Sometimes when doing busy work at my job, I'll listen to sea shanties.  Here's a good short one. Randy Dandy-Oh by the Dreadnoughts.

I got this in email a week or so ago with a note that said, "isn't that your couch?"  (it isn't, BTW....)

I understand that this song is about characters ("inklings," or cartoon characters released into the "real" world) from a horror-themed game.  I've never played that game, but damn.  If I had a Windows machine around here somewhere I might try it.  It's not worth my time to set one up for it, but every so often there's an interesting cultural artifact that only runs on Windows.

This is more or less exactly why people are scared of Artificial Intelligences, especially when they finally get that yes, some of us are working pretty hard to figure out how and why real emotions work in an AI context.  (EDIT:  in case it wasn't obvious, real emotions, while absolutely vital for a full understanding of human values and morality, are likely to be a lot easier than real sanity.  Sanity, I suppose, is at the end of a very long debugging process ... Or, as Alice here sings, "so many experiments, so many mistakes...." ) It's the sort of thing I might send the next reporter who asks that stupid question to look at.

Wow. That comedy band I post here all the time, Ninja Sex Party, they were a guest on the Conan O'Brien show last night. I am stunned. They have come a long way from just youtube videos. Now they do live shows (I saw them in concert a couple of years back) they have an album on top of the billboard charts and now they were a guest on Conan muthafukin O'Brien?  Sucks they had to censor their song but just wow. Its probably the cleanest lyrical song they had from their album so I can understand why they chose it. But just wow. I feel like I am watching a friend realize their dream of becoming a rock star.  You can totally tell they're nervous but just wow.

I'm listening to high-fidelity original techno music, apparently composed by a hacker, that was delivered to our founder's place of work inside a Bluetooth Virus.  Which plays it on random metallic objects in the environment using radio-frequency induced resonators - which in this context means trash cans, venetian blinds, the pwm controller on the fridge's compressor motor, the computer fans, the metal window frame ....  it took us freakin forever to figure out where it was coming from, then longer to figure out that it was being caused by funtenna shenanigans on infected bluetooth devices.

And it took longer than that to get a high-quality recording, because it's barely audible in the first place and all the audio equipment we could find at first filtered it out as low-level RF noise.  Which, to be fair, it basically is.

But, yeah, it's definitely real.  This "Hacking the Unicorn" track about an earlier Bluetooth exploit is actually pretty good, but I want to punch the guy who apparently wrote and performed it.  This mess will cost thousands to clean up, because there's no real remediation path on infected Bluetooth devices.

Evanescence had an album come out last year and were touring earlier this year. Maybe not in the mainstream conscious as much but still doing well.

Talking of Evanescence... there's this band called To Mera that comes up on my "prog metal" Pandora station. I like to describe them as "what Evanescence would sound like if they didn't suck."  :-D

It isn't a million miles away from the original, though, is it? I mean, it's a good cover... but it sounds very similar.

I've discovered this trend of editing songs to sound they're being played in specific situations and they're so immersive and relaxing.

Jolene by Dolly Parton except it’s playing downstairs while you’re laying up in the loft of a cabin listening to the thunder and rain hitting the roof tiles above you

Edit: Looking at that last link I've learned on Tumblr this is called "music from another room"

Every now and again I'll find a classical song from a movie, game or commercial/trailer and will listen to it. This is one such song. Its in everything but I always think of the title screen from the game "Return Fire" but I think it was also in the street fighter movie/trailer and for sure it was in "Fury Road"

I've been listening to a lot of Shpongle lately. In particular the bass lines are inspiring me to work further in my own music, and really explore how a good bass groove can use only one or two notes.

The video is the complete 2015 London concert, supporting the Museum of Consciousness album.

Its based off a movie with Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren, so yeah it kind of was meant to invoke that feeling.  :-D

I love "Digital Love" by Daft Punk (favorite song by them!) and I also love "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire.  Someone did a lovely mashup of these songs

funny story, digital love was playing while we were at the cash register in walmart this past weekend and I started singing it...out loud...in public...

My wife was very confused and also enjoyed it.

I like 'Digital Love,' I don't much care for 'September' but it's kind of sewn into one's DNA after a certain number of years alive, and this is... genuinely joyous and uplifting. Thank-you very much for sharing it with us.

Caravan Palace released a new song today called "Miracle"

Its cool but the video is not safe for work so I'll leave a link instead of a video. It has a sex scene in it as well as suggestive images.
