Got an e-mail from UPS today, a 5kg package is on its way to me from Mantic Entertainment.
Guess that's my Deadzone stuff on its way.

In other news, I'm going to be starting my next Mordheim project, I've it narrowed down to Witch Hunters, Possessed or make a bunch of Hired Swords.

Had a birthday the other day and got a bunch of CSM stuff, so I'm officially back in the hobby, I suppose :p I don't have anything painted yet, but I do have an actual painting that I've been working on for a while. This is not finished, and still needs quite a bit more polish, but I felt like sharing it :)

So, I'm looking for something, and hopefully some of you can hook me up. While I like the cultists in the standard 40k line, I was kinda looking for something to add a bit more variety to the cultists in my word bearers army. Dark worshippy types. I've no clue where to begin in terms of alternative mini sites that sell non-crap though. Any help?

Anvil Industries has some cool cultist like models. Kromlek and Pig Iron make cool bitz if you just want to do bitz swaps.

I believe that one is in fact supposed to be Fulgrim for the word bearers. What's his name again? (The name Scribor gave him that is)

*sneaks in and reads back on this thread*

Ooo, I had no idea this was here. I've been a long time lover of miniature wargames and converting/painting up miniatures... I started on model kits and trains back when I was just a little tyke... then a friend showed me this "Warhammer 40k" thing... I should probably  hate him for all the money he cost me over the years. :)

I am currently working on an army of Eldar, mostly old metal models (like 1990s era, a lot of them) bought from another friend's collection. Based loosely on Irish Celtic mythology to go with my Celtic Fury chapter of space marines. I am preparing the Eldar for a new league starting up at my  FLGS next year, so I'm excited for that.

So a package arrived this morning.
The contents are:
An Empire General
A box of Greatswords
A box of Empire Militia
A Mordheim Elf Mage
A Loremaster of Hoeth
& finally Illic Nightspear.

Hmmm, I wonder what I could be planning. (Hint, its not an Empire army)

So I've read back through the thread, and I have to say that I am really excited for the Toughest Girls in the Galaxy line as well. I wasn't able to buy into the kickstarter, but I plan to buy some of their existing line and get the TGG when the come out. My marine chapter includes women marines. (Because f**k lore, that's why), and a lot of them would bit awesomely into my chapter. Or into their Sisters/Adepta Sororitas allies/companion force. And they inspire me to put together a group of guard allies as well, so I can field a Jailbirds force. I'll probably use their mech/powerloader suits as custom dreadnoughts, since the Dreadknight is Grey Knights only.. but it looks way to cool to leave out. I just don't know where I'll find the money for all this. My army right now consists almost entirely of two sets of the Dark Vengeance marines and second hand miniatures I've bought from people. Plus a Whirlwind and Vindicator I've made from Lego. :)

I also want to pick up some alternate figures from the Mantic, Scribor, MaxMini and Chapterhouse lines of compatible stuff. And probably a scattering of other bits makers. I am not a Games Workshop hater... But some things I think are way over priced. Sorry, I am not going to pay $50 for a Thunderfire cannon. And I like to have variety and customizing in my armies, to make them my own. The only 'official' force I've run over the years has been Space Wolves during 3rd and 4th editions. Otherwise it's always been my own chapter or my own force with my own paintjob and conversions. The creativity is one of the biggest appeals to me in miniature gaming, which is about 75% of why I can't get into historical games.

btw: I found a store with FoW British universal carriers.  they're WAY too big.
I'm thinking that 15mm is not going to work.
so I'm looking for 10mm or N scale APCs.

GM: GAME VAULT of Fredericksburg.  Nice brick-n-mortar store with plenty of traffic.

Yeah I almost spent Thanksgiving with the Feduks actually. They do their Gamer Thanksigiving every year for us poor single bastards.

Here's what I've been working on recently

(click to show/hide)
Light Elf Mage: Avatars of War series

(click to show/hide)
Colonial Marines 1: I started calling this one Riddick after awhile. She was a lot of fun to paint, especially because I was able to give her tattoos. The squadies are from Hasslefree.

(click to show/hide)

Squaddie 1: Battle Ink
(click to show/hide)

Squaddie 2: For some reason she was always the fire team leader. While the "Riddick" mini always was mentally a convict they were using as a local guide of sorts.
(click to show/hide)

Squaddie 3: The Medic, also where I got into some more crazy basing concepts, the yellow piping on the side of the base is actual wire, used here as a large fallen cable.
(click to show/hide)

Squaddie 4: Smartgunner.
(click to show/hide)

Squaddie 5: Comms specialist, also has the squad grenade launcher.

Finally Major Katherine from those fine people over at Privateer Press. I wanted to paint me some ponies so I did! I did however modify the Major a bit to fit in more with my Sisters of Battle as I don't intend to start playing Warmachine any time soon.

Warmachine is a pretty fun game. I picked it up a few months back, with a Retribution of Scyrah starter, a squad box and an extra heavy warjack/Myrmidon kit. I've expanded with a second warcaster and a couple of solos since then. I think the learning curve is slightly steeper than with Warhammer 40k, since the force sizes tend to be smaller and more special rules intensive... I'm always forgetting things that different troops can do. And I'm not sure about the 'kill the leader, win the game' rule. Every game I've played in, win or loss, has always come down to someone killing the enemy warcaster. Half the time scenario goals are ignored in favor of taking out the opposing boss.

I can understand not wanting to pick up a second game though. They tend to be pricey. And even with a smaller model count, you are looking at 200-300 dollars to get into this game seriously.

Like I've said, I've got a Mordheim campaign starting in a couple of weeks and I picked the Sisters of Sigmar for my warband.

Redoing the two novices at the moment, so here are the others. (The original photos look very washed out, so I had to adjust them with a photo enhancer)

Matriarch

Sister Superior

As is quite apparent, I prefer a slightly dirty style and I use a lot of inks.

It's not the price it's just time and shit I already have on my painting table. I have a titan to finish, 30 odd models for my Sisters of Battle, half dozen or so "fun" painting projects, a my Late War British Grenadier Guards/American Airborne for Flames of War which haven't even been assembled yet (not to mention I need to buy the rest of the models >.>;), I have the rest of my Dreamforge stuff coming sometime in the new year, along with my big pile of TGG minis... and a pending thought towards using the 10 high elf reavers and special character I have now and using them to make a Fantasy High Elves army.

Throw all that on top of just not really liking Warmahordes. It doesn't appeal to me the same way 40k, Flames or Infinity does as a game, and to be totally honest many of the models don't really appeal to me either. Certain minis are drop dead awesome, but the warjacks just don't do it for me at all. All told I'd rather throw more money at Dreamforge Games, or buy Osprey's "Ronin" book and do up my Skirmish level Samurai...

Fuck me I am never going to get this stuff done if I live to be a hundred and fifty XD.

Especially now that I've started basing minis. I should really go back and base my 40k armies now that I think of it.

>.>;

Oh goddess. It never ends.

Nope, it never will end. There will always be more things to collect, convert and paint. That's part of the fun of the hobby. :) If I can ever get a decent camera I'll post up some of my own work as well. But it's always entertaining and informative to see how other people work.

268 minis (BattleMechs, Panzers, ASFs and Infantry)
divi by.
4-6 minis per year....
plus 12-16 minis incoming per year...
means:
while I won't outlive Methuselah, 550 to 575 years aint bad, neither.

well, that's an average.
in 2009, I did 40 'Mechs, but zero in 2010.
2011, 2012, were  2-3 Mech/2-3 other years.
in 2013, I've done 3 mechs, 4 tanks, and 4 dozen infantry stands.
as it stands, I've got a battalion of the Kuritan 8th Sword of Light about 90% done;
company size formations for Wolf Dragoons, Liao, Marik about 60%;
and a Word of Blake Level III battalion at about 50%.

My big project is the 7th Northwind Guards Regiment (Reinforced)
a Reinforced Btln of Mechs
+ 2 Btln of Armor
+ 2 Reinforced Btln of Infantry w/APCs
+ ASF Wing (20 ASFs)
+ VTOL Squadron (company equivalent)
+ a reinforced Support company
+ Artillery Btln (3 btty of 6 guns each)
+ Regt HQ company

translated:
64 Mechs, 72 tanks, 24 Infantry stands, 8 BattleArmor stands, 32 APCs, 20 ASF, 16 VTOLs, 18 Arty, 16 support Vees, + odds/ends for the HQ.
I THINK I have everything on hand.  Some are new in box, others are primered, and some have started taking paint.

then I have a mix of Clan stuff that isn't organized at all.

I think I need to find my inventory list....
cause 268 barely covers what I have listed here as 'in progress'

...oh...
frak.
I'm further behind than I thought.
I've got 268 spares in addition to the 'in progress' piles.

oy.

So, I wonder if I'm the only one who's an RP geek enough to do this, but I'm working up some fluff background for my Word Bearers host. Basic concept is a host that is either leaning slightly more towards Slaanesh or is particularly blessed by her/him/it. This would explain the Daemonette allies, as well as my plans to mod some forge world kakaphoni into Word Bearers noise marines.

I always do that too... The only time I ever ran a by the book army was when I was playing Space Wolves. Because honestly, I couldn't make them any cooler as they were. Other than that, I always make my own stories, background, character write ups, alliance with my other armies...

Heh, well, they're still word bearers, but the host structure allows for a good deal of personal flavour.

mmm, Just so. My Eldar are still Eldar. I am just using a craftworld of my own invention instead of one of GW's ones. Celtic mythos inspired to go with my marine chapter. The Tuatha de Danaan of the craftworld Danu.

RP into a 'custom' or FAN-on unit makes it all the more fun to build.

the 7th started out as a tier 3 retiree unit, then became part of the NorthWind Military Academy cadre.
It consists now of the basic training candidates for the entire North Wind Highlanders + the training staff.

Hmmn. Decision time. I need to decide which of these models I want to use for my Daemon allies' Herald of Slaanesh (the standard gw model is kinda meh)

This one: http://www.gamezoneminiatures.com/tienda/en/chaos/51-prole-diabolica-heraldo.html

Or this one: http://www.gamezoneminiatures.com/tienda/en/chaos/24-adalid-prole-diabolica.html

To my aid, fellow hobbyists!

I'm torn. I like them both, but the one with the horn strikes me as slightly more pro-active in terms of pose.

Yep! and you can always run a different model now and then for funsises, or make one of them a counts as for something else so you can run different lists.
