QC and Big Bang Theory Cross over.
« on: 29 Jan 2013, 22:31 »

I'm a big fan of both, so I suppose it shouldn't surprise me that during an idle daydream my brain gave me a "What If" where the creators of Big Bang Theory offered to adapt QC into a live action cross-over for a few episodes. Over the course of the 'mini series', Sheldon is invited (aka commanded to) lecture at Smif because the head of the science university in BB has a daughter whose attending there. The entire crew decide to make it a group vacation. Over the course of the episodes the following hijinx occur

1. Marigold and Amy are played by the same actress, and people keep confusing them for each other.
2. Sheldon is being chased by females all over Smif, much to Amy's shagrin. "Sheldon, they clearly only want you for your brain. " "Well, yes, with an intellect as vast as mine, who would want anything else?"
3. Howard tries to figure out how Pintsize works (Pintsize represented as an animatronic puppet), while Pintsize makes many overtures at Bernadette. "I'm not sure what to do to someone who has offended me, but is immune to Ebola virus."
4. Martin and Penny almost have a fling, but realize that it would be stupid.
5. Raj falls for Claire, who is extremely annoyed with him. Raj is majorly psyched because he thinks his fear of woman has been miraculously cured without the use of alcohol, and starts hitting on EVERYONE. Until Claire finally admits she's not really a She yet to get him to shut up.
6. Leonard and Clinton accidently set loose a rampaging robotic enemy crab.
7. Other stuff.

I dunno. Its all stupid, but I felt a need to share my stupid daydream.

Jimbo needs to be in there somewhere, making a screenplay out of it.

If I understand trans* terminology correctly, Claire is "she" right now due to her brain setting irrespective of the stage of transition.

I meant that she was pre op, (I don't recall if was ever mentioned) and given Raj's likely reaction, he'd probably either zip right back into mute mode, or suffer further along the lines of the latent bisexual jokes poked at him. I find that amusing. I actually would prefer if he had a good reaction, as he's known to have a very "...Oh well, this works for me." attitude.

I'm pretty comfortable with the transsexuals in my social circle, one of who thinks the idea is amusing as well. I'm neither looking to argue nor make statements. Just sharing my idiotic humor.

The QC crew would likely finally call Sheldon on all his bullshit reasoning and troll logic instead of shrugging and letting it stand, and it would suddenly get much more humorous as his self deceptions crumble.

The audience would probably fall by 10 million.

I recall seeing a tweet at the side of the main comic page which would suggest Jeph detests BBT. I think his words were "pandering to people's stereotypes of nerds."

I saw that tweet...I wonder what he thinks of "King of the Nerds", because most folks I spoken with find it enjoyable, regardless of their position over BBT.

Also, Faye would DESTROY Sheldon. End of story.

As a physicist (well, a physics graduate student. Don't know if that actually counts), I enjoyed the first season or two of the Big Bang Theory. Yeah, they made fun of the nerd stereotypes occasionally, but it seemed like they had someone on the writing staff who actually knew what a physicist does. I don't know if that person got fired or if there was executive meddling or what, but it seems like at some point they stopped being physicists and started just being generic nerd stereotypes. I don't watch it as much as I used to, but it still seems like that is the case from the episodes I've seen more recently.

If that's the case, that's sad.  And, unfortunately, neither the first nor the last time someone with more brass than brains just had to put his or her thumb in something, and ruin whatever made it good in the first place.

(I will admit, I identified with some of the things I saw in the few episodes of BBT I've seen.)

I just hate how insidiously misogynistic The Big Bang Theory is, how flippantly discontinous its characterisations are and how wretchedly unfunny it is, and I wholly despise the "revenge of the nerd" trend in media that caters the lowest common denominator of socially oblivious, uncritical, self-superior fedora-wearers.

I am waiting for the spinoff show, "The Modified Steady-State Theory," in which characters who aren't especially nerdy, but not especially cool either, just sort of go about their daily lives and are occasionally funny.

We should have the main character meet a girl who was stalking him, which turns out to be okay because she's just OCD and on wonky meds, and then turns out to be daughter of the greatest scientist in the history of mankind AND a billionaire corporate genius who is just a shark tank shy of being an Evil Overlord!

What am I thinking, that's ridiculous.

Fuck it, we're gonna do it live! Throw in an occasional subplot about a band, an over-sexed ditzy science savant (though maybe play up the first couple traits more than the second, we want the audience paying attention!), and a little bird who screams obscenities.
We raise a shitton of money from the sponsors, spend as little as possible on all the crappy actors and effects, and make off with the first-night's loot!

This thread caused me to remember to check Windows Media Center to check how many Big Bang Theory episodes it has recorded that I never got around to watching. I found out that at some point CBS set a no-record flag on the broadcast, so Media Center hasn't recorded any episodes this season. I guess CBS thinks that will make me leave work early to watch it live, or buy the DVD. They would be wrong; I'd rather just not watch it.

Are we talking Politics and Network News now or are we still on our original topic?
It gets so confusing sometimes.

As for Brass ruining good things for the latest trend pop then you had better qualify that as US Brass - Anyone remember Space 1999? When you compare the first season to the second with its ageism, babes, latex and pyrotechnics? It made Starlost look good. Yeah, wooden acting that made the petrified forest seem animated in comparison.
