We have SCIENCE. Direct all your inquires there.

I'm not sure which is true, but I heard that space getting bigger means that it takes longer to travel from one point to another. That's why it's impossible for us to travel to the most distant galaxies: the space in between galaxies grows faster than we can travel, so even if we could travel close to light speed, we could never reach them. I suppose that must also mean that things here on Earth are getting further apart.
First of all, going near the speed of light isn't how you'd like to travel intergalactic distances anyway. You want faster than that, because else it'd already take you thousands of years to even leave the Milkyway, even if you take the shortest possible route from earth.
Secondly, things on earth aren't getting further apart, because even though the universe is expanding, that doesn't mean that the planets are stretched along with that expansion. Because if that were the case, they would all have been torn apart by now. Things (matter) are just drifting further apart, they are not getting bigger.

Well, I'd like to be able to do lots of things, going faster than light being only one of them. I figured I'd stay within the current realm of possibility.

Because if that were the case, they would all have been torn apart by now. Things (matter) are just drifting further apart, they are not getting bigger.
That implies that the space that planets inhabit is somehow immune to the expansion, while interplanetary space is getting bigger. Why would that be the case?

With our current possibilities going near speed of light is just as impossible as going faster than it, so why not assume the more practical way, seeing as both are equally impossible right now.

The way I see it, where there is actual matter, it 'displaces', for lack of a better word, the empty space that was previously there. This means that, while the empty space expands, it may push objects further apart, but it doesn't stretch them out, so distances on earth would stay the same. Of course I am no physicist, but this is how I think it works. I imagine it like balls floating in a pool of water. If you pour the water in a bigger pool it consume a wider area, but the balls stay the same size.

A song of me, a song in need of a courageous symphony, a verse of me, a verse in need of a pure heart singing me to peace
Paper is dead without words, ink idle without a poem, all the world dead without stories, Without love and disarming beauty, careless realism costs souls.

I didn't begin to go to high school and college reunions until I was in my mid-50s. Then I was sorry I hadn't gone to the earlier ones. They're not so much about reliving old times and dealing with the other kids you all were, as they are about dealing with new people with whom you have a long connection. What you've all become and how you got there is more fun than what you all once were. And financial success is the smallest part of that.

Ugh, 10 year reunions.....

I'm pretty good at party planning and offered to do a LOT of work for mine because I enjoy that sort of thing. Came up with some great places, affordable, good food, etc.

We're having it at the same place we had our prom, which also happens to be the same place the class of '02 had their reunion last year. It should be noted that the food was absolutely horrible. There were still tiny feathers on the chicken).

We're also having the exact same package, not doing any decorating and doing "then and now" name tags. Like the class of '02. No one is taking me up on my offers to decorate (awesomely and cheaply) and the best responses I've gotten were about doing the memorials for classmates who have passed. The response was "we'll figure it out closer to the date".

Not to mention, the whole thing is headed by someone that no one ever liked (because she was/is evil incarnate) and she's been a total nightmare to deal with. She complained to another friend of mine that she hated high school and doesn't understand why everyone hated her (side note- the friend she was complaining to has been trying VERY hard to be a friend to her, even though she constantly gets yelled at and told that she makes terrible life decisions). Everyone hated her because she was a bully!!

Also....seriously? If you hated high school so much, why are you so involved in the frakkin' reunion?

Oy...sorry for that. Got myself all riled up and that's not even half of it.

If I lived closer, I'd consider going. I don't really have a bunch of money laying around to fly there right now, though. Plus, my boss wouldn't be pleased about giving me time off to go to a high school reunion.

I haven't really kept up with most of the people in my high school class, but coincidentally one of the ones I have kept up with is arriving at the university I'm at this month as a new grad student. Maybe we could have a miniature high school reunion halfway across the country.

Three book = 900 strips; considerably less than halfway, in fact not much more than a third.  If there are 250 strips a year and one book of 300 strips a year, that's only 50 strips less left to be published after each book, and it will take something like 30 years to catch up with the moving target.

Thirty years on we will still only have moved maybe a year of time in comic.

I believe I read on his Tumblr or Twitter he was hoping to up it to two books a year. I think I'm not making that up.

Is the secret project not the Dating Sim idea that's been mentioned in the news? He's talked about it on Twitter (or Tumblr, my memory sucks) but I don't know if he that project is past the idea stage.

There is a girl here for an interview and I have spent the last 15 minutes with my mind thoroughly boggled while she fills out her application.

A series of questions that this person has asked (either to me or to their friend, who apparently had to come too):

"What does "Previous Address" mean?"

"What is the job title? Direct...something?"

"Do you have a zip code book?"

so have any of y'all seen the ECPI College of Technology TV ads?
"Zero to Bachelors degree in 2.5 years!"

well, it is horseshit.
I gave a interview last week to a new grad.
Part of the interview is a simple 10 question quiz on BASIC IT knowledge.
this fella totally FAILED it.

How can someone who can't tell me the 7 layers of the OSI model or the difference between a managed switch & a router... be a college grad?   So if an applicant presents an ECPI diploma, I'm totally NOT trusting it.

Oddly enough, I hired a 19 yo kid, who had a year's experience at Best Buy and an A+ Certification.

To be fair to the diploma holder, most places you see the five-layer tcp/ip model instead of the OSI model, so that could be a part of it. Not sure what your field is, though, or what's the norm in your area.

If he's supposed to know anything about networks, the other one is harder to excuse. Switches and routers are pretty important!

Well, I can't tell you the 7-layer OSI model out of my head either, and I've been managing networks for decades now (I can do the TCP/IP one, but never need to use that knowledge either).  Knowing and understanding the concepts that lead to the model is far more important.  But switch/router is another matter - rather basically different, even though domestic boxes usually contain the two together.
