You can rent it from Amazon for $2, or buy the DVD for $5 from the same place (if you insist on not breaking the law, that is).

Catching Fire. I liked it, lived up to the book (which was my favorite of the series), and the changes it made from the book all actually improved it.

Honestly, I have pretty high hopes for Mockingjay, I wonder who they'll cast for Coin.

I rewatched “A Few Good Men.”  This time I couldn’t help but notice that the ground was covered with leaves (with trees still green) during the silent drill scene, but no leaves were on the ground two scenes later when Tom Cruise is playing softball.  And now you’ll never be able to not notice that.

I also rewatched “Along in the Wilderness” because apparently it’s time for another PBS pledge drive, and they know it’s impossible for suburban white guys to look away from that.

I only saw A Few Good Men a few years ago, but it is one of the films that made me realise that a celebrity may be a weirdo (not an asshole, a weirdo) but that doesn't mean their work isn't top notch. Cruise is oozing with charisma and magnetism in that film, he MAKES that film. Everyone else in it is good, but if you took Cruise out of it the picture would be far poorer.

Well yeah, Cruise has been a consistently solid or better actor for a couple decades now. (If you liked AFGM I'd recommend him in The Firm)

I might see it at some point, but I'm still annoyed that they turned World War Z into a generic zombie movie. WWZ would work much better as a TV show, or even a web series, with one interview per episode.

I hadn't thought of that, but yeah it really would be the ideal format.  I enjoyed the movie immensely, to be honest, but I would watch the shit out of that tv series, with the

Thor: Dark World.

It could be used as an aid to meditation, in that while you're watching it any attempt to exercise your rational mind causes pain.

Think of it as a slideshow of fantasy and sf art, and it's a memorable treat.

Just saw Frozen tonight.  It was awesome!  Warning it is a musical!  I honestly groaned at only one song but it later became kind of a fucked up song and I enjoyed it.  The whole thing was worth watching!  I saw it in 2D so couldn't say if it was 3D but props for Disney putting a mickey mouse short in the beginning pre-movie.  It was surprisingly entertaining!

The Purge. That film did not really need a message, especially one so heavy-handed I couldn't help but laugh a bunch of times. I kinda liked it but it needs to be toned down.

Saw Sucker Punch. I think it's underrated.

I can see the sexism perspective, although I think it's no worse than many films with better reputations - but the film is incredibly stylised and I think that style is amazing.

The art design is jaw-dropping, the complete lack of giving a fuck about logic and just having its own internal, impossible logic instead is admirable in some ways.

That and it's just basically a series of absolutely jaw-dropping music videos/computer game trailers that make me think I WANNA PLAY THAT FUCKIN' GAME, MAN.

Now I have a hankering for Bioshock...

My issue with Suckerpunch is that it came across as pretentious as hell to me. The whole time I feel like it's going, "We know what we're showing you is sexist but you're the sexist one for watching it because clearly you only came to see this film for the tits. Us providing the tits doesn't make us the sexist ones at all because we're vaguely aware of what we think we're trying to do."

It's one of the few things that counts as a rage button for me, but that's partially because people have brought it up to me just to piss me off, so I get pissed off they're trying to piss me off and that's all associated with my dislike of it too now.

I think that's more the fans who use that to justify the movie. To me, the movie itself is just, well...a mess.

I think the whole idea of Sucker Punch is a big slap in the face to the stereotypically sexist nerd culture, wanting to see hot chicks and crazy action. One might call it a sucker punch. It's just that the whole movie is pretty convoluted and badly put together, so the point sort of gets lost in transition. MovieBob (of The Escapist) did an interesting video about it.

because of one of the adverts before "Frozen," I watched Paranorman today (its been sitting on my netflix account for awhile).  It was a pretty good movie.  Good twist on zombies, ghosts, and witches.  Ending was heavy.

I finally saw The Searchers.

Once again John Ford has managed to blow my mind.  I wouldn’t have expected a John Wayne western to present belligerent factions (and their motivation) as two sides of the same coin.

Ethan Edwards presents a type of character I’ve never seen before:  the educated bigot.  Instead of hating out of ignorance, Ethan studies his adversaries and hates them none the less.

Watched Now You See Me today. Enjoyably, genuinely decent opening half hour/45 minutes, before it goes completely off the rails and becomes enjoyable popcorn bullshit.

It starts with this group of magicians apparently robbing a bank, before another character explains how they did it. This is interesting, implying they would spend the rest of the movie pulling such tricks and then having them explained. Instead the film suddenly decides to just go 'lol magic' and lets them get away with anything, however ridiculous, without at all going into how they actually did it, despite at no point making any implication that any magic was real in this world. Ocean's Eleven had bullshit explanations, but at least it had explanations.

So, I watched Getaway today, and I went in completely blind...  that is, I knew literally nothing about before I turned it on, except the cover art.  The second I recognized the female lead I groaned, and then she

and I nearly turned it off.  Then I thought of something and I started watching with a different perspective.  I started looking at it as though it were actually a videogame instead of a movie and the whole goddamned thing started making sense.  After that, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I saw the original once in theaters, so...I honestly don't know. I guess more of the same, it was fun for the most part, but there was at least one scene* that just made me really uncomfortable.

I just watched Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone. It gets a lot of hate, but I think it's one of those "so cheesy it's kind of good" movies.

Rob Schneider's character is annoying as fuck though.

I had somehow never seen "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men".

Professional performances, formulaic script, flashy effects, better characterization than the first Abrams movie.

I just watched the first episode of the Turbo Netflix series and I enjoyed it. I never saw the movie, it looks really bad, but the cartoon is by the people that did Motorcity and so far it's pretty good. White Shadow is the new Texas

Just saw Anchorman 2. A little long, but the

more than made up for it.

Yes!

For those who have had Anchorman quotes thrown at them in class, work, a bar, a family dinner, or casual conversation, it is everything you'd want in a sequel to the original. Not quite Anchorman Again, but well worth a watch. For me, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd own this film, but Ferrell definitely has his moments.

Just saw 47 ronin tonight.  Wasn't bad.  Enjoyed most of it.

Just saw Frances Ha. Not really sure how to describe it. I would recommend it, though.

Computer Chess. What a weird fucking movie. I kind of loved it. Both it and Frances Ha are streaming on Netflix btw.

Saw Inside Llewyn Davis the other day. I liked it, but the Coens have done far better.
