@Comic:
Why does "popping a boner" sound like something casually exploded?

I'm thinking the explosion would happen after said boner made an appearance...

Webster's defines explosion as (among other things) "a large-scale, rapid, or spectacular expansion or bursting out or forth."

Also, Claire, only Faye's dismay at herself is saving you right now. Soon, only Pizza Girl can save you!

Okay, guys, my script here says that we are supposed to have a controversy at least once a week, so let's get started. We get paid per thread page, you know.

Is Angus wanting to move really something that should have realistically occurred to Faye? Does he suck for not telling her outright why he was asking? Does Claire have claire-voyance? Are puns bad? Discuss.

Only if I get my cut- the boss skimped the last three weeks. Hell, I had to bring up Enders Game to make enough from the last thread to pay rent.

Not necessarily.

The first time out, no. He was testing the waters. If this was a couple days later then it might be a problem, but he'd be as ignorant to hide it for too long as he would be to throw the whole enchilada in her face.

For someone so blunt, Claire is a good student of the human condition.

Never.

It's common practice not to outright say what we mean. He's testing the water. If Angus tried to convey his wish to move to New York in the metacommunication in the middle of the night he didn't really do a good job with "If we moved to the city" ... that can mean anything and nothing, really. °O

Faye should fashion a mole skull mask.  There would  be an effective social shield which might help Hanners and give people something visual to remember the band by.

It could happen.  Truth be told, Faye has served her purpose in the comic and is no longer needed as a character.  Wanted, sure, we all love her dearly, but QC no longer needs her.  Leaving Northampton with Angus to pursue something she's mildly passionate about would tie up her only remaining loose end, her need to pursue something beyond working for Dora for the rest of her life.  It could seriously happen.

And, it's not like Jeph's afraid of introducing new characters.

He could probably keep the storyline going between multiple cities just fine. (Randy Milholland pulls it off with Something Positive.)

Or, he could pull a Gisèle Lagacé, and do spinoffs of spinoffs of spinoffs (MA3 has spun off into SDB and SOTR, EC has spun off into MC and DC), but IIRC Jeph's history of updating secondary comics (IndieTits, Fartchan) hasn't been great.

I can agree with this. I would be a nice close to the Faye part of the story. She came into Martin's life very damaged and unsure of herself. She compensated for this with the violence ans smarmy attitude but she had been able to grow and heal through her friendship with Martin and the friends they have made. She is now able to have a good relationship with others and a romantic one as well.
While I would be sad to see her go it would be a great and logical next step in the development of her character.

I like how this is a direct tie-in to Fayes beer can disappearing in the last panel. (possibly dropping to the floor)

Well I had always felt that Faye had lost relevance as a character in qcverse. She hasn't been on the Station, she missed the wedding... and besides, a lot of the strips play at the library now, further making Faye oblivious. I mean, the characters hadn't had a good drinking party since EVER.
Faye could pop in on occasion, seeing as Hampton and New York aren't THAT far apart, but it would make no huge difference if Faye left.

A small note regarding the Faye vs Claire incoming explosion... I don't think it will happen. Keep in mind that Faye tends to pick on people pretty hardcore until they deliver a good snap back and show they've got teeth of their own. So yeah, I think after today Claire will be a notch up on Faye's respect scale, not down.

I know that all these characters are products of a single person's imagination and somehow pop out of the writer's mind, so if I like one and not the other, I am really enjoying part of the writer's imagination and find other parts not very enjoyable. It is funny but when I read it, I like some characters and dislike others, as if they are real people.

So I will say that the writer has done a great job with Claire. She is just fun and wonderful. Sure, she is awkward, doesn't think of others at times when she blurts stuff out, and sometimes doesn't show an understanding of others' motivations that are different from hers, but she strives for things she likes, is touchingly vulnerable and wants to reach out to Martin and others. It is sweet.

Also, Jacques making her a transexual was a wonderful bit of background. Martin's response was great and I am sure means more to other readers than me. I recently used this comic as an example of how the world is progressing during a message board argument that arose when a character in Batgirl told the heroine that she was transexual. A mass media character who happened to be transexual meant a lot to many readers who are or who have relatives that are transexual and I bet Jacques' strip has done the same.

I don't know what Jacques plans for Claire, but I am really enjoying her character and interaction with the world. I hope she continues on being Claire the Library Science grad student with her sweet, awkward, sometimes thoughtless attempts to bloom in the world. Of course, the fan boy in me wants her to develop her crush on Martin and for him to get his band going so they fall in love and move in together. But that is just a musing and I don't really try to predict the tragectory of the story.

I think that this is a way to make Faye relevant again. Think about it. This is the perfect senario to surface Faye's fear of abandonment and make her face it. If Angus decides he wants to pursue his dreams in New York, Faye will be put into a real tight spot. Either lose her blooming relationship or make a huge life change she probably isn't ready for.

And teh drahmahs will ensue.

Yeah, but Faye wasn't taking jabs at her leading to her sticking up for herself. She just pulled a Clinton out of nowhere. It'd be incredibly out of character if Faye didn't react.

Doesn't mean there needs to be super drama though. But next strip should have Claire apologizing or being duct taped to a wall. Or apologizing after being duct taped to a wall.
