I wasn't saying the lack of face-to-face interaction made it easier for one side or the other, I just was wondering how such a huge part of the game being lost was compensated.

If anything, the lack of face to face contact actually drives up the paranoia of the games. You can see little hints in a person's face, the subconscious movements their bodies make, and its those little things that can give someone away. Here though, all you have is what a person says. There are no subtle clues to tell you if they're lying. So facing that, you can become really paranoid, especially in games where several villagers have died and none of the killers have been touched.

I always assumed those subtle clues were the point (in that a good chunk of the fun is trying to read people to see if they're hiding something), but I suppose one's mileage/kilometrage* may vary.

*Probably not a word.

Ha, this whole conversation started because I wanted to and found out about it a day too late. I fully intend to partake in Mafia 7.

We could start a list for anyone who wants a PM notice when a mafia game signup thread is started, if that's something people want.

Honestly, I just almost never came over to Chatter, which has changed somewhat recently, so I'll probably see it next time. I'd still appreciate the PM though.

My theory is people don't want to kill in a game that is won by killing people. :P

That's certainly a big part of it!  :-D But I think a number of us have been harping on about that for a while.

No I can't, which is part of the problem. I think there's a fine difference between bloodlust and being willing to break a couple of eggs to make a good omelette. Maybe if more people were on board with that idea, there'd be less hesitance against actually lynching suspects from the get-go.

And now for some reason I feel like I'm using that omelette idiom incorrectly.  :psyduck:

@Cesium - I'm trying to post my thoughts about mafia in general without actively influencing this specific game in any way. Yell at me if you think I cross the line at any point and I'll correct accordingly. Or shut up altogether until game end.

This reminds me: it might also be best to start with a clean slate every time instead of pointing fingers at people who used to be a bad guy. I made jokes about Gareth desecrating my body from the horror game and you were attacking me based on my being the werewolf king a long time ago. It's largely irrelevant and I see it happen in almost all of our games. Maybe we should try not doing that either and just look at what we're given.

Especially since it might make people who weren't in older games feel left out.

you were attacking me based on my being the werewolf king a long time ago.

See, that one went completely over my head. Had I known this, I might have been not so quick to lynch J, because now I could only assume they were "spouting nonsense" and accusing Linds out of nowhere.

So I am completely in favor of starting with a clean slate (otherwise I would already be lynched as the sole survivor of the last game.) We should still be able to make judgments on people based on their argumentation style from past games, though (ie: "X is usually level-headed and not quick with lynchings. I wonder what makes them accuse everyone left and right this time.") Such trails of thought have the "advantage" of being ambiguous, because hey, they might be just trying a new "character".

You did a much stronger job of muddying the waters than I thought your team would be able to pull off. Well played! I *definitely* have questions once the game is over, but I'll wait.

As a bystander, it only takes a couple of breaks for the good guys to win.

It also takes a couple of bad breaks for them to lose, too, though.

I agree with Linds, BTW, I think at least half of the suspicion against me is based on the previous games, which given that I play a new character every game was kind of annoying me. I deliberately roleplay in some way in these things, I don't really play as 'Gareth.'

Now to figure out the rest.
