Whether someone liked the game's storytelling is up to them. And I don't really care about gameplay mechanics as much as story in games that I play. So no, not really.

Yeah, I still cannot fathom why anybody would play a GTA game for their generally lackluster and uninteresting characters and story. Like, when they were all like "we're going to have a story about three different people!" I realized that they had no fucking clue why their games are engaging whatsoever.

I guess they wanted to differentiate themselves from the latest Saint's Row games, but I think Saints Row is really about capturing why people would play GTA games and cutting away all of the dead meat, so that might've been a bad idea.

Well for one thing, because I thought the characters and story in most of Red Dead Redemption were fantastic, and they made that more recently than GTA IV.

Gareth, I finally got time to actually read and give some thought to the list you created earlier.  My response is in the spoiler box below.

Please bear in mind when reading it that I don't think you're wrong for your opinion.  At all.

(click to show/hide)

I guess that's about all I got for the list you created.  A lot of what bothered you bothered me, and I already responded specifically to the torture scene - which was reprehensible - so I left that out of this list.  In the end, though I still like the game overall, and I'm enjoying myself immensely in the online world they've created.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey man these things are all about preference, so I totally get you disagreeing with me on some points. I like that you've managed to pick out some other parts of it that I also didn't like and forgot to mention!

I agree there are times where I could see WHY things were done, but it didn't mean I didn't hate them.

Hey, like you said, all about preference.  I can respect that people are different from me, and that's cool.  I don't blame you a bit for getting rid of the game if it made you feel that way.

The flashing screens you get for having a killstreak or losing streak in deathmatches are the most annoying fucking thing ever. The flashing orange killstreak screen especially makes it impossible to see.

So, kind of random...

I normally don't play this game with my headset on, unless I'm playing with friends/crew members, and then I'm in a party with them so we're the only ones talking to each other.  The other night, I left my headset on, and it was just me, in the general population of the game room.  I left my mike muted, so no one knew I was even there.

Holy shit.  I've never heard the likes of it, and I've been gaming on xbox live for a while now.  The teenage (and probably preteen) profanity, the racial slurs, the constant barrage of gay slurs...  I'm no newbie, I've been around, but damn I have never heard it this condensed, and this concentrated.  I swear some of the people in the room didn't know a word that wasn't a curse word.

An example:  "Fuck shit ni**a, fuck you!"

I guess...  I mean, he used the word 'you'.  I'm not averse to profanity.  I was a sailor, and as such, have been known to curse like one.  But my mind is a little blown when you no longer attempt to make actual sentences, but just fall back to almost every word a curse word.

I don't think I'll be doing that again any time soon.

I stopped playing online because as it got more popular, it became more open to assholes.

When I was playing TFC and CS1.5/1.6 in the late 90s/early 00s, there was always your share of cheats and dickheads but servers were generally run with their own rules, admins and mods, and the dickheads and cheats were a minority, not a majority. I even got to mod some of the myself, but modern games are just a nightmarish free-for-all. Sure you can vote to kick, but when 75% of the people in the game are calling everyone 'faggot' anyway, no-one's going to get kicked.

You know, I think that's because servers have gotten so decentralized. There's no sense of authority, no sense of familiarity when you join a game now.

Three years ago I used to play on a Team Fortress 2 server called Knights Social Club. It was a very active, very vocal server, with a huge amount of regulars. People were generally abiding to rules, and when they didn't, the hand of god came down and muted/kicked/banned, etc. It was insane amounts of fun, I spent 500 hours of playing there, even moderating at some point. That was the best online gaming experience I ever had (until Knight, the admin, turned into a huge douche and the server fell apart).

Team Fortress 2 seems to have a pretty nice player community - at least I find that there's very little cursing and stuff thrown around. Biggest problem the game has is that 80% of the servers out there are bullshit. For every player on a real map, there's 20 on 2Fort, 30 on some Orange map, and 200 on something that's not even team fucking fortress.

If you're looking for a nice TF2 server, Grumpy Old Gits is nice when it's got players on (usually UK afternoon).

You can. The barber in Rockford Hills has different hairstyles. I made him look pretty badass by making him bald with a handlebar mustache (you have to sign up for the Rockstar site for the 'stache though)

Typically, if you sign up for the Rockstar Social club, you then download an update and you get a free car, and some other content.  It's not that bad a deal really.  I was already a member from LA Noir days so it just carried over for me.  Some neat perks for signing up, and it's free, so it's not bad.

My new truck, after the new update yesterday.

I got one too. It's fun for car-crushing and off-roading, but it has the turning radius of a tractor-trailer.

No.

I'm honestly not sure then.  Does it only go to empty rooms every time?  That's a hell of a thing.

@94ssd - yeah, but got better with the upgrades.  The only thing I couldn't upgrade fully was the engine, because I still need to win some races in that class.  But it sure is fun to roll around in when I'm driving to missions and such.
