I just ordered a tasty, yet particularly evil sandwich.

Just ate the giant evil sandwich, washing it down with one of my favourite beers ever. It'll be the last thing I eat or drink (besides water) until after I run my 5k in about 14 hours.

I can't remember if I said this to people here or not but for some reason it popped back into my head just now.

My Mammy tried to make fun of me for being old when I turned twenty-three so I replied, "You think I'm old? Your youngest child is twenty-three." She laughed but I don't think she was prepared for me to turn it around on her.

I do remember a conversation my wife and her sisters had about "What are we doing with 50 year old kids?".

I might be missing something, but after browsing Netflix on my landlord's account it seems I have vastly overestimated the number of movies that are on there. Just looking for something that I would want to sit down and watch in the lists of different genres reveals almost nothing of interest. The only movie that I decided in advance I wanted to see, and that Netflix actually had, was Memento. I thought this was supposed to be a service that rivals piracy for convenience?

I'm guessing you meant overestimated, and I agree with you. The USA service has far more content than other countries. I had Netflix briefly but ditched it because there was so little worth watching.

Yes I did, thanks, fixed now. This is the Swedish service I'm talking about; I don't know what the Dutch service (or any other) is like but I can't imagine it's much better, since it was introduced only recently.

You shouldn't have to, but maybe invest in a VPN that would allow you to access the USA version? (Not sure if that would work, but if it thinks you're accessing it from the USA you should be able to access everything)

That being said, I think dividing the internet into nations is fucked up and wrong.

It's basically the movie distributors shitting on what they perceive the "foreign" market.

What's worse is that the releases that DO arrive here are dubbed over, and I hate dubbing. Like, with a burning passion.

I'm not sure whether I prefer doing something not really legal and paying for it to doing something outright illegal to get the exact same entertainment products. But it doesn't matter as I'm going to do neither; I'm not invested in watching series or movies and I don't mind it staying that way.

It's something to do with licensing, but I don't really understand.

The same reason as region codes on DVD and BluRay disks (i.e. complete stupidity).

What's worse is that the releases that DO arrive here are dubbed over, and I hate dubbing. Like, with a burning passion.

This is why I buy DVDs - you get original and dub.  But (see above) I also ensure that all my players (and computer) will play any disk regardless of region, so I can get my preferred version from wherever.

How is using a minced oath in anger any better than using than using a swear word? When used as such, they mean the exact same thing, they serve the exact same purpose. The only thing the minced oath has is the illusion of civility.

Heh, supposedly the more chlorine heavy a pool smells, the more pee is in it.

Anyhoot, if your skin is feeling puffy and burn-y, try an antihistamine or a homemade vitamin c spray. (suggestions from here: http://www.marathonswimmers.org/forum/discussion/402/chlorine-problems-skin-hair-and-lungs/p1 )

(it turns out I don't know how to make links :( )

So random thought, I've been getting iced coffee at McDonald's every day, and I get it black with no sugar. The price board lists calories, and it lists the calorie range from 80 to I believe 270, but it's 80 that bugged me, because coffee with just ice should have no calories (or some negligible amount, like 5 or 10). Surely enough, I went online and looked up the calorie count and found out that 80 is with sugar. So what I don't get is, why don't they put the calorie range starting at 0? People can and do order it with nothing added, even if they have to specify to get it, so why advertise your product as having more calories than it has?

On the url thing, note that the url following the = sign must not be in quotes.  This is different in some other forum software, so is a somewhat common mistake.

Random thought: Espresso without sugar has more calories than filter coffee without sugar, as the high extraction pressure solves more of the coffee oils in the coffee than with a low pressure filter extraction.

Because it's warm water with particles in it? There's probably some, but close to 0 is accurate.

Question: Why would you care about the calorie count of coffee? Or anything? Just eat food, get full, be happy. Fuck the world.

EDIT: Not implying that happiness is easy! Just that eating what you want to is probably a step in the right direction to achieve that.

So I get home this evening and while I'm trying to wheel the bike in the front door my cat just stubbornly sits in the way looking out the front door at the mizzle that's starting. I cajole her in the usual XKCD mandated kitty talk until I get frustrated and slip into an Aaron Paul voice and say "Hey, Bounce Yo".

I might be watching too much Breaking Bad. Also, totally worked.

Why am I friends with some of my friends? Not in a they're jerk way or anything, they're really lovely people but I had a moment today where I realised I know bugger all about some of the people I really care about and have in my Drop Everything list. I guess we're friends based on liking each other's character rather than shared interests, which is kinda neat.

I would think your question shouldn't be "why am I friends with them?", but rather "why do I know so little about my friends?"

Originally that was the question but that started me on a cycle of thinking about how I'm such a shitty friend.

I know most of the time that I am a good friend but been a few incidents lately that have made me think I really should be trying harder, today's thought included. I think my way of thinking about why I'm friends with these people and why they're friends with me was to put a positive look on the situation.

The fact that you care so much makes you a good friend. It's always possible to be a better one, though.

I know I'm a terrible friend, but that's a combination of social anxieties and the fact that doing friend stuff just doesn't occur to me most of the time.

I just got the image of a midwife and a woman giving birth swinging towards each other on a trapeze - when they meet, the midwife pulls the baby out. The knife juggler is standing on the floor and cuts the umbilical cord with a a knifethrow.

What do you mean by "friend stuff"?

The stuff you do with friends: Talking to each other. Hanging out. Sharing interests. You know, acting on whatever is the reason you're friends in the first place.
