I absolutely loved the "Republic Commando" novels from Karen Traviss. It had some great ideas (young jedi falls in love with clone elite soldier, clone troops meing shown as human, slightly individual beings, father figures to the elite units, Mandalorian culture), and I loved the ideas of the clones adopting the Mardalorian lore, which gives them some kind of identity. Also the way the Mandalorian culture was fleshed out a lot, explaining the background of Jango and Boba Fett. Sadly George Lucas was corrupted by Money and gave the then new "Clone Wars" series a higher priority, which lead to declaring the books non-canon (so the storywriters could decide more freely about Mandalorian history), so Traviss' years of work were officially invalid, which pissed her off so much, that she didn't write the final novel.
The books are still amongst my favourite novels. Oya Manda! Mando'ade kandosii!
