Got home from work and found that my magnets had arrived so I have magnetized the swappable turrets on my cruisers and destroyer and attached the magnets to flight stand and magnets to bombers. Still have 82 magnets.

Oh right, that's something else I need to do. Get some of the Elmer's Tack so I can put minis on a handle of some sort. It seems like it would make some things much much easier.

I've never actually tried the magnetic turret trick.
I've seen a few on occasion, and I picked up a couple of Rommel Tanks with their turrets pre-done...
but I'm just not impressed with the end result enough to try it myself.

TL:DR ... Magnets = meh

Well in this game (Dystopian Wars) there are actually different options with different pieces, and I like to be wysiwyg so I magnetized them. You can just place them on the ships but it doesn't work as well when you're moving them and stuff.

I magnetize all my Leman Russ tanks for my IG so I can swap weapons and the like, if I ever get around to buying some IG flyers I'll do the same with their weapons.

On a ship note, while I posted most of my Firefly stuff in the blog thread, I went back and changed the reaver ship.

Decided to "turn on" the magnetic grapple.

Here's the frigates almost all finished up. After this picture I remembered I needed to paint the windows. Then I decided that the command tower thing should be blue rather than bronze so that I can have something in the middle of the ship that has some pop to it and painted the window frames a bright silver.

On the 3 cruisers I didn't take a picture but I've finished the brass, most of the gold, wood/brown (first layer, second layer is the clean up of slippage), silver, and nearly finished the 3 different weapons. Still have to paint red on the fixed guns and the big turrets, then everything gets a wash of instant skill because it is a small scale and this ain't golden daemon.

Fantastic Jace. Reminds me of Leviathan Warships

In other news. I am out of dullcote. This is the worst possible thing. I have the game pieces and some other stuff sitting around unsealed! The sheer horror of it all!

2.  the Rommel vs. Monty is an awesome piece?  Is that from FoW?  Where from?

Ok, finally got ahold of sealent and wash and finished up the minis. The wash makes a ridiculous difference. I'll come back and do the base at some point, but I wanna start on a few other minis. Now that I've got everything together, I should be able to finish them a lot faster.

This week's projects. A high elf model I'm calling a Sword Sorceress, she is probably going to get a fluff piece written for her.

and Musashi Miyamoto about to win one of his duels. (Another of the "Moments in History" pieces). This one should be more fun then Rommel and Monty because I'll be able to use a lot more color. Musashi's opponent was the picture of a Samurai noble, as opposed to Musashi's much rougher cut of clothing, so it'll be fun to paint that. (Probably use lots of blues for the opponent, and white for Musashi)

Alright, where's a good place to get bases? I'm not concerned about getting any nicely detailed ones right now, just basic circle bases would be great. Square would also work, but I'd prefer circled. The cheaper the better.

Your local FLGS should have them, otherwise just ebay.

Here's 100x for $13 shipped

Assuming you want round 25mm bases

Game Craft minis produces nice round bases from MDF.
I recommend them: http://www.battletechuniverse.org/hpguplink/viewtopic.php?p=172840#p172840
speaking of which, I need to order more of the 38mm rounds.

And then you go to PSC or Old Glory and get 50x infantry models for $6, 10 shermans w firefly options for < $50 and wonder why you're buying from Battlefront. Sure old glory has sort of shitty sculpts, but PSC are killing it with how good their stuff is.

Not yet. I'll give battlefront that much, they've got a good range, though Old Glory has a pretty extensive range of lower quality stuff.

Very, very low quality. Old Glory's proof that you get what you pay for. PSC's a bit better, but just in the name of comparison, PSC only has 178 codes in their WW2 range available. 19 with their modern stuff, including things we don't make yet (things we also don't have rules for, but that's besides the point) if we just take the WW2 codes... (and I'm being generous and including the 1/72 scale stuff) I'd have to count but I don't think their entire line up covers JUST our German range. Which is one we reason we do resin for a lot of our stuff, white metal/resin combos gives us the quality we demand in details/features while keeping our costs low. Changing to plastics for higher demand items like the forthcoming Tiger 1E box makes plenty of sense too.

The bottom line is you (being 15mm WW2 historical wargamers) are still going to be using Battlefront's rules at the end of the day. No one else has near the quality of rules set we have, and there isn't a book out there with the historical detail we provide. So you're going to be using the rules, so why not support the game and buy the minis?

That's the math for a lot of our guys.  However I am not so hardline about it. By all means save some money on StuGs or Shermans, but PSC, Old Glory don't have the specialist stuff. You want to run an SS list? Or my own dear Fallshirmjaeger? We have the range, and they don't, and they cannot begin to afford to catch up. Running Late-war Americans? Just off the top of my head we have two primary types of infantry (regular grunts and paras), that come in winter and summer THEN have all the support options and variants. The order form I offer trade accounts is 35 pages long. Including Mid-War Monsters I don't think there is a single vehicle in the European theater we don't have a model of (Excluding late war wunderwaffen like the Maus, and I can see us doing a Late War Experiementals in the future). For historicals players, being able to be exact is a big deal. They can only do that with us.

Alright, just finished up a couple more minis. This time it was a Stone Golem and an Iron Golem. Simple color chemes, and I'm still finding the occasional spot where I missed a small spot, but I'm liking how it's going. Need to get more paints at some point though.

Sorry about the flash, but I got no place with decent lighting to really take pictured and I don't have a great camera. They're both a little darker in tone than the pictures suggests.

I went with battlefront for my stuff, mostly because I was buying them in store at my FLGS for pat of it, but also because PSC didn't have british artillery and I already owned all the tanks I needed for my list, but for Jess's germans, I went PSC and Zvezda for the vehicles purely as a cost thing. There's a ton of stuff that battlefront has for the brits that I can't really find in good quality elsewhere, but for a bog standard german list, I ain't gonna ruin my wallet for Panzers, StuGs and transports.

Of course, battlefront does have the issue with their infantry having herioc scale syndrome where the proportions of the models isn't exactly realistic. I mostly look the other way on stuff like that though because its 15mm and realistic proportions at that scale looks kind of weird.

Looking good Ackblom, something about the front of the helm on the second mini's bugging me, but I can't quite pick out what it is.

Like I said Jace, for the common place stuff like StuG III Gs, I don't see the issue (tournament play might disagree with me on that, but whatever) with saving yourself some dough.

Concur with you on the infantry, but I prefer it that way for a variety of reasons, myself. They're mostly in scale... this reminds me I have Katyushas and crews to paint, as well as a squad of American paratroopers.

Apparently a while back, battlefront tried to pull a gw/privateer press and say you could only use their models in their tournaments and the backlash from the historical gaming community caused them to rescind the policy in short order. The backlash being like 2 or 3 people showing up for a tournament that normally drew upwards of 20, as well as angry letters etc.

I'm curious, is there any way to effectively add a bow string or something to bows to make them look more natural? Preferably in a way that doesn't negatively effect another portion of the mini.

Fishing line, the highest gauge guitar string (or really, any high gauge metal rod) anything that is thin and can be glued and positioned easily.

If you're a fair hand with resizing stuff on photo shop and a craft knife you can make them yourself with your printer and the right kind of paper.

Woot! Picking up some fun stuff from Privateer Press's Warmachines line. With the new Adepta Sororitas codex out there's a whole new set of shit to modify, and with Priests picking up a strong leading roll, I'll be damned if I actually have to use any of GW's dirty old men in my army. The Protectorate has donated two female warcasters and the special character Nicia as Priestesses to lead my sisters to Glory in the God-Emperor's name. Also grabbing a box of "Daughters of the Flame" so I can fill out the ranks of my Death Cult Assassins now that Battle Conclaves appear to be the order of the day again.

Oh and I grabbed a single Cygnar unit. Major Katherine's Dragoon box. Cause I want to paint a pony. That's why.

Wish I could throw in some female IG cadian models.  The ones I had were from last chancers, a commissar, and a catachan one with a grenade launcher.  Some in cadian armour would be sweet.  Nothing stripperific, just to have female guardsmen would be cool.  Also may have to get the forge world rebreather masks for cadians when I start collecting them.  Mixing them into  the squad would be awesome.

I have the 'nade launcher Cadian, she's my Guardsman Marbo. Also the fluff for my unit says they're a 50/50 male/female split. I wish I could actually represent that on the table top.

the cadian or catachan?  If they have a female cadian I'll gladly look for it.  Sad thing is I do not use 'nade launchers.  The plan was to have a flamer, plasma gun, or melta gun with a melta bomb sarge, voxman, and a commissar in each of the squads per platoon. Each platoon had their own heavy weapon squad (making the 4th squad).  1 platoon had las cannons for their heavy squad, 1 had heavy bolters, and the last one would have auto cannons.  One of the platoons (out of the 3) would have a sniper squad.  Platoon command squads would have melta gun, vox, medic, and commander with power sword.  Company command squad had the same thing but also carapace armor.  Couldnt decide on whether the company command squad should get a chimera though.

Catachan sorry.

You NEED to have voxmen. No matter what. I wouldn't waste time with heavy bolters either, autocannons do the same thing AND can threaten AV11.

Also, I wanted another Exorcist.

It needs some Fleur de Lie... but I like it otherwise. I hate the pipe organ look. It also lets some RAW motherfuckers start trying to complain (never mind an FAQ contrary) that the organ means it can only fire straight up.

You know, Maxmini are about to release a number of female guerilla troopers, who with a little work, could work out well as Veterans for an IG army, or even Escher gangers in Necromunda.

I miss the specialist games.

@ GM: Nah I like having 2 leman russ vanilla tanks throwing down pie plates of doom.  Maybe for the third slot I'd grab a different tank.

@Evil Dog: I'll have to take a look see.  :-D

So th Edition Codex for the Sisters of Battle was released under their High Gothic name "Adepta Sororitas". This is very exciting for my favorite girls, BUT it means... NEW MODELS! Muwahahahah! Unfortunately GW still hasn't bothered to release any ACTUAL new models for army. (and haven't since the early 90s. Trucking towards 20 years without a  new sculpt! Yay! T_T) Specifically a big pile of Privateer Press models from the Warmachine "Protectorate of Menoth" range. Priests and the Battle Conclave look to be making a comeback in 6E Sisters, so I picked up the Menoth female warcasters and Nicia models for use as priests so I don't have to A. give GW money and B. don't have to use their dirty old men in my Girl Power army. I then got a box of Daughters of the Flame to flesh out my Death Cult Assassins. Last but not least I picked up Major Katherine, a Cygnar heroine who comes on foot and mounted on her warhorse as a dragoon. I converted her lance in both figures to have a Sisters of Battle Fleur de Li as the guard, but there's no rules to use her for a Sisters army, so she's literally just a "I wanna paint her and put her on my desk" model. Oh! Also grabbed a new Exorcist artillery tank off of ebay! This one is already an SoB vehicle (it is another converted Whirlwind though) so it's going to take a fuck ton less work then the first Exorcist did. Just add a few Fleur de Lis and some other iconography I have on hand... (I like my vehicles decked out if you can't tell)

To Do list:
DFG:
Leviathan Crusader 0/1 (Assembled ready to base coat)
Leviathan Weapons Arms 0/4 (Awaiting Delivery)
Warhammer 40,000:
Chaos Lord 0/1 (Ready for Paint)
Sisters of Battle:
Priestesses 0/3 (Primed, ready for paint)
Death Cult Assassins 0/6 (Primed, ready for paint)
Exorcist Tank 0/1 (Awaiting Delivery)
Moments in History:
Rommel and Monty 1/1
Musashi's Duel 0/1 (Primed, ready for paint)
Flames of War:
Katyushas 0/4 (primed, ready for paint)
Other:
D&D The Paladin Isteval (GenCon Exclusive) 0/2 (primed, ready for paint)
Dust USMC Heavy weapons team 0/2 (Primed, ready for paint)
Dust USMC Fire Team 0/5 (Primed, ready for paint)
Major Katherine 0/2 (Primed, ready for paint)
