Mafia - Big Village
« on: 26 Nov 2012, 05:49 »

Death is stalking the village you all have been calling home. Corpses with many a bullet hole lined the streets for several agonizing weeks until what small number of you villagers left decided to take action. No longer will the scum that calls themselves the mafia have their way with you all! It has been decided from this day onward that once a day, people will lynch a person they suspect to be part of the mafia. Of course, popular vote will determine who gets this gruesome fate.

However, the mafia wishes to eliminate the village and use the land for their own nefarious purposes. Once a night, these criminals in the shadow will meet up in order to determine which person shall die.

With the lines drawn, who will weather out this storm?

Rules
1. Days will last for 48 hours or a player receives more votes than half the number of players still alive to get lynched
2. Nights will last for 24 hours. Roles which require PMing the host to select their target have to do so by this time frame else they don't target anyone. Should you have a role which can target a player and wish not to use it, simply have "ABSTAIN" as the title for the PM.
3. Roles of people who die will be revealed.
4. Unless you are a member of the masons or mafia, chatting is restricted to this thread during the day.
5. No posting is to occur in this thread during the night except by the GM(me for those who didn't know that).
6. Once a player posts in this thread, that post cannot be edited or deleted.
7. Lynch votes should be in bold.
8. Dead men tell no tales (no dead players can post in the game thread)

Player List:
01. idontunderstand (mason)
02. dr. nervioso
03. Patrick (cop)

08. J (doctor)
09. Gareth

Villagers get no extra ability
Goons are the mafia equivalent of villagers
The Godfather is a mafia member who checks out as clean to the cop

Well, then, I suppose we have to pick someone to lynch...

I'm wondering how exactly some of these roles (like cop or doc) work, but I guess we'll find out.  Can they "out" themselves to the villagers, or is that not allowed?  Seems like they're public servants...

Ooo, this has a lot more special roles than I've played with before, this should be interesting! I've only ever seen mafia, cop/sheriff, doctor, and village idiot (compulsive liar).

Any player in the game can claim any role at any time. Whether they'll be believed is another matter entirely. Of course, if you reveal yourself as X role, don't be surprised if the Mafia come to visit you that night to "discuss" any "grievances" with you.

For example, you could say, "I am ALL of the roles!" but that would most likely create a paradox and you'd have to both lynch and murder yourself at the same time. Dun dun dun!

Question for clarification - are we lynching someone before a player is murdered OR are you having the mafia kill someone and then we vote for lynchings?

It's all up to you guys. You can all vote No Lynch now, and end the Day, letting the Mafia spill first blood during the Night, or you can gamble and try to lynch a Mafia guy within the next approximately 48 hours by drawing each other out and trying to figure out who is acting shady.

For now, initiative is with the villagers.

Quote from: what I was going to type, but was too slow
It's day 1, so the lynching is first.  The mafia murders "discussions of grievances" happen at night.  At least, that's the way I read it.

So, who we gonna lynch?  (I'm excited!)

I'm still excited, but I think waiting might be a good strategy.

Really wanna lynch somebody, though.   :-(

If you really want to lynch somebody but don't want to off an as yet of unproven innocence player, why not lynch someone not even playing the game? That way, everybody wins!

Except the lynched person.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have determined who the vigilante is...

or maybe the insane cop.

Whichever.

Idontunderstand, "Unless you are a member of the masons or mafia, chatting is restricted to this thread during the day", and since we need to vote on who/whether to lynch today, it has to be done in this thread.

Wait, are you mafia?  Maybe we know who to lynch today after all...     :psyduck:

How are lynchings performed nowadays anyway? In Sweden we have this fine tradition involving icy lakes and wolves.. let me know your opinions.

That is Bear Belmares, a Mexican American piercer based in Austin. He had 5 1/2" lobes last I checked. He's had to re-stretch them a couple of times due to having to remove the jewelry for open heart surgery a couple of times. Of course that's stretching them back up from like, the 3" they shrunk down to.

First 24 hours complete! We have three votes for no lynching, one for lynching this Bear person. 8 votes is majority, so the quicker we vote, the quicker we get to some bloodletting tonight.

Yes, that's the right PM, but it's only for roles that can use PM to communicate and decide who to target - I think that's just the mafia and the masons.

Zingo Unicorn, I think votes only count if they're in bold - otherwise, it's just discussion.

Ackblom12, I was guessing his name had to be bear... only way it could have been a joke that no one would get! But yeah, that's not the same as "getting it".

We can make a noose from a few chainsaws and hook 'em up to an engine!

That'd make for a pretty interesting lynching.

You are not killing people on the basis of a court of law with evidence and suchlike - you are using rumour and guesswork to decide that someone is a baddy to be killed.  In these circumstances lynching is the appropriate word, or simply murder if you want to be a tad more genteel.

I think he was punning on grisly, but with gristle.

When he chews you up.

And "murder" is what the mafia's going to be doing - we need to distinguish ourselves from them.  I have no problem with the term lynching, in the game.  As pwhodges points out, it's appropriate.  But if you prefer a euphemism, may I recommend "taking out back"?  As in, "I vote we take X out back".
