Watched The Hills Have Eyes - surprisingly good. Very slow moving opening before an immediate, terrifying explosion of violence. Questionable use of rape as a plot device, but does a good job of making you root for the victims. However it does the same thing as Wrong Turn which pissed me off, in that the inbred mutant cannibals are for some reason basically superhuman, which makes no sense, because they should be genetically weak as hell.
Started watching the second one, which for some reason made every single central character a complete douchenozzle. There was, therefore, no reason to watch because who cares who wins between the idiot National Guard trainee douchebags and the inbred, mutant cannibals? Also, it failed to grasp one of the really crucial elements of the first one; the build-up and release of tension. It just opened horrifically (a woman giving birth to a mutant rape baby before IMMEDIATELY being murdered and neither her nor her child are ever referenced again) and then continued to be awful throughout. So, so dumb. We gave up after 45 minutes.
