Dragonforce is awesome. Hilariously over the top and awesome.
Also, those guys have some serious guitar playing skills.

You're missing the point of DragonForce, which is:
Hilariously over the top and awesome.
Exactly. Also...There needs to be a pyrotechnics emote. * * * * * 8) Y 8) E 8) A 8) H 8) * * * * *

Just listen to this, it's absolutely ridiculous and the lyrics are beyond stupid yet it's still fun.

I don't normally like to describe things like this, since it's been co-opted by lame nerds who love stupid Folk-Metal, but here goes:

This song legit makes me want to grow my already-fairly-impressive beard longer, build a jet-powered Viking Longboat out of the bones of my enemies, grab a big-ass axe in each hand and go fuck up Europe in the name of Odin the Allfather:

I've been listening to Coil's The Ape of Naples on repeat since last night. Currently on Tattooed Man.

I can hear a lot of Tom Waits influence in this album, I really can. That song I linked sounds like it could be a cover of a song from Swordfishtrombones.

That Tattooed Man made me think about Koop Island Blues

But today I've been listening to Justice's 2011 album Audio, Video, Disco I love New Lands the most.

I just finished watching Steven Wilson's Get All You Deserve live DVD. The video above is part of that.

I really haven't listened to anything but Steven Wilson for about 3 days now...

Sakura Nagashi by Utada Hikaru.

The sung version is not available on YouTube, so the link is to an instrumental version; but I'm listening to the actual song.  It's the closing theme song to Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, and in context is utterly heart-breaking.

Later:  An excerpt from the song is available officially on YouTube, it seems:

Well, I spent part of the evening watching Joe Bonamassa and Jeff Beck (and his cute bassist Tal Wilkenfeld) on television.  Good times, even if this isn't my kind of music.  Those guys are good!

As far as cute bassists go, Tal is right up there with Mrs doombilly.

Listening to the new Daughter album, If You Leave. Been a while since I've anticipated new music like this, and it didn't disappoint.

A couple of links I've posted before: Still, the first single from the album, and a live set that has 3-4 more songs from the new album along with older stuff.

I went to my grandpa's house for his birthday this past weekend. My aunt and one cousin/best friend/former band mate that passed away about two years ago also lived there. She's just now kind of okay with letting people up into his room and trying to get rid of some things that don't really have any specific sentimental value to anybody in the family and wouldn't have much resale value if she were to try to sell it. So she gave me the giant cd binder he used to keep in his car prior to my finding him a used 30gb ipod for cheap that he drove around with his last few months. A lot of what's in there is pretty scratched up. There was a good deal of admittedly terrible stuff in there and a lot of stuff I like but either already had or that I burned for him in the first place. But I did fish out a few gems that I've been enjoying the hell out of the past couple days including:

Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Further Out

Link Wray & The Wraymen - Rumble! The Best Of Link Wray

The Sundays - Reading, Writing And Arithmetic

Rancid - B Sides And C Sides (very hit or miss, but not bad considering I got it for free and Rancid is definitely a band he and I bonded over a lot)

Sublime - Robbin' The Hood (i forgot how good this was cuz of all their later radio hits getting played to death)

The Merkurs - Let's Rock and In The Shadows burnt onto one cdr. (I definitely like the "New Music For The New Year" or whatever its official title was ep that came out circa 2006 better, but this definitely brought back some great memories of the summer prior to that when i first saw/met these great folks.)

Eeeeeeeeeeee! New Amaranthe album! <3 <3 <3 I'm freaking loving it too! The first four songs on the album, Afterlife, Invincible, The Nexus and Theory of Everything (above) have me head over heels, the rest of the album's pretty solid too. An excellent sophomore effort. Now if only they'd come to the U.S. on tour....

Though I got to see Nightwish on tour last year, and Dropkick the year before that, so suppose I shouldn't be too greedy about getting to see my favorite bands live.

It was the show in Denver right before Annette left the band. She got rushed to the hospital, so instead we got treated to one of the most intimate concerts I've ever been to, mass karaoke, Elyse Ryd (of Amaranthe, touring with Kamelot) giving one of the ballsiest performances I've ever seen, she did Amaranth with 15 minutes to learn the lyrics killed it. Marco sang Planet Hell (which is epic with all male vocals) some of their instrumental pieces got worked into the set list, and of course the world premier of Rest Calm live. Marco at one point said something like "You know there's points up here on the Rock and Roll stage, where we yell at the crowd "I can't hear you" well I goddamn well can tonight!"

Also for the record, I'm shocked you'd ask so brashly about such an intimate act in public. I mean you'd at least have to buy me dinner first

I was surprised when I read that Annette left the band...apparently I've been living under a rock for about a year :psyduck: But that sounds sick...geez, now I have to find out where they're playing. I was going to see ZZ Top, but it's really not quite the same...

Gonna be a bit I think, they need to grab a new singer, then it's on to the new album. Their last world tour was pretty thorough though! Great coverage here in the U.S.

I've found that listening to music at work doesn't eh.. work for me. I tend to start listening and forget what I'm doing. Except when I'm really tired. Then it, oddly enough, makes me more focused.

Now listening to Animal Collective. Most of it.

All depends on what I'm doing. when I'm just looking at server/firewall/backup logs or other mindless mundane stuff it is nice to have some tunes. When I'm digging through databases to see how someone messed something up or am compiling some details for contract negotiations the music can be less than helpful.
