Tai should be romancing Dora, not demanding answers.

This is some truth man. Dora is a classy dame; she needs a little candlelight, a little music, a little chateau brion, and maybe a little sauvignon too. She's a fine lady who needs a little class and a lot of luurve.

Can Tai do that? Can she woo? I, for one, remain to be convinced.

  • That's a smashing blouse. FELLA!

If Tai is able to get Dora in private, even in the closet in the back or the alley where Faye talked to Angus before, in a way a straight question might be good for Dora. They both want to no drama and if the answer is, "No." it'll suck but things can  start healing. Or it'll all be awkward for the rest of ever.
Although that said even if they decide to make a go, Tai is at a very different stage of life than Dora. For one, I'm pretty sure Dora's days of getting high and watching cartoons, especially while at work, are behind her. Also Tai is currently unsure of what she wants relationship-wise, other than Dora.

Is it cold in here?

Dora has contradicted herself about whether she even likes butch girls. It would be surprising if she could come up with a definite answer.

It'd feel incredibly weird for Tai to start wooing.  Just doesn't seem her from what we've seen from her personality.

Not to mean it badly, but Tai always seemed "wam, bam, let's get down and get together".  Essentially, the HS level of wooing.  Not that it's necessarily bad, but.

I'd agree.  Dora wants to be wined and dined like what's his face did.  Joe? Jack? Can't remember with J it is.  Tai doing it would be a 180.

And to the one who said Dora has contradicted herself on butch girls, yea.  That makes this strange as well.  She "loves" butch girls, but I also seem to remember her saying she wasn't attracted to them though.  I can see Dora get tongue-tied and trying to avoid a definitive answer while Tai goes off and tries to force her hand.

Only one way to find out.

One of the many things that could go wrong is if Tai needs an LTR and Dora has a rebound relationship with her instead. On the other hand, Dora doesn't seem on board with the idea of rebound relationships(526).

I dunno about the very last panel. It's not like Marten has a vested interested in (a) seeing Dora move on to a relationship where she's clearly not necessarily all too psyched about, or (b) seeing his ex-gf hook up with his boss, when he knows that (c) his boss has a history of promiscuous flings and hook-ups on a level that he and Dora had long since moved past.

And then he says "good luck"?

I dunno. That's a level of 'chill bro' that I can't relate to, but seems inhumanly egoless and passive.

Anyway, nice cliffhanger for the weekend.

I'm almost reading that last line as a, "Well, I'm not going to be able to stop her, so might as well wish her luck" kind of statement. Not completely passive, but more along that famous quote that ends with "lie back and enjoy it".

Wow. I've seen train wrecks that were less messy than this.

Not because its Tai or Dora themselves, per se. Its Tai running off to get a straight answer from Dora. One), its the morning after, its only been a few hours since Tai's pep talk. Dora probably hasn't had that much to think about it and get her head around it, so Tai coming in the next day asking for an answer is not going to be the best way to start things off.

Two) We can discuss Dora's view of relationships until the cows come home, but we do know that she does need to get back in the saddle sooner or later. The thing is, should she be getting into a serious relationship now? Jim was one date and she realised that things felt a little weird. We know that Tai is getting tired of the one night stands with her dorm-mates and looking for a mature relationship, whether or not she is actually ready for such a relationship is also another part of it. Most, mature people in situations like that do tend to wait a full day before going off to get an answer.

Three) Tai calling Dora "wishy-washy"... Sorry but if you're interested in someone and you call them "wishy-washy" without really knowing them is really just setting things up to fail (and in all fairness, Tai doesn't really know Dora as a friend or a lover as Faye and Marten, respectively, have. All her interactions with Dora have come from group social events and environments. She has never just gone out for drinks with Dora, or gone to the movies with her or just simply hung out with her). So just Tai calling Dora "wishy-washy" after one night without an answer just smacks of an immaturity that indicates that Tai isn't really ready for a relationship.

I see the look and attitude as bemused more than anything, with maybe a twinge of "I wonder what it would be like to be that decisive." Her reaction is pretty much the exact opposite of what he would do, and he's amused but confounded by it.

Do we even know how seriously into girls Dora is? She's never actually been with a girl, has she? (Only thing I can think of on that question is Sven saying that all the guys she'd been with before Marten had treated her like shit - no mention of ever having been with a girl, IIRC.) A lot of 'bi' girls like the looks of girls and flirt with them, but can never quite make the leap into a serious relationship. Much like Tai's kinda-but-not-quite-really-poly status. Could be one of the many things feeding into Dora's hesitation, anyway.

Another good question that has been raised before.  There was speculation considering her "Coven Days" but nothing definitive.  For me, I don't think she has been in a relationship with a girl.  Mild experimentation in the coven? Maybe.  Nothing serious or hardcore I'd imagine.  Again, it'd just be a seemingly out of character swing for a QC character.  Tai seems to "want serious" and it'd be strange for Dora to get right back on the horse with a girl no less, and one that wants serious.  I never really got the impression she was actually bi and I feel we'd need some kind of back story for it to be realistic with Tai otherwise it merely will seem like "well, someone finally WANTS ME so ok" type.  Dora seems like the flirty with girls type but when it comes to do the deed, is "eeeehhhh, not really me."

As I've said, Tai's interest always seemed doomed to failure.  However, while Tai's dreams will probably crash the burn, the experience Tai showed directly should help move Dora along in that there ARE people out there that will actively go after her unlike her and Marten where it was more a product of "why not?".

If I agree'd any harder I'd have to type it in huge red letters.

There definitely seems to be a bit of Marten going "I'd never do that. I hope it actually works - ...Good Luck"

Perhaps a slight acknowledgement from him that a positive approach might be more fulfilling in life.

She fapped to Veronica Vance's porn pics back in the day. Which got her into girls apparently.

Ah yeah, forgot that one. Still a long way from an actual relationship, though.

(Man, Marten must have been using Extra Super Fluffy Hair Product on his bangs that day.)

I'll agree with this. Marten's whole attitude seems to be one of bemused acceptance. But I think Tai is royally screwing up here. As several folks have noted, Marten knows Dora better than anyone in their social circle and Tai ignored his advice to back off and give Dora some space to figure out what she wants. Tai is used to immediate gratification and seems even less experienced than Marten in monogamous relationships. Even if the full frontal assault of demanding that Dora make up her mind NOW works in the short term, it'll set a Dora/Tai relationship up for long term failure. Tai pressuring Dora will trigger her control issues in a whole different way than Marten's passivness did.

As far as I can tell, the Friday comments are still in the normal Friday position anyway.
Doesn't matter to me, I was going to vote for something in the cliffhanger anyway. :P

Re: Dora's interest in girls, and aside from the Veronica Vance thing, I have a feeling that it would be very unusual for a lady who wasn't into other ladies to do this (narm narm narm narm), and certainly not this. Veronica Vance may have started it, so to speak, but that's definitely not all there is to it.

Your first example isn't all that strange at all.  I've known very straight females do that to other females before.  They like their shampoos though.  Hell, even seen totally straight ones go for boob grabs and booty grabs as well.  All in good fun.

As for the other one, must not get out much.  Known ones that freak out like that over tats in intimate places.  Maybe not piercings, especially lady bit ones.

Still.  Until she she gets naked with another gal, I won't believe she's seriously considered booty calls with girls.  Especially having never done it before.

So no one is allowed to have a definite sexual orientation until they've actually done the physical act? Does that go for straight virgins? Using that logic, Marigold hasn't proved she's truly attracted to men yet (though she sorta came close kinda).

Why no, I don't happen to get out much. Was it that easy to tell? :-(

And I totally forgot this example, in which Dora implies (under a very thin veil) that she wouldn't mind Tai's brand of "no-strings-attached casual sex", except that it might make things weird with Marten.
So far, all evidence points to Marten not finding it weird at all.

No.  What I'm saying is that it isn't 100% known which way Dora swings because yes, she sure talks a mean game of digging the ladies and not minding some female luvin', but there has been zero evidence to really say for sure.  No heavy girl makeout session.  That's all I'm saying.

I'd agree with that.  Tai never really did it for me.  Yet, anything would feel a little dull and subdued after the epic Space Arc.  But yea, I kinda want the Tai arc to end already. I want more creepy Faye coffee makers being made.  And I miss Hanners already.

Bit too over the top?  Not really sure. She just never interested me from the get-go.  Probably more indifference than not liking her character.  She's merely been comedic relief for me so far, though not even close to the standard of Pintsize.  Which, BTW, I miss that little bugger too.

I don't think Dora's ever been with a girl seriously, but having known the kind of girl you describe, I don't think your description is at all apt.  I don't think it's impossible that she could do as well with another woman as with Marten at their best - probably not Tai, who strikes me as an interim fling at best, but another woman.

(And I don't doubt she has "gotten naked with another gal" at least once.)

Re-reading Friday's comic, I suspect Tai would have taken that course of action even if Marten didn't say anything.  She had already made her decision on what she was going to do but just wanted Marten to confirm that it was the right course of action.

Then there is also the way she cuddled Faye foir some surprise morning snuggles. It's likely Dora would turn Tai down, especially because she doesn't know why she's considering it. Although maybe she says yes to provide a twist to the comic. So basically everything could happen, including Tai getting cold feet which would be unlike her.

I still don't understand why people take Dora's wisecracks and horseplay so seriously.  Back before strip 1047, whether she was straight or bi (I recall before she hooked up with Marten, a few lost souls even thought she was a lesbian) was a perennial discussion, and people would always bring up her "hitting on" Faye, which if anything seemed like evidence against.  It still kind of does... I really don't think she wants to have sex with Faye, and certainly not while she was still with Marten.  Nor do I think there was any prurience in her "surprise snuggles" and gropes through the years; hell, I don't think she'd even be up for it if Faye asked.  It's just wisecracks and horseplay, that's all.
