Hello people! I am Greek, I chose 'Eastern Europe', then I saw the map.  :psyduck:  Technically, it's South-Eastern Europe so I figured 'eastern' would be the most accurate description. Anyway, see you around.

Western europe
France
German border (No they 're not all speaking german there. But many don't speak french either)

and I 'm ashamed to admit that I know much more about local geography than about the rest of the world. I've travelled a lot in my own country, and been as far in Europe as Ireland, Switzerland, Eckernförde or den Haag, but my notions on canadian geography for example are a bit rudimentary...

Eckernförde

wut. It's weird to see such a small city being mentioned here.

It has 23,000 people. That's not that small.

Edit: Never mind, just saw the context. Yeah, that is strange.

Well, it's not world famous. It's in a district together with Rendsburg, so it's not even the largest city in its district (which is called Rendsburg-Eckernförde). If I hadn't grown up around there I wouldn't have heard of it I guess. I think I only visited it once.

Why should you be ashamed? I find it natural that anyone would be most knowledgeable in the geography of their own area of residence simply because most of your travels will be more or less local. It's easy to drive to the next town to go shopping over the day, it may take some planning to go to a larger city because it's too far away to just drive there and back over a day, and to reach a place further away you might need to fly or spend a long time traveling. Personally, I like to travel but I have barely made it outside of Europe (Asian part of Turkey), though I did pass through Eckernförde on two different occasions...

I grew up in sight of the beach in Florida, so my tolerance for the cold stuff is pretty weak.  I do love fall, though - especially in New England when the leaves turn.  If there was a place where it was perpetually autumn, I'd live there and pay whatever they were asking for rent.  :-D

Bleh.  I used to live in Florida.  100% humidity and 95 degrees all day every day gets old really quick.  Especially when it rains and stays 95 degrees.

Oh, I agree, it's just that living that way for a couple decades kinda removes your ability to tolerate temperatures below say, forty degrees.  I got a friend in Minnesota who regularly texts me pictures of his car's outside temperature readout 'cause he knows it gives me involuntary shivers.

I have some friends from my WoW days that live in the South and every time they complain about the 'cold' being 50 degrees, I just cannot help but laugh.  I know the differences in climates and tolerances and what you're used to define what you would find 'cold' but it's still one of those things, you know?

Eckernförde

Yeah I spent a week there ten years ago. I saw Schleswig-Holstein mentionned, so I couldn't resist to add one of the two cities I visited there (well, visiting is a big word, I discovered there gebührplichtige Strand [not sur how to translate it, beach with staying fee?], the other one being Glücksburg). I know quite well Hamburg, been in Ruhrgebiet more than a couple of times, been in Genève, Lausanne, Le Locle - in fact I have been in many cities in western Europe, but I can't tell I know these cities, beacause I haven't seen much of them... that's what touring with bands brings you: geographical knowledge, touristic oblivion, and backache caused by sleeping on the floor of the gigs organizers.

Another from South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale), USA here.

Bleh.  I used to live in Florida.  100% humidity and 95 degrees all day every day gets old really quick.  Especially when it rains and stays 95 degrees.

Now, now. I wouldn't say 100% humidity ALL day - the tourist pleasing weather people say it's 84 degrees and 58% humidity out right now. But my car thermometer parked in the shade says 98... go figure.

I have some friends from my WoW days that live in the South and every time they complain about the 'cold' being 50 degrees, I just cannot help but laugh.  I know the differences in climates and tolerances and what you're used to define what you would find 'cold' but it's still one of those things, you know?

Heh. We keep the AC set at 72 degrees and people complain that its cold. I do enjoy 'cool' weather every once in a while, but I do have to agree that for a Floridian 50 degrees IS COLD! Heck, I was in Philly and needed a jacket in the evening a few weeks ago.

Eckernförde

wut. It's weird to see such a small city being mentioned here.

Even I have heard of Eckernförde (provided it means that place adjacent to Kiel). My housemate from grad school era (a Slovenian dude) had visited an art exhibition in Eckernförde. The painter was Finnish so he gave a poster advertising the exhibition to me. After I graduated I kept the poster since it was kinda cool. Then a coworker saw the poster, and mentioned that the painter is his second cousin. It is a small world.

Hi guys. This is actually pretty awesome, because it's the first time I've ever got to choose Western Europe as my natural habitat. I'm so trained to look for the 'U' option first, then 'B', then 'E', that it took me a few seconds to realise that my geographical area was staring me right in the face :) Thank you, poll-maker!
