A brand new week.

(EDIT: Jeph is actually adding two more guest strips over the weekend of November 10-11. This guy REALLY rocks.)

"It's a brand new day, the sun is high,..."

Of course Jeph can come back whenever he wants to/is feeling better. It's really sad that this has happened during an arc that he was excited about. We will presumably have guest strip on Monday? Either way, looking forward to Jeph's recovery and eventual continuation of the arc. So far, only Marten has seen Marigold's bikini and his reaction was one of sheer embarrasment. It will be interesting to see how the other characters react.

I think we might also see a bit of friction for Tai/Dora, though I couldn't say which one will be annoyed.  My initial thought was Dora, but Tai is so deeply infatuated with her that I can see the reaction being more like Marten's back when he'd just gotten together with Dora, and that girl tried to flirt with him at the library.  And Dora isn't that attached (yet?), and even a momentary slip on her part is likely to be noticed (and overinterpreted) by Tai.

I think his eyes will tell more of what's going on in his head...or, his hand will run amok, and Hanners will remotely shut it down with her hereditary techno-wizard skills.

There's plenty of opportunity for ... nuance ... in a Tai-Dora reaction to Marigold. Dora, remember, was fascinated by Marigold's Homeric attributes, and Tai did offer to show Mari her butt, just for calibration purposes.

Jeph tweeted that he's looking forward to getting back to work. I hope for new comics but I hope he doesn't start one second before it's good for him to do so.

Next: Marigold asks for a waterproof plastic bag so she can play video games in the lake.

Presumably she already has a waterproof covering for her Nintendo DS (or whatever the portable gaming system is these days), so she can play video games in the shower.

Now that you mention it...

I started laughing out loud as soon as Station mentioned emotional maturity. I'm having trouble even thinking of a bit character or one-off character who would qualify.

I liked Hannelore's response to "emotional maturity" as being a Venus fly trap. But as IICIH pointed out, there's slim pickings in her social circles.

And as much I would like to see Jeph back, I don't want it to be before he's got his head (and indirectly his hand) back in order. No sense in coming back if you ain't ready...

Well they have the emotional maturity to enter into a relationship with another - the question is do they have the emotional maturity to sustain it?

Nah, she'll go outside. She'll get DAAAAANNNG'd, feel awkward, and go back to playing games in the house.

I mean, I hope that doesn't happen (except, maybe for the getting danged), but it seems plausible.

I think I was about 11 when, having done some electrical soldering (little radio shack kits and such), my dad asked if I'd like to learn to solder a pipe.  Of course, that was just a propane torch, not a welding torch... but if the kid's big enough, supervised, and safety's taught with it, why not?

1: A zebra was introduced to FIM, and she was basically a Magical Negro who performed a parody of vodun.
2: These are two characters from Adventure Time who are frequently (and not entirely unreasonably) shipped.  The creators themselves got in on the game in a web-only promotional video, and the network panicked.
3: Uh... I don't know.

I like Spike's comic Templar AZ, but I really just don't get this - anybody able to give me a clue?

To elaborate on what NL said...

1. The zebra was, upon introduction, irrationally feared and hated by the other ponies because she appeared mysterious and lived in a dangerous forest. None of them had ever tried speaking to her before. Prejudgement yay :D (except not.)

2. This is also a reaction every (fem)slash pairing ever has gotten. The shippers often have a knee-jerk reaction to people who simply don't get that ship, accusing them of being homophobic. Not all (fem)slash shippers do this, but the ones that do make the ones that don't look bad ._.

3. Vurogj was right in saying this is a Team Fortress thing. I don't know enough about the games to understand it well, but from what I can gather, perhaps shipping is overshadowing the game itself?

I play TF2 and I didn't recognize the third comic until it was pointed out here. Even now that I do recognize it (the Scout is particularly obvious), I still don't really understand the punchline. I guess there's a lot of homoerotic fanfic? I'm clearly not involved deeply enough in the fandom, because I'm completely lost despite playing the game on a fairly regular basis.

I think that last one is supposed to be a whack at shippers in QC-land.

I don't think so - it sounds a lot like the spewings from tumblr (what thread was that discussed in?  I think it was in chatter?) that would also lead to comics like the ones Pintsize is selling.  After all, only an entitled parasite would spend all day on the internet telling anyone who would listen why they can't do anything productive, in cryptic neologisms that are as contradictory as they are impenetrable, then scream "homophobe" at illogical same sex shippings or "racist" at ponies.

...and I also think that, given some of the comments I've read on her comics, Spike (the artiste) has some of the same issues with internet denizens that Jeph does.

So I don't think it's aimed at these forums, which have become one of the nicer neighborhoods on the internet, but rather at the kind of place these forums may once have been, and what many of the unregulated corners of the internet (like tumblr) have become - cesspools, gathering the effluvia of human discourse.
