If people don't like the new layout, could CHATTER be made into a category and DISCUSS and RELATE be put into their own category?

Gold sparkles (in a bath melt) that smell like both orange and patchouli.

@Paul: Is mushy flirting still banned in Relate? :-D

Well, take another look at Paul's note on flirting.
If flirting is a communication of interest between two people, why is an audience important, especially if it can make some bystanders uncomfortable?
I'm new to this role, so Paul and the other mods may amend. But if you can imagine someone responding to the flirting with the expression "Get a room, you two," then PM is a better place. In my experience with the phrase, the threshold for "Get a room" is low.

Because sometimes things come up in regular conversation that you could want to weave in a remark based on? :-)

But how would Relate work, exactly? I mean, if it's a place to talk about things like relationships and sex and a few forum-members are interested in each other? It's only about outside people? So Garand could've talked about Ceras in there up until the point she joined this week, for instance? :psyduck:

The way I understood it, "Relate" is supposed to include what one commonly colloquially calls "grown-up problems" (Disclaimer: this by no means implies that non-grown-ups don't have important problems.) Also, this would include seeking and providing emotional support.

The new purpose of "Chatter" would then be smalltalk (weather thread), forum games (Mafia), discussion of pastimes which don't fit in "ENJOY" (cooking, cycling, gym thread, university/school etc).

...and now I realize this doesn't answer your question.

Also: Will there be additional age restrictions on the Relate? (I'd rather not have any, seeing as the forum, and arguably the comic, are PG-13 already).

Could we maybe have this discussion split off (and possibly moved straight into Relate)?

Well, I have an idea where voyeurism begins, but where does it end? I don't think the forum is the place to find out.

And I don't know if there's an exact answer to how this works. Weaving in a flirty remark in a conversation? I don't see a problem. But at the other end of the spectrum, the appearance of sustained flirtation, increasing in intensity and spanning several threads? That can put bystanders in several places in a discomfort zone.

I hereby support Pilchard123's proposal. This seems more suitable than the current layout. Also, will the "Relate" forum be "Members only"? I don't really feel good about the stuff I posted in there being public. I mean, I can live with it, I wouldn't have posted there otherwise, but still, I would feel more comfortable that way.

Sometimes I look at my bank account, see that 'hey, I have money', and think that there is no reason why I shouldn't just buy a one-way ticket to Outer Mongolia...

One day I'll probably even have the guts to do it.
Why Mongolia?  Just curious.  I always liked learning about the medieval mongols.  :-)  Crushed everyone playing as them in Age of Empires 2.

My main issue with overt flirting is how quickly it completely takes over a thread, especially on a forum as slow as this one.

Consider that the cost of living in NYC is extremely high. I don't know about Austin.
Although when my wife, who'd always had a desire to live in Manhattan, suggested we look into a summer sublet in 2005, we found one for about $3,600 for two months, a/c included. Remaining costs were no more than we'd have had remaining here in rural Michigan.

If I go to NYC I'll probably go back to nursing or welding. My biggest concern is getting somewhere that I can actually find employment and cities seem like a better bet than this rural town I'm in.

A sign next to a prominently displayed toilet at the home center store announced in large letters that it was able to flush 36 golf balls.

This is no doubt commendable engineering, but I would have thought that a potential buyer might save money by first considering a change of diet.

Around the world there are people that knit jumpers for chickens that have been released/retired/rescued from cages, in which their wings and feathers were clipped.  Here  here  etc

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0

Ignoring the horrible name (the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 3G is even worse) we have:

-the screen on that thing is HORRIBLE. 600p TFT? what are they THINKING?
-android tablets should have onscreen buttons, not physical ones. physical buttons make for a horrible tablet experience
-LET THE MENU BUTTON DIE ALREADY! android tablet software doesn't even SUPPORT it!
-People use tablets in landscape. a lot. why did you make it so difficult to use in landscape?
-adapting the galaxy s3/4 smartphone design to non-smartphones does NOT look good
-would you quit releasing devices exclusively in white? white devices are ugly, and white plastic looks and feels about 20 times cheaper than identical plastic in another color.

well, I'm sure Samsung didn't really want to release a tablet device, they just released a phone with a screen big enough to be allowed to call it tablet.

And I kinda expected it to be about the galaxy tab, just wanted to be sure.

they've released great tablets in the past. they're certainly capable.

i just don't get it.

there IS a market for a PREMIUM 7" phone. there really is.

sadly this is nowhere near that mark. the Asus FonePad comes close, but its still not flagship-level goodness.

In other news I found out I get to join a class action law suit! Yay me? It will eventually net me about $100, so that's cool at least.

On another note:

A messenger returned to Sparta from battle. The women clustered around.

To one, the messenger said, "Mother, I bring you sad news: your son was killed facing the enemy."

The mother said, "He is my son."

"Your other son is alive and unhurt," said the messenger. "He fled from the enemy."

The mother said, "He is not my son."

I can't for the life of me figure out why people hashtag things on facebook. I've come to the conclusion that either they missed the point entirely, or I did.

Sometimes it is a post pushed through from a platform which uses hashtags.  e.g. an Instagram photo which they posted on Instagram and gave permission to push to their Facebook feed.
