If LTK is like me, I'm guessing making plans to hang out or communicating can be difficult or outright forgotten for long whiles. Edit: Yus, seems we struggle with the same things.

The fact that you care so much makes you a good friend. It's always possible to be a better one, though.

Thanks, I've been told this before by other people and I used to believe it. This is one of the longest mood ruts I've been in and that's affecting a lot of my thought processes. I'm having better moments where I can reassure myself more often though.

The thing is, people don't want friends who can write an encyclopedia entry on their life. They want friends whose company they enjoy when they have it (even if that's only once every five years - I have some friends who fall into that category and I love them dearly).

That's a point I hadn't though of, at least not in relation to my post. Now that I've thought about it, not including online friends I'm yet to meet, I haven't seen most of my closest friends in person in about half a year. I still message them on Facebook or call them once in a while and we always make plans to hang out when it's an option. Just life means we don't see each other often, and also three of them live in England.

The context is I had no idea what to get someone for a birthday present but I found something I'm sure they'll like anyway.

I always struggle with presents, even for people I have known for years and years and think I know a lot about. Unless someone has a really obvious interest that lends itself well to gifts (I have a friend who collects those fluffy blobs with googly eyes and sticky ribbons on the base, I think they're called gonks) then it is always tricky.

My closest friends are people I haven't seen for months, or only see occasionally. One I have seen quite a bit lately as I'm a bridesmaid for her wedding this summer, but prior to that it was probably at least a year between us meeting up each time. Another I see a couple of times a year mostly because he is a touring musician and makes the effort to drop in whenever he's roughly near me. A third I haven't seen in over a year and probably longer; the last time I know I saw her was two and a half years ago but I am sure I've seen her since then, at least once.

People struggling to get me things is partially why I've started collecting fridge magnets and little figures. They're affordable small things that are easy to find but can still be personal and sentimental. Also I love that I have a stupidly expensive unit and I don't own anything fancy enough to put in it so it's full of RASSLIN action figures and Christmas ornaments my partner got from work.

OH HEY. I'M A HORRIBLE FRIEND. I'M AN ASSHOLE! THAT'S WHY PEOPLE TOLERATE ME FOR THIS LONG!

I always struggle with presents, even for people I have known for years and years and think I know a lot about.

That  is why I always implicitly state what I want for my birthday. That way, people don't feel bad about not knowing what to get me and stuffs.

I think it was an unsubtle way of saying that if you actually were a horrible friend then people wouldn't tolerate you, want to be with you, hang out, give gifts, but since you are not a horrible friend people do want to be with you, hang out and give gifts.

So, he's saying that you're a good friend.

All caps shouting and condescension doesn't help me. It actually reinforces the idea because it's berating me for having what I know is a flawed thought process and I even mentioned my depressive state in an earlier post.

Seriously of all the places and people, I trust this forum to be empathetic to depression and anxiety. Effectively yelling, "You're whining over something stupid!" might help someone but it came across as unnecessarily dickish for me.

That is most unfortunate. I don't think anyone here thinks you are whining, even in the slightest. And I think that we all sympathise with your problems. For what it's worth I wish you all the best

OH MY GOD WELU, I'm only reading this now, I got wasted yesterday and I shouldn't have posted in the forum. I didn't even remember posting that. I know drunkenness doesn't excuse misbehaving, but I sincerely apologize for being a dick.

Sorry.

That still doesn't mean the camera is lying though. Machines, as ever, can only do what we ask them to do. If we don't like the results then it is only ever our own fault for either asking the wrong question or asking the right question poorly.

Sometimes it really is just the particular photo chosen.  I have wanted to message ppl on Okc and be like, yo, your cover photo is terrible, use the one you have that noone can see until they click through, cause you've got to be losing potential clicks there buddy.  There's a ton of older men with a cover photo that is like, them in a too big shirt and bucket hat slumped in a lawn chair holding a beer and squinting into the sun, which they choose over their other uploaded photos in which they are wearing clothes that fit and have friendly body language and a big smile and it's like... why?

My own opinion and that of most people I've been with is that my smile is my most attractive quality, and smiles are what I find most attractive in people (aside from eyes) so I call bullshit on either that study or OKCupid in general.

Heh!  But it is rather specialised, I admit.  On a forum where it's relevant it has garnered quite a significant following.

So I just took a Benadryl (or generic equivalent) for allergies and I noticed the active ingredient is Diphenhydramine HCl, which...is the exact same active ingredient in the OTC sleeping pill I sometimes take. Are there other things in both pills, or are they the EXACT SAME THING? (Well, other than dosage, my sleeping pill is 50mg as opposed to 25 for the allergy pill).

Antihistamines also make you drowsy, which is why they are also used for very low-key, harmless sleeping pills. I took those for a while because I had trouble sleeping due to exam stress and they worked quite well for me (I also had some with Diphenhydramine).
So yeah, it's exactly the same thing and the paper that comes with the sleepy ones usually says you shouldn't take any other antihistamines on top (easier to overdose - I'm not sure how harmful it is if you do, but maybe better not try).

Benadryl is occasionally prescribed to people who have trouble sleeping. Biggest problem is that it dries people's ENT passages out.
