heard this on the outtro of an episode of Extra Credit.  Nostalgia filled into me with tears of joy!  Sometimes it really makes me want to get into music.

I keep my radio tuned to 106.5, a rock station out of Charlotte, NC. There's a suburb of Charlotte called China Grove that often gets mentioned on there during traffic reports because a busy interstate runs through it, and it always makes me think of this song. It's part of their "line-up," so one day I want them to play this right after talking about it.

I could'a sworn I posted this already, but... I'm really enjoying M.I.A.'s latest album. If you liked Kala, you'll probably like Matangi.

One of the greatest metal albums ever (IMO)

I think I have bipolar music tastes.. the above was what I was listening to yesterday. Here is today:

Video unrelated.. only copy I could find on youtube.

Put that on repeat and tell me you aren't in a relaxed (probably slightly depressed) mood.

I have a curse that I love depressive sounding music and I can't stop listening to it because it's just so beautiful.

So I finally managed to get into Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

I don't know why, but the few times I listened into some of their songs I never really enjoyed it. Some weeks ago I listened to "'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!", and liked it. Now I'm sitting here, enjoying F#A#∞. The music really is a little hard to get into, but it's worth it. Their music is pure art.

The list of lists has been published and it's now being broadcast until new year's ... It's supersoft and ancient popmusic and quite some dutch too but it's a nice tradition that's been going on for 15 years now.

Karnivool's 2013 album Asymmetry. Good album, if you're into Tool-esque prog rock. Not an easy listen tho, takes some effort to "get into" the music, with odd time signatures and pacing, and few straight-forward catchy riffs/melodies. Recommended listens: "Who We Are", "Aeons". Personally, I prefer their previous album, Sound Awake. (My favorite song from that album, Karnivool in general and pretty much at all; "New Day")

One of my recent obsessions.

Yuck, that cover reminded me of Bullet for my Valentine's Temper Temper. (Bad thing)

I can tell that you aren't terribly familiar with Antaeus as a band.

However, you did actually make me laugh.

Wow... I haven't heard this song in like *ages*.. I still remember the first time I saw this video in the 90s. Good song.

So what was that song about anyway? Loss? Weed? (Or was that just a coincedence with the Mary Jane thing?)

Fair enough.

Well, I suppose if you feel the need to listen to raw, hateful, misanthropic black metal, then picking this up would be a wise decision.

My impression after listening to it was that it's about weed. "One more time to kill the pain" is the tip off for me. Apparently when Mike Campbell was asked about it he only gave cryptic answers. Usually if enough people imply that a song is about something that it isn't (such as with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds) the artist will come right out and say it.

Anyway,

Massive Attack is pretty awesome IMO.. especially that Angel track and of course Teardrop (aka the House theme)

Oddly enough they were my gateway to UNKLE and the *awesome* Burn My Shadow song (and the subsequent Junkie XL remix).

Teardrop has always made me appropriately misty-eyed ever since I found out its origin story WRT Liz Fraser's lyrics/performance.

Have anyone hear listened to Major Parkinson? They're a Norwegian, but very foreign sounding eclectic prog rock group, that's best described like a heavier version of Cardiacs. They have a two albums out, with a third due shortly. I really recommend checking them out; they write great melodies and hooky riffs, with a sound and style that's quite different from most every other band, while still being reasonably accessible.

Recommended listens:
"197" (Major Parkinson)
"Bazooka Mirror" (Major Parkinson)
"Teenage Mannequins" (Songs From A Solitary Home)
"Heart of Hickery" (Songs From A Solitary Home)
"Euthanasia Roller Coaster" (Single)
