Ah, yes.  With the proverbial glass of Laphroaig in my hand, I am listening to Damh The Bard.  Specifically, Matty Groves, at the moment.

Laphroaig in hand, I am listening to Norbert Kraft's recording of the complete solo guitar works of Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Norbert Kraft is a great guitarist. His version of Julia Florida is still my favourite. And Villa-Lobos was a genius. I'm still considering spending a year learning one of his Preludes or Etudes. (Maybe Prelude No. 1)

Anyway, before I opened this thread and got the urge to put on my Norbert Kraft CD I was listening to Sigur Rós' "Kveikur". When I first listened to it I didn't like the new style (see the "What the fuck did he just say?" thread), but after listening to it more I like it better and better. It's very noisy and sounds very aggressive, especially in comparison with the older Albums, but except for a few moments where the distortion becomes too much, it's a good Album. It's definitely different. Bláþráður is my favourite song at the moment, but Kveikur is great too.

Damn, there's so much random shit in my music collection…

I'm cleaning it up right now. But I had to listen to so much bad music in an even worse quality, because me from the far past didn't consider id3 tags to be important.

Now I've reduced the files in my "unsorted" folder to 10, which I've acquired in higher quality (I was surprised to notice that a small portion of that music was in fact released under a creative commons license) and which I'll keep for nostalgia's sake.

Here's an example of what music 13 year old me listened to:

And as an apology here's an example of what music 18 year old me listened to most of the time today:

We even used it as a warmup for practice on Sunday, it's the best song ever fucking written

"Origins" by God is an Astronaut.

Because it's awesome. Different, but awesome. And I have the limited edition vinyl. Even though the official release is on September 13, they have started shipping them some time ago. And the online sales are running as well. I don't quite understand why they'd set the release date so late. (and on my birthday incidentally)

But the album is awesome!

Another area band that a friend pointed out to me, Atlas and Arrows. Indie/Folk, female lead with a smooth and smoky voice. They just had a successful Kickstarter to record an album, and here are a couple of the professionally produced songs out of that.

Here's a cover of a Peter Bjorn and John song "Young Folks"
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/atlasandarrows/young-folks-cover[/soundcloud]

And here's an original, "Hands"
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/atlasandarrows/hands[/soundcloud]

Now listen to those (and even the demos on the rest of the Soundcloud page) and tell me whether you'd guess they're all 16 and still in high school.

While cleaning up last night I was rewatching Parks & Rec on the laptop and happened upon this song. Paused the episode and listened to it on YouTube.

Also I cried, as I am one to do.

Currently lying in bed and enjoying having a radio tuner again. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but in Germany you can receive analog radio over cable. I forgot we have good stations like Klassikradio.

They just finished Max Reger's String Quartet No. 1 in G-Minor, Op. 54, No. 1, and are now playing the Symphony No. 3 of Anton Bruckner.

Yay, classical music!
