film is Simon Pegg's greatest contribution to humanity. She says 'Hot Fuzz' and I say 'Shaun of the Dead'. I pissed her off recently by saying his greatest contribution was 'Star Trek Into Darkness'. She threatened to call the wedding off.

I prefer Hot Fuzz of the three. I had the plot twist of The World's End ruined by an extensive movie trailer before I saw it, which I was really annoyed with. Okay sure, it happens fairly early on and it probably can't really be called a proper 'plot twist' for that reason, but it would still have been so much better if I didn't know what the movie was about to begin with!

Me and my friend finally got around watching The Wolverine, now that it came out on homevideo (not paying to watch the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine..). Despite the horrible predecessor, I had some mild hopes for the film, considering the ok reviews. Gotta say tho, despite being better than the last one, it's stilla big mess. The plot was messy, the love affair was weird and unnatural and the whole setting was so stereotypically Japanese it was almost offensive..

Just watched Monsters University. SO MANY CALLBACKS. And shout-outs, lots of them too. I might make a list.

Did anyone else think that Hardscrabble was very, very much like Prof. Stromwell from Legally Blonde?

Saw Gravity a couple days ago, was a really good watch. Genuinely one of the most tense and scary films I've seen. Sandra Bullock was great.

Watched 21 Jump Street again last night. Still one of my favourite comedies, with the drug-taking scene one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen in my life.

...And yes, that does apply to all the times I saw it when I wasn't already high.

Indeed, that is probably the best bit in the movie for me outside of the big cameo(s).

The Dyatlov Pass Incident

I'm not really sure why everyone keeps thinking, "I'm gonna make the next 'Blair Witch', but I can do it sooooo much fucking better."

I was not very impressed.

Watched Army of Darkness last night. It's fun, inventive and entertaining, just like the second one, but the second one's a lot better.

I watched most of Shawshank Redemption last night and I don't believe I have never seen anything prior to Tim Robbins arriving at Shawshank penitentiary... to this day I am not sure if they actually showed the death of his wife or the trial that must have followed...

Yeah, the trial's in the beginning. Acquire the movie through the method of your choice and WATCH THE WHOLE THING. It's one of the best movies ever. Or just watch the beginning if you want, but I can't imagine you'd want to stop.

I appreciate that. I've seen it probably a dozen times before, but I'll see that its on and change the channel and invariably its at least already at Tim on the bus riding up to the prison.
It doesn't appear to be available for stream on Netflix... hell, I know its worth owning, maybe I'll just bite the bullet.
