From my understanding, you can legally buy marijuana from someone licensed to sell it because the state can collect tax on it. So buying it in a shop is legal, but buying it from a dealer (who will not be doing anything tax related) is not legal. Possession is legal (I guess?) but possession with intent to sell is not.

Granted, I don't live in a state where it's legal, so I am pulling this out of my ass and might possibly be completely wrong.

"Possession with intent to sell" is such a bullshit charge. You could be carrying a tensack (a very small amount, even here in California) and they could nail you for it because it's a small enough amount to be considered distribution-ready. Basically it's just a backdoor into getting you a higher sentence no matter how much you may be carrying.

Here's an actual blog post instead of me bitching about weed laws.

It just occurred to me within the hour that the one public place in town that meets the most prerequisites for "Troubador and friends throwing a massive all-ages show at home" also happens to employ 3 of my good friends. It's the Round Table Pizza on my end of town. Huge place, easily over 1000sq.ft of floor space for customers alone, plus a nook in the back that is perfectly sized for up to a 5-piece. Having finally put 2 and 2 together, I texted the one with the most seniority and asked him. I hope to hear back soon!

last night I met an old friend at the bar, because she and her boyfriend are visiting from where they now live in Oregon. I don't see those two enough. I love them so very much and it breaks my heart a little how I almost never see them anymore.

I also ran into a girl who Matt asked out once. She said yes, and he was really excited because he'd come to like her over the course of running into her and talking to her every so often. They went out, and she dropped the bomb on him that she had a boyfriend, and that she only went out with him because she was mad at said boyfriend. Anyway, so I had forgotten why I recognized her, so I asked her name, and as soon as she said it (it's a pretty distinctive name) I remembered everything and immediately regretted talking to her. What kind of person does that to another?

I'm all moved in to my new room, except a car load of clothing and shoes and random shit. I actually have more storage space in a 10' by 14' room (with closets) than in the one bedroom apartment I shared with boyfriend.

It's been rough sleeping alone again, but I'll be okay. Eventually.

Boyfriend no longer snores, thankfully, but he has to be ALL OVER ME at night. Like he scoots closer when I pull away a little, and then I pull away more, and he ends up taking up 2/3rds of the bed. Now I have a whole bed to myself! Aside from a body pillow and a ton of plushies.

A hazard to sleeping alone is that the other side of the bed becomes just another horizontal thing-collector. I fantasize that I'll keep the entire surface clear, put my pillow in the middle and sleep there. So far, a fantasy. Another reason for a partner, albeit the least of them.

Mine will mostly just have pillows, plushies, and cats. Occasionally my laptop and maybe clean clothing that I haven't gotten around to putting away. I don't like sleeping next to a ton of stuff.

I wish my wife were around to hear that word. It sounds like her life before she met me, peeling off her clothes as she came home to her apartment after a night out, picking them up and putting some of them on the next morning before she went to work. I don't think we ever got around to discussing what clothes she discarded.

Today hasn't gone right. Woke up very sore and stiff for no reason, at least nothing I did yesterday explains it. So missed class when I'm already tight on deadlines. Got a few final touches done on the film at least. Then got a call at 4pm from work being all, "You're down 4 to 11." and I'm all, "Wut." Then had to say I couldn't go in because of reasons for missing class. I said I looked at the rota Friday night and was told one rota went up but the new one should have been up by Friday. Actually I looked at it last night too and didn't notice I was on for Monday but I was looking at Wednesday. Also was getting guilted because I've been asking for more hours, except now that I think about it I did ask for more hours once summer starts so I'll point that out. Plus if I went to class I'd have been there up to 5pm, which my manager should know.

The more I think about it, the less I think this is my fuck up.

Welcome back!! :-)

Welu- that is most definitely not your fault. Why on Earth would they think you would come to work an hour before your class is even over?

Primo- Nick has achilles tendonitis and it SUCKS. Try to remember to stretch before any physical activity- no matter how small. Check out your shoes too- worn out shoes or ones not meant for walking long distances will only put more stress on it. Nick bought a new pair of sneakers and his pain went away almost instantly.

So guys, I'm getting married in 11 freaking days. Whaaaaaaaaaat. Everyone keeps asking if I'm nervous and I'm really not....I'm starting to feel like I should be nervous! I'm not worried at all about getting/being married, mainly about getting everything done in the next 11 days (and hey- after that, maybe I'll post about something other than gettin' hitched!). I've done some more fun projects that I'll (hopefully) be posting (eventually). And I finally completed the two tasks that were stressing me out the most! I finally decided on a pair of shoes (let's just hope they are actually at the store when I go to pick them up tonight!) and my dad and I picked out a song. :-) It took forever to figure something out and after a while I started to get frustrated. I made him a CD for Christmas last year and asked him to pick something out for us to dance to. Well....after asking him every month if he listened to his CD, I'd always get the same answer- nope. There was always an excuse "I don't have speakers on my computer", "the speakers on the other computer suck", no time, don't feel like it, etc, etc. I started to get discouraged and think that he didn't really care what we danced to. Finally, I went to my parents' house on Sunday for Mothers' Day and I found out that yes, my dad didn't listen to the CD I made him- he looked up some of the songs and listened to them online. And on top of that, he has been scouring the net for other songs. He downloaded at least 20 different songs, went through like, 6 different lists of father/daughter tunes....I seriously almost cried. He spent just as much time trying to find a song- if not more- than I did! Throughout this process, I've also confirmed where I get my obsessive behaviors from.... :-P We came up with a backup song (Unforgettable) but it just wasn't doing it for us, so we spent all last night on the phone going over more songs that I found yesterday and we finally decided on Midnight Lullaby by Tom Waits.

I have easily spent 40+ hours trying to find a pair of shoes for the wedding and I am fully aware of how insane that makes me sound. I wanted shoes with all of the wedding colors in them, studded shoes, a pair from Iron Fist (*drooooool*), navy slingbacks, white cage/gladiators....then I just gave up and said "anything white and funky" and then I found these. The only issue that I had with them was that my mom is wearing silver shoes for the wedding and I wanted to wear something that no one else would be wearing. And then I realized that those were amazing and comfortable and kick-ass and it's actually kind of cute that my mom and I will be wearing the same color shoe. Plus, I'll be removing the ribbon that they come with and replacing it with a satin navy ribbon for my "something blue".

The only big things left are the centerpieces, corsages/bouts, choosing the cake, sending an email with hairstyles to my hair lady, the itinerary/program and packaging up the gifts for my bridesmaids. Weeeeeeeeee.

Oooh, this should be fun. I recently filmed a band of friends at a big event in town, and the promoter also had a full multicamera film crew also record the event. Because I don't have much editing to do, I was able to post a couple of songs a couple days afterwards, which was almost 2 weeks ago now. Today, the first clip from this crew came out, which happened to not only be one of the same songs I posted, but had the exact same audio.

Now, we're both filming the same event, but I have a particular way of processing my live audio that's fairly distinctive (and has garnered a lot of praise for being some of the best live music audio people have heard). The big telltale, however, is the very specific cheers of individual people heard at the end of the song that could *only* have come from a microphone at the exact same location I was standing.

Before I make a public stink, I'm putting out queries to get to the bottom of it all and see if the record can be set straight. Typically, I am very willing to share what I take, particularly with the bands to use how they want, or even some other videographers have asked for footage from my angle, or even the audio files, knowing I do a good job with it, and I'm happy to help. But not asking is not cool.  :police:

EDIT: Issue resolved. Talked with the videographer, and it seems more general cluelessness rather than malice. He gave me prominent credit for the audio, and we'll discuss any future sharing of resources in advance. Now to see if there's a diplomatic way of telling him you can't just stretch 4x3 footage into a 16x9 frame (in other words, my position as the best live music videographer in town is NOT at risk).

I could see it - what he'd gotten on audio was shit, and he lifted yours just to see if it would work - then never got around to asking.  An easy oversight, but unforgivable to publish it leaving it that way.  I think the fact that he was willing to resolve it with no fuss shows that it was more unintentional oversight than intentional theft.

And am I thinking right that the stretch from 4 x 3 to 16 x 9 gives a 4/3 distortion?  Talk about the camera putting on pounds... everyone's 33% wider!

Or is it 25% shorter?   :psyduck:

Yeah, Carl, I think you're right. He uploaded, and showed it to the band, probably to see what they thought, and since it was "public" on his channel, they went ahead and started spreading it around before he was ready. This is why when I have a clip I need to check things with the band first, I upload it as "unlisted" AND tell the band what that means so they don't repost until I get an answer to my query (or if they're fine with it as is, they can still post links that will work for their fans, and I can change it to Public later when I get a chance).

And from what he's said and I've found out, he's not really a pro, but I guess trying to break into the field, so offered his services for the event as personal promo. And on the face of it, he's bringing 4 cameras and operators, got press passes to have a couple be on stage, so it all appears more "legit" in a lot of peoples' eyes, but the truth is that it's hard to shoot and edit together uncoordinated footage into something that feels natural to viewers. I'm sure it would take even me a while to really understand the flow and to train the other camera operators on what their assignments need to be to provide editable footage.

(Warning: ego unleashed) So I'm happy with my single camera guerrilla style because despite the limitations, I've developed it enough where it sets the standard for what live music video can look and sound like. Just having multiple cameras doesn't mean you'll get professional quality video unless you really truly understand what it takes to put the whole package together. When I do go multi-camera (and I do have plans), I want to jump right to the kind of broadcast quality stuff you'd see in a lot of the pro live streams you see around these days.

Yes. You must always drive on the wrong side of the road.

But then the wrong side would be the right side? So they'd have to switch to the right side, but then they're driving on the right side, which is wrong, because they are supposed to drive on the wrong side, not the right side. Got it?

Okay bitches, I'm out for two weeks to go invade a foreign country, defile their culture, and pillage their cities (especially their incredible variety of kit kat bars) don't burn the forums down while I'm gone.

Fromage congrats on the pending nuptials!

Motherfuck. Here I am trying to get a nap in before leaving the country, and tonight of all nights, some stupid fuckhead decides coming over the fence is a good idea. Right into the rocky side yard. By my room. The room of a highly paranoid jarhead with mild anger management issues and a twitchy dislike of people sneaking up on his position in the dark. Long story short, grabbed my boots, 1911, and head lamp, went outside, called out as I went condition one before rounding the corner of the side yard, fuck stick hops the fence and makes like he learned how to fly. Fucker. At least my old man is handling the police report so I don't have delay leaving.
