I've been listening to Elle King a lot these past couple days. None of her songs that I've heard yet have really good lyrics (I don't think) although there's this lassic hard-rock attitude to them. But the reason I've been listening to her is that her voice is amazing. You only ever hear one song of her's on the radio, but I really hope she isn't a one-hit wonder. There was one comment that called her 'this generation's Janis Joplin.'

I've got Bowie's final album Blackstar pretty much on permanent repeat right now. It sounds better every time I listen to it.

Skills in Pills by Till Lindemann

Imagine an old rocker or metalhead writes an autobiography1. It'll be full of craziness. Till Lindemann made an album about himself, and half the songs are about his sex life. In other words, it's brilliant.

Also Praise Abort is the official song of my couple since my girlfriend and I are both utterly disgusted by children.

1 Ozzy doesn't count since most of the stuff in his autobiography was told to him since he doesn't remember, wasn't aware, or is currently braindead.

It's technically a part of a much larger instrumental (as in, he redid the improv years later), but the longer version isn't as spectacular or raw as this one, which is the one I have in my phone.

So these guys used to go to my college (back when the band was called Do it to Julia) and I know a couple of them (specifically the guitarist and drummer) in a 'friend of a friend' sort of way. That's not actually why I'm sharing this though, I'm sharing it because it might be the best Tiny Desk concert I've seen yet (a toy piano and a typewriter are used as instruments).

Panic! At The Disco's newest album, Death of a Bachelor.

I did not enjoy this much on the first couple listens other than one of the singles but letting it sit in my shuffles, I ended up really enjoying every song that came on. It's really fun listening to the whole album in one sitting now.

Still hate the childlike NaNaNaNa-style choir chanting in Victorious though. Almost ruins the rest of it for me and I think that's what tainted my first listen because I was so against the first second of that screeching and had to get over it to enjoy the rest.

I've discovered Big Star's music thanks to a documentary on Netflix, and oh my god.

The second side of #1 Record is just immaculate.

If there's one thing to dislike about what I find of Yoshitaka in rhythm games is that the pieces are too short.

I am finding myself really into Eurovision, enough that I am tempted to scorn the CAD's terrible exchange rate and my sore bank account to buy the CD.

A student of mine put that on in a lesson yesterday, and it neatly encapsulates why I listen to so little of NSP's music - to me it all just sounds kind of cheap and weak. There are some exceptions, like 'No Reason Boner,' and for some reason Starbomb seem to be immune to this, as their music packs a much heavier punch and fuller sound, but NSP to me always just sounds... kinda shittily produced.

And for the record, that is a song I really love in its original form and Danny's vocals on it are tremendous. I dunno, maybe crappy production is part of their gimmick. It's the same problem I have with most of The Lonely Island's material. They are parodying shitty rap songs by making shitty rap songs. But I don't want to listen to shitty rap songs. Something that's shitty on purpose is still shitty.

Usually, I'm all about the metal, but I've been listening to a very un-metal band recently, and I'm even planning to go to the Keep Austin Weird festival just to see them.

Dug up this youtubed version of Cantus Arcticus in remembrance of the composer Einojuhani Rautavaara. He passed away yesterday at the age of 87.
