I'm not a fan of rap but wow, that was pretty good.

And now what I've been listening to on repeat for a few days:

Major Parkinson's new album, Twilight Cinema. Got it in the mail today, pretty good so far, though it is the kind of music that takes a while to grow on you. Definitively not an easy listen, a little more progressive and experimental than their previous two albums, which is saying quite a bit.

I don't really care much about Macklemore in this case. Christopher Mansfield that beautiful chorus, on the other hand.

As far as Macklemore, he's written a lot of great songs (Same Love, My Oh My, Neon Cathedral) If I were him I wouldn't be happy that I poured my heart out into those songs but became famous for a stupid song about a thrift shop. That's just me, though.

Anyway...

ATM I seem to be obsessed with the counterpoint between John Hiatt's Thing Called Love and Bonnie Raitt's Thing Called Love.

Unfortunately there are no youtube videos of the new Zeromancer stuff which is quite a shame... because it's really awesome. It's a bit less "industrial" then when they started which is kinda disappointing but I still like where they are going.

I am rummaging through "You Tube" listening to Sandy Denny in her various incarnations, and loving it.

I am also sipping on a Laphroaig Triple Wood as I do this.

With my glass of Laphroaig Triple Wood in hand, I am letting The Winds of the Old Days blow through my hair.

Joan Baez; Pete Seeger; Donovan; Elizabeth Cotton; Ian And Silvia; Peter, Paul and Mary; Kingston Trio; The Limeliters; Buffy St Marie, and others.  Good times.

With my glass of Laphroaig in my hand, I am listening to Jesse Ferguson on YouTube.

I had sort of forgotten about old Jesse since he was not in my YouTube Celtic folder (i have corrected this).

ED from Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.  The wistfulness of this tune (and the images, which are actually in B/W after every episode except the last) gets me every time (the show is about a child's loss of innocence in the face of war).

This guy is like 18 and I first met him when he played at the open mic I run at my coffee shop. Found his music online for the first time randomly about the time Matt and I were doing overdubs for our own record, and this is his newest release. I remember the first time he played the closing track at my open mic. I fuckin cried man.

Wow, songwriting with real impact. You weren't kidding about the feels.

More young artists who know what the hell they're doing. Full set from The Westwards headlining a major club for the first time, and bringing it ALL.

Their bassist, Madi Sipes, played a solo set just before. Just turned 17.
Also: "King", "Long Distance Lovers", "She", and a Lady Gaga cover "Do What U Want".

This has been stuck in my head ever since I heard it performed at a "miscast" dinner theatre on Valentine's day. This is the only version of it I could find online. I can't seem to find out anything else about the show either.

Recently I've been listening to a radio station a lot. It's DR P8 Jazz. It's the Jazz station of Danmarks Radio, which is basically the danish BBC. I've been finding a lot of great new music through it, and my most recent discovery is the small danish band Radiostar. I find their music hard to categorise, all I can say is that it's great.

Here's the song that got me hooked:
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/michaelblicher/02-things-in-the-wind[/soundcloud]

Their music is basically only available on Bandcamp, and their English translation is terrible, but the music is great. (Could any of our danish members provide a better translation of the Mannish album description?)

"Home, Like Noplace Is There" by The Hotelier.

Sorta glossed over it the first time I heard the preview tracks on bandcamp, but a recommendation from a friend with a pretty similar music taste made me give it another chance.  Turns out it's a grower, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it now!
