For me it's when I realise I've inadvertently matched my, say, panties and scarf.

Oh for lord's sake, you've got me thinking about this: OK, I invested in some three-packs of Jockey-brand briefs, red/blue/charcoal, and occasionally wear a deep red polo shirt very close to the color of some of the briefs. I notice it, but if there's excitement, I'd have to put it in the centitwinge range. Probably there, barely measurable. And I don't think I could tell you why.

I've taken thousands and thousands of showers and I still get smelly. I must be doing something wrong.

But smelly = dirty and dirty = having fun.

I think some of the excitement comes from the fact that you've bought items in different places and/or at different times and they look like they MATCH, like, you put effort into matching! And I do like to be sure my clothing matches/goes well together.

My boyfriend, on the other hand, will wear a plaid button-down shirt with athletic shorts and sport flip-flops. But then picks on me for having only one or two matching bra and panty sets.

I have one matching set of underwear and bra that are actually a set. I'll wear the bra with whatever underwear, because I only have 3 bras that fit right now, but the matching undies are only worn with that bra. I feel like I should have bought more of the underwear...

It's tough for me to find bras in my size, but easy to find panties despite my giant ass. So I have... nine bras of the exact same brand and style, in different colors. Two more in a different style for when I wanna look like I have boobs. And then I have about a bazillion pairs of panties in all sorts of colors and styles. I can of course match black with black, but I have only one true matching set.

I love the magically matching thing too.

Re: Bras/Panties-

I have a ton of both, but mainly because I have some bizarre issue with throwing out stuff that is uncomfortable and/or just plain....wrong. I used to wear thongs all the time and I have a bunch of really cute ones but they've really bugged me lately. Still, I just can't get rid of them because I think that I might change my mind and want them and then have to go out and spend money that I don't have.

Bras are a pain in the ass. I find one that I think might work and then wear it all the time and then it decides to be an asshole and fall apart. I bought one six months ago that was awesome....until I realized that the thread holding the straps on was coming undone and the cups had given up on doing any work. There is a permanent bend in the underside, I blame it on cheap construction and heavy boobs. Victoria's Secret bras are the only one that don't fall apart on me or have other weird issues (wonky underwire, twisty straps, etc) but they're so fucking expensive it's ridiculous. So yeah, even though I own 15 or so, I rotate between 3 or 4, not counting "special" bras.

Victoria's Secret doesn't carry my bra size in their stores. Just online. So eff them! I go to Cacique, which actually has a decent selection and has quality bras. Also they usually have a lot of sales revolving around getting one half-off or free.

Neither place carries bras in my size. Apparently not many people are fat with small boobs? Generally I go to Fashion Bug but now they're going out of business so who knows what I'll do.

As for socks, I used to just wear the first two socks I found in the drawer. I had all novelty socks with weird prints and characters. But then I had to be on my feet and sweating all day so I got all black sport socks of varying lengths which basically matched each other. And now I need special socks for work since I have to dress nice, so I have to put in the time to find them and make sure they match my outfit and so on.

I have to get bras from expensive specialist shops because I am not a normal ratio, and I can't afford to have lots - at the moment I have two that fit, one being my sports bra, and two that sort of fit so I wear them when I need a backup. I've only had a matching set of underwear once in my life! I don't even wear pyjama sets because the tops are always too small if the bottoms fit.

I get mine at Cacique, but if my cup size goes up I will size out of them.  This is my only real motivation to lose weight.  Their bras are pretty nice, but they always break in the same spot for me, and frequently when the rest of the bra still sees quite nice.  The underwire, usually on the left side, breaks about 1/3 of the way down from my arm pit.  I don't know id this is a weak spot in their bras, or if I do something weird that they just can't take.

If the rest of the bra is sound, you can buy underwire from most sewing stores, like JoAnn Fabrics and what not. I don't know how much that will solve, but it'd be cheaper than buying an entire new bra.

Option two would be to go get some steel rod from Home Depot, and bend it to suit. At least it'd be sturdy  :psyduck:

I hear this complaint ALL THE TIME, especially in the trans community (where it's not uncommon for people looking for, say 44A bras).

I don't have a hard time finding bras (36C is a pretty easy size to find, or find something that fits), I just never wear them. If anything, I'm usually wearing something that compresses everything.

It depends for me....I hate buying them online because I never know if they'll fit but I buy online occasionally because all the cute bras in store are all B cups. But then I feel like their sizing is inconsistent. I've found well fitting bras in any combination of D/DD, 36-38. (Not just in VS actually....when I get desperate for a new one and I have no cash, I head to Target of Kmart and have the same problems.) I've come across some 36D bras that are bigger than a 38DD in another brand. The last time I went bra shopping I was out for an hour and a half and left empty handed. Everything either doesn't fit well, is ugly or is just....way too much bra. I'll find ones that stick out of my top but yet still don't cover the sideboob spillage.

Anyone know a good place that does fittings? I thought about getting one at VS but a friend of mine went for one and was told that her 36Bs were 34Ds.

I know Cacique does and they hit the nail on the head for me. (38DD and I'd been buying 40D beforehand. It was a magical experience, finding a comfortable bra that FIT.) I've had them at department stores before, too, and I guess they were correct, but that was a loooong time ago when I didn't really know how a bra was supposed to fit. I would recommend getting fit at a place that you would trust the employees to know what they're doing or get fittings at a few places and see what the consensus seems to be.

Style seems to have a huge impact on sizing. A 40C in a balconette style fits way different from a 40C in a t-shirt bra style. And I'd still say to go to VS for a fitting. Ask for the measurements they took, along with the size they say you are, and go home and look it up online. That will tell you if they got it right. But also know that sometimes you can fudge the sizing. For example, I am supposed to wear a 42B. This is difficult to find. So, I can usually make a 40C work, which is super comfortable and actually makes me look like I have boobs. If I wanted something a little looser I could do a 44A, but of course that is even more difficult to find.

In other words, you can go down a band size and up a cup size, or up a band size and down a cup size. Of course how well it fits all depends on the cut and style and their sizing and blah blah blah. This is why I found one style that fits me and bought a million of them.

I've never bought any bra without being properly fitted for it, and I don't believe I've ever bought two the same size on different occasions.

I got sized at Fredrick's once. I got a bra of their in that size that was on sale, and the stupid thing still didn't fit. Then again, it was a type that had more padding on the underside than most bras do.

The thing is that you have to be fitted for every bra - unless it is exactly the same brand, style and even colour as one you were fitted for about a month ago. And your breasts can change size during your menstrual cycle, so one that fitted one week might be too tight the next.

I've actually never had a fitting before.  :-o Typically, I just went for what "felt right". I feel weird about getting sized but not because "oh, hey you're looking at me half naked" but because I sweat so damn much and it grosses me out to think of anyone near my armpits.

Perhaps it's time to suck it up and deal. haha

...........I would also thoroughly enjoy an underwear thread.

I've actually never been stripped down for a fitting. As long as the shirt you're wearing isn't two sizes too big or anything like that, they usually just measure through the clothes. Or at least, in my experience.

There was a bra store at the mall (for about 5 minutes) where I got fitted originally, and I just keep buying the same brand & style wherever I can find it, but the fancier department stores like Nordstrom's will do fittings for you too.

Lookit me, starting threads unbeknownst to my mental mind.

If anyone needs super amazing awesome socks try sockdreams.com. They even have stockings for bigger people.

Also I am sad that Walmart changed their novelty underwear brand. They used to have the best bikini undies, and they went on super sale after every holiday, so I have a million pairs of Halloween undies.

I approve so hard of this answer. But yeah - I either wear a push-up bra or a binder, depending on how I feel like presenting that day.

(I'd say if I feel like presenting male or female, but I get read female either way. That's where the beard comes in...)

Sock Dreams is pretty great. I'm also fond of Rocknsocks, and sock it to me socks.

95% of my underwear of all kinds, socks, panties, bras are black. It doesn't make it as easy to match things as you think since some stuff gets worn or washed more so a lot of different shades of black. Bras are the most varying for colour for depending on what top I'm wearing.

Blackness: For years, I wore two brands wool socks, mostly black, some navy, to work. Some faded, naturally or with the help of some inadvertent bleach. Most of the lights in the house were incandescent, and I found that once upstairs in the bedroom, two floors over the laundry, it was hard to match pairs. But down in the laundry, black and navy socks on top of white dryer, under cool fluorescents, it was easy most of the time.

This thread reminded me I am long overdue for buying some new knickers. Just back from the shop where I've bought them a bunch before (multipacks for cheap, but they do the job and last well) and I couldn't find black any where. The only solid colour I could find was white, the rest were all fashion types with patterns, ribbons, buttons and pictures, mostly of children's cartoon characters and that seems plain off to me.

Stripy boxers are where it's at,

That said since this a question of underwear, Whats the female appeal of male boxers? I see why they're comfy for a male but not a female..

Anyone care to explain?

Hate boxers. Never wear them.
