RIP Roger Ebert
« on: 04 Apr 2013, 12:57 »

Two days ago, Roger Ebert posted this blog, informing his readers that his cancer had returned, and he would be taking a "leave of presence". He wouldn't be leaving, he'd just be scaling back his reviews, and delegating more. He wrote of his intentions to make a new website, to write many more reviews, blogs and essays. It is not a blog post of a man who knows he is about to die. In some ways, that makes his death even harder to take, but in others, it's comforting that he remained optimistic until the end.

I didn't always agree with Ebert's reviews, but I almost always enjoyed reading them. You will be missed, Roger.

Roger Eberts reviews were pretty amazing to read. This was a man devoted to watch and write about movies. His reviews always confirmed my passion about the medium.
He also taught me the meaning of confirmation bias, and helped me stop seeking it.

Bummer to see you go.

If his tombstone doesn't read: "Suck it Siskel, I beat your ass!"  I'll be very disappointed.

I kid.  I never really had a lot of respect for the man, but I guess I respected the work?  He was polarizing at times, and I guess you have to be when giving your opinion for a living.

See you big man.

It will probably have a thumbs up carved into it.

If not, I will be disappointed.

My film studies professor was pretty choked up about it. The man was dedicated to his profession I'll give him that.
