2 days after graduating high school, Madi Sipes puts together this solid 45-minute set of original material, some with backing band, some solo. I've already bragged about her in previous posts, but it's just such an incredible rush when you witness somebody with literally limitless potential blow you away each time you hear them.

Today I was listening to Rameau and Duphley harpsichord suites played by Gustav Leonhardt.

I bought a Pair of UrbanEars headphones (consensus so far: pretty good for the price) and have been messing with levels using an .mp3 of this song.

Hare hare yukai - the end song from the Haruhi Suzumiya anime - in Kyon's character version, in which he interjects snarks at his own singing.  The gentle plodding guitar and his low-key delivery make it really quite relaxing.

Spotify has this really cool playlist called Appalachia Rising, there's a bunch of traditional Appalachian music, but also a lot of interesting remixes and genre cross-overs involving it.

This won't be everybody's cup of tea, but I've been playing Owen Pallett's "In Conflict" to death since before it came out. It's the best thing I've heard in a long time.

Because I love the despair at the start of it... and it just seems to continue throughout the song no matter how heavy it gets.

I'm fairly okay with Thomas, as a rule, especially if narrated by Ringo, but having to listen to it a bit to often now the kid is three and a bit is really souring it for me.

Also, some of those stories are downright gruesome.

I like amvs and sometimes songs on shows, but to me music isn't to important. my brother loved some of it though and to me it was just always loud noise.

Nice.  This copy is Chamber Orchestra of the Saar, conducted by Karl Ristenpart.  I ripped it to .flac when I still had a functioning turntable.  One of these days I'll have to find another good one, since for some reason I keep keep picking up LPs.

JS Bach's "Die Kunst der Fuge"

A coincidence! I bought that on CD just last week. An old recording (ADD) from late 70s IIRC. Sir Neville at the helm (or playing a fiddle?) of Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

But this week this piece has nearly reached earworm status.

The two are connected in the sense that the pianist/composer of that trio is in the habit of claiming that Bach was a jazz composer. And he's not alone in thinking that way.

Very nice.  For a lot of those works, I actually prefer the older recordings (hence why most of Sibelius, Bach, Mahler, and Wagner is all on old (but in good condition) vinyl.  I *did* once have a boxed set with all of Wagner's Ring Cycle on CD, but sadly, not any more.

Now, back to the thread, it's

I found this song way back when on AudioGalaxy (*nostalgic tear*) and back then I loved it. It's not quite as groovy as I remember but in a strange way I think I still like it, even though it's... well :o

Well, I was just listening to Oxford Town by Bob Dylan.

I...I don't know how this is possible, but there's no uploads of his version of it on YouTube, just a whole bunch of covers.

So, um...here's one of those covers (much more uptempo than the original) while I contemplate how such a thing is possible. I think Bob Dylan might be God. So I'm sure as hell not going to upload one, out of fear that lightning will strike me down.
