Inspired by some amazing photos in this thread, I think we need a place to post all of the ridiculous photos that we take/are taken of us. Yes, we do have a photo thread and it is wonderful in its own right, but I think we need a place dedicated to silliness!

This little guy is a white lined sphinx moth, he landed on my face while I was doing exterior lock ups at a country club I was posted to as a security officer for a little while. He left shortly after I got the picture, but I knew there was no way in hell any one was going to believe me without said picture.


My friend's car broke down under an overpass as we were on our way to the Renn Faire. Traffic was fairly heavy so we goofed around and entertained everyone. We actually had a decent plot going for awhile there. (I'm on the far right)

Pictures on the Internet do that.  I've pretty much given up trying to educate people about picture sizes and hosting, because I would have no time left if I did this for every case that could be improved. 

But I am about to move in on a couple of over-large avatars (there's one that's about 2MB - just for an avi!)

Isn't there a filesize limiter on the avatar upload?

Uploaded avatars are recoded to 100x100px if larger, but there's no specific check on file size.

Avatars linked from external files are not touched, but the html is forced to display them at 100x100px.  I could set the forum to upload and resize external avis that are bigger than 100x100, but I haven't checked what the effect would be on animated gifs.  Also, I imagine this would only take effect at the time a new avi is specified (otherwise the server would be uploading external avis all the time).

When I've felt the need to get someone to reduce the size of their animated gif avi, I've suggested they use this program which does an OK job.

Those purple gowns and tassels are unique, as far as I know, to The King's School, Canterbury, and I wore them to classes for four years.  At that time, the purple gowns were worn by those with an honorary "senior scholarship", awarded to those with exceptional O-level results; but now it is the school monitors who wear them.   The silver medal I'm wearing was the Pfizer Science Prize (and came with £25, which was pretty worthwhile in 1967), for the most promising scientist in the first-year sixth.

I love my suit, it fits me damn near perfectly... I just think I look damn good in this photo, even my face and my hair's at a good length too. I'm also almost smiling for once, which makes a change. I just really like this photo of myself.

So about 6 years ago my wife and daughter were in London. while they were there they noticed a Star Wars convention or exhibit or something going on and went to check it out. There was a statue of a stormtrooper and my daughter was all like, wait.....take a picture.....ok...wait.......take a picture. This is the result, it does crack me up:
