"56°?! / IT'S FUCKING ...ALRIGHT / AND THUNDERING / FUCKING NOTHING TO SEE HERE"

Currently watching the Gary England show. One of the anchors described the sound of the hail in Oklahoma City as "an elephant dancing on the roof."

Another quote from Gary England (the weather guy on the CBS station in OKC): "Alex, you're going to get blown in about half an hour."

Yet another quote: "If you're new to Oklahoma, this is a severe thunderstorm."

80's the last couple of days. Mushrooms are popping and the turtles have started to move around. I found these two while mushroom hunting last night. Not sure what was going on but the upright  one was giving me the evil eye like it was time for me to just move along because they were busy.

I also found one of the largest mushrooms I've ever picked:

You don't have giant puffballs in your area, then?  I used to pick them, and one medium-sized puffball was enough for several people, sliced like bread and fried in butter.

Wow... where do those things grow? I don't think I've seen those before. As for the mushroom Boiled Dove posted, I've picked mushrooms around that size, though ones that big are pretty rare.

We had 80 degree F weather around here yesterday, then it rained hard last night (first thunderstorm in a long while).

It's down in to the 50's now. That storm that's screwing around with OK is supposed to head up this way and - get ready for this - give us some $|\|@\/\/ showers tomorrow morning.

After a really rainy weekend it is now sunny and getting up to the upper 70s. At least for a few days until it rains for the weekend again.

The tornado passed about ten miles north of where I am. It's kind of weird hearing about places I've been to lots of times being completely destroyed. Hoping not a lot of people were hurt, but it looks really awful.

Yeah, I live in Norman, near the University of Oklahoma campus. I'm currently at the lab in the basement of the physics building at OU.

Looking at the radar it looks like another severe (but non-tornadic) storm is coming this way.

Tornadoes are one of my biggest fears.  I grew up in an area that didn't have them, and watching tv coverage of them growing up made a lasting impression.

We live in Michigan now, and so are on the edge of the alley, and last year one hit near here.  It was not that bad, but when the sirens when off I almost shit myself.  I had to drive *toward* the storm because my class was not canceled and I needed to do a presentation, and I don't think I have ever had to talk myself down from a panic attack like that.  I just cannot imagine the hell that is the fist of god just punching your town.

Stay safe.

Yeah, tornadoes creep me out, too. I grew up in Maryland, which gets very few tornadoes, but an F4 went through my hometown in 1998. The people around here are more accustomed to it and less likely to worry, but to some extent that's a bad thing. It makes people less likely to get to cover when a tornado happens.

To give everyone who hasn't checked them out an idea, you can usually see the path a tornado takes through a town. In this case, this isn't a path so much as just a flattened town.

My room in the new place has a lovely huge window and it means when it rains I can see it so perfectly. It's only raining on gardens and suburban homes and trees, but for some reason I just love this view.

80+ F for two days (pushing 30C), now it's about 45 F (7 C) with storms threatening but not arriving.  Should be 60's F (low 20's C) and sunny for the holiday weekend.  Which is good, since my daughter planned a big cookout...

Tomorrow: Sunny, 84.

This is bizarre, even for the Berkshires.

It's looking like the tornado is going to miss where my apartment is to the south, though I'm a bit worried about hail. I've already had to have my car's windshield fixed once this year.

I think the dean of the university's meteorology school may have been a bit hungry when he wrote this:

Quote
After our lesson on cooking potatoes eventually panned out across central and eastern oklahoma last evening, today we get to the meat.

All of the weather seasonings that Oklahoma has to offer will be marinading our atmosphere during the day today, including a late season cold front and that dry rub of a dry line out west. A potent storm system will approach Oklahoma from the west this evening, and where these ingredients meet, there will likely be a grill fest of dangerous severe weather, including the possibility of flooding rains, very large hail (maybe softballs, and not the WCWS kind!), and large and violent tornadoes.
Quote
After the dry rub marinade, the atmosphere will likely pour a lot of sauce on the storms today, and localized flooding will be a problem this evening and tonight!

There's currently a tornado on the ground headed toward the OKC airport, and if it continues on that path, Moore would be next... this looks like it might get bad.

edit -- The tornado has taken a turn toward the north and looks like it's at least going to miss Moore.

Am I a bad person if when I saw the predicted tornado path I thought, "Dammit, I'm scheduled to fly out of that airport on Monday."? Probably.

edit -- this situation is getting REALLY bad... west part of Norman is in a tornado warning right now.

edit -- HIDEY HOLE TIME

edit -- I'm okay. A funnel cloud went straight over central Norman, but didn't touch town.

Loki, you clearly have never been at the Turkish Mediterranean coast in summer :)

Air conditioning is for weaklings*

*and also for those who really really need it. But that's up for interpretation.

1 am. 20° C ~= 68 F.

Same here. Also very humid, and the strongest thunderstorm I've experienced here in at least 5 years. Usually we just get a bit of distant lightning and it's over. Now we're at hour 3 of constantly flashing skies.

bahahaha it was around 80 F here today (26 C) and I did way too much physical labor both inside and out. And I walked home, carrying two window fans. It was torturous.

Air conditioning is for weaklings

Then I am weak as fuck and proud of it.
