I was going to say this is "one of my favorite songs," but no, fuck it, it IS my favorite.

That promo video on the other hand...

Still my favourite song from Mogwai:

Gary Numan - Love Hurt Bleed

It's like he went on tour with NIN back in the late 90s and never recovered...

I had to explain to someone why I don't particularly like Metallica, despite listening to metal.  The best explanation I could come up with was that they turned into the metal version of dad rock.  It was an unsettling thing to suddenly realize.   :psyduck:

Tried some MBV Loveless.  I mean, there's stuff I like about shoegaze, but I think you need a good song inside the textures.

Been looking for songs that would be suitable for a first dance. Somehow ended up listening to Nouvelle Vague songs on youtube.

MBV never were on the top of my list of shoegaze bands for various reasons, was always more into Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Lush, Curve, etc.  Asobi Seksu is a second generation American group too.  And sometimes a bit harder than the others ('cept maybe Curve).

Asobi Seksu -- Trails (give it a minute song takes a little to fully build-up)

Curve -- Missing Link

I discovered Slowdive through The Gathering's cover of As The Sun Hits.  I really love that song, and a few others, so I guess I should explore and expand my repetoire.

Thanks for the suggestions, Hedgie.  If you have more, feel free to PM me some, or even just post them.

Happy to oblige:

Lush playing live ("For Love", and "Sweetness and Light")

A Sunny Day in Glasgow -- "Sigh, Inhibitionist"

And finally
Cocteau Twins -- "Pearly Dewdrops' Drops"

Carissa's Weird is good for some late shoegaze. "Songs about leaving" is pretty much the ultimate break-up album, for what it's worth.

Passacaglia by Lars Danielsson is the latest addition to my list of favorites. Just last week I visited a Jazz club, where he played double bass, Iiro Rantala (I mentioned that dude earlier) was at the piano and Peter Erskine with the drums. The debut of that trio, if I got it right. Sounded like they were having fun. I certainly enjoyed it.

Fan running, TV on in the other room - and it's GLORIOUS.

(After having two ears blocked up with excessive ear wax - and both flushed out - it's great, trust me.)

Just got back from watching Nirvana live from Feb 12th, 1990. This was a couple of different video filmed at the local club during the 2nd show of their first tour for their first album (attendance 65 at the original show). Another videographer edited the 2 sources together and the result was shown on the big screen at the downtown classic movie palace. Pretty darn good audio and video for the time and how long those tapes have been sitting on the shelf.

Raw and powerful stuff coming off of that dinky and cramped stage, and you can tell exactly why they became an unstoppable force that changed the entire music industry. Unfortunately, I wasn't into the live music scene at the time, so wasn't at the show, but I remember specifically seeing the music video for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and very consciously thinking "this changes everything". I wasn't even that much of a fan, but if you saw how absolutely dominating and omnipresent Hair Metal was in the popular culture for anything that was considered "hard" in music back then, you'd get it.

For me that'd be grounds for divorce.  I think stores shouldn't play Christmas music before December 15th, and that's only as a concession to the fact that Christmas is popular.
