I'm bad. Instead of sticking up for Momo's basic dignity, now I'm wondering what really happens when you push her nose.

What do you mean "really?" Guest comics are canon. Pressing Momo's nose allows for Disco Parties. And Marten cut off his face so that Pintsize could try to pick up women at a bar.

So that means Pizza Girl is Hanners, dead, and soon to be married to Marten.

I'm not sure if you missed my sarcasm or if you're adding to it. :psyduck:

"Support" is sufficiently vague to include all those who thought it was a good idea and said as much.

Faye-and-Sam is a nice MOW option, as is Momo the disco light, Emily the pathologically curious (x2), "You couldn't afford me, baby," "I'm-a buy a hat with a feather," "More housefly?""Yes, please," and "See? Not as easy as it seems." My favorite moment-candidates from the Forumite comic would be "Whatcha readin'?", Pintsize's lines and Winslow's line, along with Marigold's OP speech. Handelore's a moment-option, too. We got lots of chances for fun.

Once again, my favourite bit is the $1.98 Drill Press.

Clearly Harbor Freight is having a sale.    :-D

BTW:

Million Dollar Belt Sander refers to a factory machine I used to run years ago.       If you ever notice,  much stainless steel has a "brush finish" kind of like wood grain.

Well,  the machine is basically a water-cooled belt-sander mounted over a rubber belt.   It drags the sheet-metal under the spinning belt and the water keeps the metal cool.    Sheet comes out the other side and we repeat the process over and over until we get a real fine finish.

We had a clankity-clank version of the machine that made that finish pattern on stainless panels for various products we produced.    The owner decided that he needed to upgrade... which he did.    He ended up spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the finest imported metal-sanding machine,     and the exotic sand-paper and "cooling fluid" for the machine.

After running it six months it developed all kinds of faults, failures and glitches due to that superior European Engineering.    Well that had nothing to do with it it had to do with OUR company politics twords cleaning and upkeep... but anyway it shit the bed in the worst way and had to be rebuilt TWICE while I ran it.

In the end,  they spent OVER a million dollars on a fancy belt-sander that was less reliable than a fire-damaged Renault at the bottom of the River Charles.

The irony is the company I migrated to after I got tired of the politics had a much simpler and more user-friendly finishing machine,  which is still running at peak condition despite being 30 years old.

I find the concept of spending that much money on a machine that never worked as promised and broke down more than a 1 legged horse towing the space shuttle across Canada to be utterly absurd.    I adopted the name as a reminder of whole episode and the lessons it taught me.

This kind of story has always been a 'type' for me... I'm sure lots of people have stories about machines which have gone strong for decades, only to be replaced by something which is brand new and shiny, but breaks down mere months later.
But this story is by far the best variant I've heard.

I've seen it way too many times over the years.

The machines I own range from 20 to 70 years old,  I have very few "new" machines in my workshop.

I used to work in newspaper layout with a guy who complained we were behind a few versions on our layout and photo programs; he did love the bells and whistles they had to play with at his previous paper (that laid him off to save money). Meanwhile, the guy who worked next to him (not me) was creating works of newspaper art with our ten-year-old programs. I've always saved my greatest admiration for the people who do the most with the fewest shiny objects.

Skill in using what you have is a nice thing. But if you purposely use a program that has you jump through hoops to get stuff done that a better program could do in seconds it just looks like you're trying to show off, not get the task done.

How did you know I know German?

No program could do what the second guy was doing, trust me.
Since I wasn't there I believe you that.

What I'm trying to say is... take a guy who does paintings in paint. While it certainly is impressive what he does, there's no reason for him to use paint instead of a superior program. If he used a better program, he would still be an incredibly talented guy, only difference being that he doesn't artificially make it harder on himself.

Or to use a quote myself "It's not the tools that make the master" but if you have the option, why make it harder on yourself than necessary?

Well, the point I was trying to make was that the second guy would put all his creativity and knowledge of how to communicate graphically into a design or a graphic that was often beautiful in its simplicity and ease of readability, while conveying a great deal of information. A program can't do that for you.

The first guy would just add every bell and whistle the program would let him add, and his graphics were usually unreadable. As he was the boss of the operation, there was only so much any of us could do to stop him, as much as we wanted to when his main creative contribution was a headline that was either a pun on the name of the main person in the story, a sexual innuendo or both. If it had anything to do with the story, it was a happy accident. A program can't save you from that.

Generally, Riccostar, I post the new WCDT on Sunday night/morning (US time), depending on when I get the chance to get to the computer.

This week's a bit of an exception, due to the "bonus" strips.
