In the spirit of current global events, I found myself looking for this little gem to cheer me up:

Mostly just to Bright Phoebus and to this year releases (Brand New, Broken Social Scene, Spoon) these days.

I tried to listen to the new Arcade Fire's album but it is so horrible it is unlistenable.

Kesha's new album is fantastic. I love that it's got multiple genres but mainly this vintage feel, going from country to jazzy to ballad mixed with modern. Dang it's good.

Given that it's sp00ky month, and the state of the "what are you reading?" thread, this is pretty much obligatory.

Imagine Dragons - Believer

Some of you may have seen my post down in RELATE about how I've been feeling recently. The beginning of this week in particular was awful for a couple of reasons, but I think that while I'm not exactly in the clear, I think I'm on the way out of it. I posted this version rather than the one without it because 2:50-3:00 did (ha!) hit me some. It makes me want to get out there and do *something* rather than just sit around all day in front of a screen. It certainly got me to text a friend and ask if they wanted to play badminton tomorrow (they did). Or possibly it just makes me want to hit things.

I found out today that it's a somewhat rare album. How about that.

New NSP and TWRP video.  I saw them at the Fillmore in Silverspring MD a year ago and the show was amazing.  They got to play their own songs as well as songs from their colab-cover album (showcasing songs that inspired them to pursue music).  Not bad for a bunch of people who realized their music dreams in their mid 30s.

Orgy for One by Ninja Sex Party.  Apparently Kenneth Harris did the guitar solo.

I put it in a spoiler since it may not be safe for work.

I just came back from by far the best concert experience I've ever had. Godspeed You! Black Emperor in Frankfurt.

Had to do a two hour car journey there, but it was so worth it. Their music is incredible on vinyl, but live it's a whole different experience. Seeing this group of 10 people who just seem to do their own thing, sliding over the guitar strings with screwdriver shafts, or the double bass player bowing a cymbal, but resulting in an incredible piece of music, in which even the (intentionally) unpleasant music is pleasant. And the projectionist (who is a full member of the band) did some incredible work. He has a huge number of short film tape loops, which he displays on four projectors, some of which only project on one half of the stage, enabling him to perform incredible visual effects, using just celluloid loops.

It was a fantastic experience, the only downside of which is that now I wouldn't want to miss another concert in my region.

This was my second attempt at seeing them, the first being when I visited Masterpiece, where unfortunately I left my ticket at home. I finally saw them!

Us and Them? I don't think I know that album. But I quit following them after A Tragic Lapse of Judgment or whatever that record was called.

The album is called Us and Them, and the songs are from Dark Side of the Moon.

I'm now imagining Momentary Lapse of Reason with those new lyrics. It kind of works.

I've probably spoiled both of your elaborate jokes, but eh. I can never tell.

Steady Tiger!  :)

I think Mort either meant they played sections of the melody which makes up the song "Us and Them" (unlikely)
Or he just brain-farted "Wish you were here" (more likely)

Sorry about that... yes, I know you were referring to Pink Floyd's "momentary lapse of reason," but I thought it would be interesting/amusing if there were some analogous thing from the London Philharmonic, and fumbling the title of the Pink Floyd work gave that hypothetical a plausible title, so I went that direction thinking that others might also find it interesting or amusing or have the same kind of fun I did trying to imagine it.

Sigh. Once I have to explain a joke, it's not funny any more.

Anyway, Symphonic Pink Floyd is most definitely not a joke, it's a very good interpretation of that music.  At least, IMO.  I know that "good" is one of those words that's only defined relative to the speaker.  But I do recommend it.

Just so you know, I didn't "fumble" the title. A Tragic Lapse of Judgment is just what I call that hacked-out waste of vinyl. That was when I stopped following Floyd, particularly after watching them sleepwalk through the supporting tour.

Nothing else says "Worship your emperor!" quite like Abbé Roze's " Vivat, vivat in aeternum" at full blast!

In fact, the whole coronation march is amazing IMHO.
