I used to love Manfred Mann's Earth Band
they seem so cheesy to me now a lot of the time but there´s still some songs I really dig.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrp4jK0v4fs

Kanye West sampled this?
Fuck that guy.
I sampled it first, also their cover of "Father of Day, Father of Night".

They were wildly more popular on the continent than in the UK for some reason.  Many of their albums reached Gold or Platinum in Germany (and the USA), but none in the UK; and they had four No1 albums in Germany, whereas their highest album position in the UK was 24.

Do people know that Alan Parsons engineered Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, and was assistant engineer on the Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be?

I read up on him after buying the record and, yeah, that´s some credentials the man has going there!°

I would have guessed he was famous for being an engineer. He also produced Al Stewart's Year Of The Cat, an album that I love very much :)
They still play some of the songs off that album on the more "oldie" oriented radio-stations in Germany.

I knew this, and seeing him in 2003 on the Classic Albums doc about DSOTM, I couldn't believe how fucking young he looked.

Yes! I love Alan Parsons  :-D  He's extremely talented and extraordinarily innovative.

I actually even have his sound recording and engineering technique DVDs which are great.

The last few nights I have been going through my folder of Celtic music and listening to one or two songs from each album.

I am currently listening to Emily Groff singing "Witch Of The Westmerlands".

I am enjoying this activity immensely.

My bandmate Matt first showed me this song by playing it for me on my guitar in my living room the final week before I had to be gone from that house. I didn't have anywhere to go, anywhere to store my things, my friendship with that roommate had all but dissolved into nothing, no job, and literally nothing going for me. He sang me this song and I cried and cried, and he got me coffee.

No matter what's wrong, nowadays I hear this song and I'm invincible. Just try me, I can't be vinced.

Yeah, turns out I was right. ...I'll give them a chance, I guess.

The Jamestown soundtrack. I got it with the Humble Bundle and didn't listen to it because I didn't think it would be my thing. Remind me next time that I'm an idiot.

http://finalformgames.bandcamp.com/album/jamestown-soundtrack

There's two bonus tracks as well. I think you get them if you buy it on bandcamp, but I'm not certain. I'm thinking of learning Farewell, but I have no idea how I'm going to do the scale at 2:20.

I know Bohemian Rhapsody is amazing, but EVERYONE knows it, so it tends to be a bit cliche... How about Death on Two Legs? In Love With My Car? Fat Bottomed Girls? All very nice, if I do say so myself...but as a love song, Best Friend nails it for me.

In Love with My Car, really? What an awful song.

Death on Two Legs is pretty much unparalleled, though - it ranks pretty highly on my favourite Queen tracks. (Off-hand, the only other one that I like as much as that one would be Innuendo.)

Anyways, I'm listening to Long Hard Road out of Hell.

Wow. That really makes his singing sound more humanly possible, yet still fucking awesome.
And jesus, dude's pretty damn insecure about performing. Very weird.

The version of Independence Day was waaaaagh awesome. It's incredible how his songs sound so good played on other instruments, even though the guitar parts usually are so intricate and awesome in themselves.

Mark Knopfler - Privateering

Mostly Dream of the Drowned Submariner and Privateering, although that's only because they are the only two I've found on YT. I'll be buying the disks when I'm next in town though.

I also heard a few seconds of a track by The Hush Sound, which sounded interesting.
