I just watched Zombie Strippers, and it's as awful as it sounds

No, just awful all around. Everyone in the movie is awful and at the end they introduce new characters that are awful and the film just ends. The bad guy gets his comeuppance, but he's introduced in the last few minutes of the movie, like, "Yes, it was me all along!!" even though they never introduced him. The only good part of the movie is the make up effects

Is it at least the entertaining kind of awful or just plain awful?

Just plain awful. I wanted to like it because Robert Englund played the strip club owner, but even he wasn't that good.

It is, and yet, I laughed harder than I have in a long time when I watched it.

Went to see Mockingjay last night. The weakest of the three so far but not by too much. Clearly lining up some stuff for the grand finale. Good to see it on the big screen as the DoP is a bit fixated on depth of field as a device and it may not work as well on a TV.

The book was the weakest of the three, but from what I remember it seemed best suited to be a movie out of the three books. I haven't looked into the movies at all, so this is just conjecture, but I have a feeling most of part 1 will take place in District 13. I did totally call Julianne Moore as Coin before they cast her, but to be fair who else could they have cast?

I just watched Batman Returns cause it finally came to Netflix, and I still love it. It's still as campy as I remember while still being really good. I especially love Danny DeVito's performance

Kate Leth released this recently as well

I've never seen it. Just Burton's first and Nolan's 3. Of course, the best Batman is Kevin Conroy.

Conroy is the best Batman but I think the best Bruce Wayne is Keaton.

The first Batman I like a lot, despite its occasional weirdness. But Batman Returns... as that cartoon indicated, but putting it across as a positive rather than what I consider to be a negative, is not a Batman movie. He barely shows up in it. He straight up murders motherfuckers.

Anyway.

I recently watched two Adam Sandler movies.

First was Don't Mess With The Zohan, which even based on the poster and concept seemed terrible and... was actually a solid three out of five. It's goofy, it knows how dumb it is, has some genuinely quite amusing satire in it and is basically surprisingly entertaining.

Having expected Zohan to suck and being reliably informed by almost everyone ever that Sandler's early stuff was his best stuff, we put on Billy Madison immediately afterwards.

It was so wretched that we gave up maybe 45 minutes in. That film fucking. SUCKED.

Batman Returns is one of my childhood movies. I think it was my first exposure to Christopher Walken so it will always have that.

Watched Mulan last night. I never actually saw it before and I loved it so much.

Walken is great in most things but his character is completely unnecessary. Batman has one of the richest rogues' galleries in comic history, why does he need a generic businessman invented for a script?

Mulan, on the other hand, is fucking magnificent. The animation is great, the jokes almost all hit and the songs are fucking glorious.

I wish I watched it ages ago. It's been a while since a film made me physically cringe in a good way. Ming-Na Wen is amazing.

Actually gasped at that line. Between the dark moments and when Mulan is bathing in the lake and the men show up and Mushu says, "I know they're bound to notice a couple things." That film has a lot of adult moments in it.

I love me some Disney...but I have never seen a Ghibli movie other than the one with the goldfish girl.  I was unimpressed.  I have heard the others are way better than the goldfish-girl one but I have yet to get around to them.

Well, "Grave of the Fireflies" is something that one can't watch the first 10 minutes of without crying, but it's a good film.  "Tonari no Totoro", "Nausicäa", "Mononoke Hime" and "Whisper of the Heart" are all classics.  And both "Spirited Away", and "Howl's Moving Castle" are brilliant as well.  Ponyo was actually one of their weaker films IMO, although I did rather like it.

Ones that include breasts as a plot point, directly reference penises, mass violent killings, murder for the sake of cruelty and imply child death at best or child rape at worst? Nope.

That song, and the training montage that goes along is great!

I haven't watched any of those 90's Disney classics in over a decade.. Maybe I should add that to the growing list of films and TV series I totally need to watch some time, but probably never will get around to.

Ponyo was great, just more of a purely children's movie than most of their other work. I'd rank Spirited Away & Mononoke as their best films, easily! :D

I'll take "Whisper of the Heart" as their best, followed by the others I mentioned as well as "Laputa".  It just to seem so much more like I wish how life could work out in a more ideal world.  Where people could find their dreams taking different paths, and whatnot.

Just watched Guardians of the Galaxy, and Lucy...

Guardians was just so much fun.  I was not a reader of the comics, but I knew loosely of the characters, and of course I definitely read the Infinity Gauntlet stuff.  I really enjoyed that movie, and Rocket is as awesome as I hoped.

Lucy...   I went in knowing what was up, and I am well aware of the stupidity of the whole 10% of our cerebral capacity statements.  Even still, I hoped for more from this one.  It was entertaining, so I don't hate myself for watching it for an hour and a half, but I definitely could have done something else with that time.  Now, I'm off to go watch the new TMNT (from Michael Bay, no less).

Interstellar.

Could have been great and the wreckage that made it to the screen was still spectacular. I may be jaundiced by two mistakes the theater made. They turned up the sound system too loud, and they turned it on in the first place.

I haven't seen the trailer, but most of it isn't sad. Most of it's quite enjoyable. Also wait, I thought she was your fiancee now.

She is, we just keep forgetting that part and keep referring to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend

My friends got married and still do it.

Did anyone watch horrible bosses 2 yet? I know it looks pretty stupid, but I like Charlie Day and Jason Bateman and sometimes you just wanna watch stuff that doesn't make you think.

Just saw Horrible Bosses 2. It was...ok, I guess? I was never convinced that this movie had a reason for existing, though. I get that's usually the case for sequels, but...still.
Just rewatch Horrible Bosses, this is the type of sequel that goes "hey, remember that joke you liked the first time? WASN'T IT HILARIOUS? HERE IT IS AGAIN LOOK AT IT."

Albeit not in creative terms, I prefer that to The Hangover 2, which goes 'hey, remember the first movie? Here it is again only way, way more mean-spirited and unpleasant!'
