But imagine how many X-Wings the rebellion would sell you for one death star!

Maybe, but why would I need more than one? It's not like there are differences, like with cars. They are all the same model, so one's plenty enough. I suppose I'd settle for an additional A-Wing, B-Wing and Y-Wing though. Although B-Wings look kinda dumb.

B-Wings were always my favorite __-Wings. V-Wings as a close second.

B-Wings are weird. The concept of a gyroscopic cockpit is interesting, but the implementation looks really strange. Granted, they have impressive firepower for a fighter that size, but still. Don't really like them.

Ok but what I mean was that I want a real spaceship, not a fictional one. Ideally I'd go for a nuclear powered reusable design with plasma rockets as opposed to traditional chemical ones. I'd take Darth Vader's TIE fighter over the rebel ships.

Yes they are. A-Wings beat all, though.

If any TIE, I'd have to chose a TIE Hunter

As far as real spacecraft go, practically the only acceptable answer is SpaceShipTwo.

As far as star wars starfighters go,  nothing beats the Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor.

Out of TIEs, I'd want a TIE Phantom.

I care less about the type of wings and more about the person piloting them.

You'd really prefer an Actis-class over the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class?

The phantom is a good choice, though. I completely forgot about that one.

K-Wings are also gorgeous though.

I'm talking about design too. The Delta-7 looks awesome. Simple and elegant. But I agree on the K-Wing.

But why not turn it up a scale? Because there's really nothing more beautiful in the Star Wars Universe, than a Mon Calamari Cruiser.

Function above design. MandalMotors ships! Example: Boba Fett's Slave II.

But a Delta Flyer would be pretty awesome too.

If i wanted a functional starfighter (not a science fantasy one like something from star wars) it would have to be a Viper.

(also, if my ex - the one who taught me all this - was here, her only contribution would be that the only starfighter worth flying is the Z95 Headhunter)

For Star Wars I'd take an X-wing, or if I can have an actual ship a Corellian Corvette.

Star Trek: Gimme an Intrepid class ship with as many of Voyager's upgrades as possible.

For fiction I'll take the Aquaelie from Star Ocean 3. It's main cannon fires up to magnitude 2 on a scale where magnitude 1 is the average energy output of the sun in one second.

Numbers alone don't mean much.
Does 2 mean that it produces double the energy? That would be linear increase.
Is that in terme of orders of magnitude? Then the 2 would mean it has one zero more.
If it's quadratic... well... :psyduck:

...or maybe it's logarithmic. Each increasing the number by one halves the output

All TV and movie space-fighters are very soft science-fiction at best. BSG is only marginally better than Star Wars in that regard, despite decades of improvement in special-effects techniques. B5's Starfury is a little better than BSG in avoiding lazy aircraft-carrier tropes, but still raises awkward questions, unless you turn your science-brain off.

Well if we're going with starships with superweapons built in,  I'll take a Jellyfish.

@akima: I enjoy start wars, I really do. But I can't bring myself to call it sci-fi. It's science fantasy through and through. BSG at least earns the label of sci-fi.

Random: I just found a kickstarter for a game named DUBWARS. It's reached it's 30k funding goal. With less than 300 backers. Two people has donated ten thousand dollars to a silly dubstep-centered game for the Ouya. That is pretty awesome.

I could not agree more. Other valid choices are Sovereign and Defiant classes, but Prometheus is more awesome than both of them combined. :-D

And on the topic of MonCal Cruisers: I didn't really have a specific one in mind, they all look awesome. But if I had to pick one, it'd be the good old MC-80 Liberty. Most beautiful ship ever built.

If I wanted a small ship I could pilot alone, I'd go for something small. (introducing another universe here) Probably a M5, or maybe a M3 class ship. Maybe a M6/M7 in which a M5 can dock. That would be awesome as hell. A Split Jaguar in a Paranid Hyperion. That'd be nice.

Providing an alternative: OTAS Venti, instead of the Jaguar. The Hyperion is pretty awesome, but I think I'd prefer a Boron Hydra for design, or a Terran Springblossom for functionality.

You should really look into TC, it's way better than the standard X3 (at least in my opinion). The Springblossom is one of the most awesome ships in the whole game. An M6 with a top speed of 360, what more could you ask for?

That's my whole point, you don't really need an M5 if your M6 can already go that fast. You have enough room for a whole lot of energy cells for your jump drive and with a speed of 360 you can move around system plenty fast enough.

Also, random thought: Snickers ice cream is delicious.

They're soft military science as well. For theoretical void combat there is absolutely no good reason to have star fighters of any kind from ANY known continuity. The Star Marines series by Ian Douglas is pretty decent SciFi with solid science at least from the time, and where things really only get muzzy is applied alien tech that cheats, and starfighters on the grounds of rule of cool (his fighters are better then most) but the fact remains it's a waste of resources to create a fighter when you could be putting that much more weapons, targeting computers, reaction power, armor and life support into a behemoth. If we ever go to war amongst the stars it shall herald the return of battleship and dreadnought to their place at the center of naval (space type in this case) combat.

Actually Akima, the SA23 is more viable as a fighter craft because of it's configuration.  Hell, at one stage JMS and the team were approached by both NASA and the military who showed great interest in the Starfury AS a viable craft.

A gas-core reactor would give a great combination of thrust and specific impulse. Orion is simpler to build but the neighbors would likely complain.

Watching a show about doggies. It keeps making me cry because its set in a shelter so lots of sad doggy stories. Partner keeps getting freaked out by me crying and doesn't understand why I keep watching it.
I keep watching it because there's doggies and I like doggies. Also some of the dogs get happy endings in new homes. The happy dog stories make me cry too.

That cat lady video but dogs. Can't look it up on phone. "I want to hug them all but I can't!"

There's a difference between a bit of tearing up and getting seriously upset. If something actually upset me deeply I wouldn't watch it. People don't usually get told off for watching horror films, unless they can't handle getting scared.
