Greetings from a noob.

Hi people! Thought it was time to check out the forums! I'm on QC strip 820 right now, but seeing as I'm reading 100+ strips a day, I should catch up in no time!


P.S. I love Pintsize!  :-D

Hmph! If 100/day is "no time," some on the forum may have learned how to reverse time, doing an entire archive binge (a phrase I learned on this forum) in 2-3-4 days.
But 100/day is saner. I think the true binge may end for some with an unhappy crash, a realization that the events in the QC characters' lives will never move so fast again, that one webcomic per day is agonizingly slow.
You can adjust to that. Or you can go back to do another archive binge. I've done two, plus a third, the last looking for butts for my proposed "love is a passing fanny" mug.

Psh, bloody lightweight... (I was doing somewhere around 500 a day... and I sort of forgot to sleep.... I swear that I have a social life...)

Welcome to the forums sir! Pintsize is one of the more entertaining characters earlier on, but Hanners and Marigold (who I'm guessing has not been introed yet) will grow on you.  :-)

Hanners already has me hooked! Marigold, I have yet to meet. I can't wait.

I feel like such a lightweight lol, I better up my speed! Though I'm not sure how I'm going to handle a comic a day when I do catch up.  :-(

Simple! Build a time machine, clone yourself, have the clone make random updates on the QC forum under your name, and then go two years into the future.  :-D And yes, that's the only reasonable way to go about it.  :-P

I can see that.  Forgive my nerd math, but having accelerated from 100/day to 500/day in 3 days time, then decelerating from 500/day to 1/day in 1 days time = holy shit what a crash.  Maybe going at a rate of 100/day isn't that bad after all.

It may not be as fun if you just read the whole series, but the random button is good for when the new comic doesn't come fast enough.

Works for me, but I think there's a glitch in the random button, it only goes to comics before 1000 or so.  Jeph mentioned the glitch in his tumblr and probebly still hasn't gotten around to fix it.

It's been like that for years.  I even offered to correct it for him about a year ago.

I'm sure Jeph gets all sorts of offers for all sorts of things, I'm sure his inbox is getting full of offers about his video game idea.  One of the reasons I tend to avoid contacting hosts directly, I'm sure there's better things to do that read my crap.  Of course Jeph seems like a chill guy, but with as many fans as he's built he can't befriend them all.

Me, of course! No one around here is nice enough to make an extra mug. :x It's a selfish world, I tell ya.

Three is my standard for any hot beverage.. It's actually quite embarrassing to say out loud when someone else makes it for you and asks how much sugar do you take.  :-\

Coffee is too bitter without those things.  Well, I understand why milk is bad, because it's not sweet enough to offset the bitter.

Actually, too much is when you finish off the cup, look down, and see a pile of sugar on the bottom.

Depends.  Who made the coffee? 

I think it actually depends on the size of the cup, how much coffee is in the cup, and how hot the coffee is when sugar has been added.

Wow! It's hard to argue with that.
If you like adding these things, it means you like the taste of coffee with cream and sugar, and like the taste and texture of a baked potato with sour cream and cheese. I don't like the taste and bitterness of black unsweetened coffee or a plain baked potato. My morning cup is a caramel latte made with a $30 Mr. Coffee espresso maker, Starbucks Espresso Roast beans, skim milk, Apriva and sugarfree caramel flavoring. I guess it means I'm not a purist, and that I like what I like.

When I drank coffee (I was not supposed to, and am not able to any more) it depended on how strong the coffee was.  An old priest at the church I attend used to make it so strong that it tasted burnt even when fresh.  The stuff I made needed much less sugar. 

But my first tastes of coffee were at my Duetsche gramma's house, where milk ad sugar were added to make it palatable to a child.  She used an old stovetop percolator, which may have also been a factor.  Those toddler times may well have set my tastebuds to the sweet end of coffee.  I love the smell, but it doesn't taste like it smells...

Oh, and I prefer gravy on my potatoes.  Yes, even baked.

I'm more of a Filter Coffee man myself, but I do use Instant at home when I just want to make one quickly.   I'm not a big fan of things like Espresso, Capuchino et al, but if I'm in a place that doesn't have Filter Coffee  :-o  I'll order a Flat White.  Milk and two sugars please   :-D

So do I, but I tend to take or leave Gravy.  Especially if the spuds are nice and crispy and flavoured by what they are roasted in.

The same could be said about adding A1 sauce to steaks or any kind of meat, or syrup on pancakes, and mayonnaise to sandwiches.  Yes, it is arguable that I wouldn't really enjoy meat if I add A1 to it, or pancakes if I added syrup to them, or sandwiches if I prefer not to put mayonnaise on them.  However, I look at it from a chemical perspective.  Sugar and cream really don't taste good alone in my opinion, but when they're mixed with coffee, that does taste good.  Why?  Well, the chemicals that make up the flavor of coffee are not in sugar and cream, and I do like the flavor of coffee if something can cancel out the bitterness.  I mean, if I didn't like coffee, why bother wasting sugar and milk to drink it?

I subscribe to the notion you taste a steak before you season it, just to respect the person who prepared it (and see how he/she did) -- then you break out the seasonings and goop. Same with a hamburger.
Properly done, a steak needs nothing once it's on the plate. And a hamburger requires only lettuce and tomato.
Baked potatoes, however, are for experimentin'.

My wife took a course in England/Scotland in 1980 offered by a Michigan university, and discovered the "potato pub." She mused for a while after she returned about starting one in Michigan. The closest thing to it, at the time, was the potato on the menu at Wendy's. But there were dozens of ways to decorate a baked potato at those places in the U.K.

I guess the British really like their potatoes. First time I heard the term "Jacket Potato" was from a British friend. For the longest time I thought they were saying "Jack of Potatoes" because of the accent and all lol.  :lol:
