If I'm reading correctly, it's banned subdermal implants unless done by a medical doctor (so in essence, banning them), but yeah. It got rewritten and all that fun stuff.

Still not happy with what was banned, but it's not to the level that Wisconsin went at least.

No additional money coming in after all, so I won't be getting a tattoo any time soon. Guess the good part is I can think more about what I want to get done. I've come up with a new idea, but it's nowhere close to being finished yet. Also it would be huge and I'm not entirely sure if that's a good idea for a first tattoo. Also expensive.

Oh noooooo, I went to put in an order for Plug Mittens for this winter and discovered they closed up shop 'until further notice' back in June.

How do they stay on? Other than that, they look like a quite quick & simple knitting or crochet project.

Steve, if you tell me what size you need, I could most likely crochet you a pair or two. They look pretty easy to make.

Why do you need them? Is this specifically related to stretched lobes?

I imagine having something potentially heat conducting (especially metal!) in constant contact with a thin band of flesh could prove hazardous in the winter.

Or at least mildly uncomfortable.

Once your earlobes get above a certain size, having jewelry in them, wearing ear muffs or a hat doesn't cover them, then they freeze and break off.

How do they stay on? Other than that, they look like a quite quick & simple knitting or crochet project.

As far as the mechanics of the plug mittens go, it seems to just be two circles slightly larger than the lobes, stitched together about 2/3 of the way around.  Done with stretchy enough yarn, they should slip right on but still stay in place.

Lobe cozies.

They have something stiff in them so that they operate a lot like a coin purse, squeeze the edges to open, let go and they shut.

I just want to point out, that while the idea of getting a stupid tattoo while drunk is fairly common, no legitimate tattoo artist or piercer would do work on a someone who is drunk...

This law is a stupid idea which really only serves to perpetuate negative ideas about tattoos and the people who get them.  It's solving a problem that doesn't really exist.  People who regret their tattoos don't usually do so with in 24 hours, unless it is because of the quality of work, which waiting to get it won't prevent...

Also, fuck the people in the comments, which I should have known better than to read.

I think the only time I've ever gotten a tattoo without having to wait anywhere from a week to a couple months is when I got my first one, and mostly I just got lucky and went into the shop and the dude who owned the shop was like "yeah I had someone cancel like 5 minutes ago."

Also fuck the comments and fuck people who think that because I have tattoos I'll be limited in getting a job.

Funnily enough, it tends to be low paying jobs that are the strictest about visible mods. For example, I lost my job last week (flyering for Dominoes, keep in mind) because even though my manager gave no shits, the franchise owner saw me and was none too fond of my appearance.

I'm supposed to have an interview with a vet clinic soon though.

My job seems to have no rules on tattoos. I, and a couple of other workers, have visible arm tattoos. Though they're really strict on piercings. I shouldn't even be wearing my cartilage piercings to work but they can't be seen because I wear my hair down, which I'm not meant to do either. I think they're only strict on piercings because they're removable.

They are 1" lepidolite teardrops. I bought them used on FB a little while ago. Here is a better pic, taken by the person I bought them from:

I loooove them. I've decided I really love the teardrop shaped plugs in general.

I've never seen anything but round before.  The teardrop's nice!

But how "out-of-round" do plugs get?  Are there triangular or square ones?  How about stop signs (octagon)?  It seems with a large enough stretch, you could really have any shape you wanted...

I've seen various shapes, but the issue that comes up is how well the shape spreads out pressure on the ear. Teardrops are really about the only alt shape that's survived more than a few prototypes because there's no edges to put extra pressure on pin point locations.

I've seen ovals do well, and very rounded triangles. I can see an octagon shape doing well if it's rounded enough, but I haven't seen them anywhere.

Then there's coffin-shaped plugs:

And heart-shaped, though the actual wearable part of the plug is a lot closer to round than the flares (the parts that stick out in front of and behind the earlobe:

Lastly, there are deer antler plugs, which have their own natural shape:

There are square ones as well, but they almost always look too sharp at the corners to be comfortable or good for your ears.

Oh look what I found:

But yes as Stephen said, some of these plugs can put pressure on parts of the earlobe and that's a big no-no. So it depends on the size, how "fat" your earlobes are, how well they're made, etc.

neko, those are really really pretty.

I love the teardrop shape, but 4g isn't really big enough to have fun with that shape. I'm currently happy with the size, but in the future that may change. :P I really need to find a decent pair of super spirals in 4g. I miss my old ones.

Bodyartforms has a butt-ton of stuff like that, Linds. And the benefit of smaller sizes is that you can still get super cute plugs with things like apples or pumpkins or bees on them! And you know, they're not nearly as expensive ;_;

The basic triangle shape, like the plain black ones I posted first, don't seem popular at all. But the modified triangle, like the butterfly wing plugs, seem to be gaining popularity quickly because of Abaraka.

Every time I go there, they only have basic spirals. I like the really tight ones.

But actually glancing at their website now, they do have a few pairs in wood and horn, but sadly no bone. And some pretty glass ones that are more than I want to spend...

What about these, Linds? Not quite what you're looking for I think, but pretty all the same.

Also definitely check back. They get new stuff often. And if you're looking for something super duper fancy, check out Somatic Glass. I love their mollusks and I want some SO BAD.

And yeah I am so damn jealous of people with the butterfly plugs.

Kat, I love those! Opalite is my favorite.

Little cheese, those plugs are actually colored wood, so they're not heavy at all. People regularly wear stone, though, which can be on the heavy side, for example if it's hematite.

The plugs posted are lovely. I really like the butterfly ones and Kat's are so pretty.

Would a tattoo artist mind if I listened to music, through headphones, while they were tattooing me? Timing visits is awkward because I'd rather not go alone but it seems that might be what I'll be doing.

Wow, colored wood? That's so cool!

I see all the fancy plugs here and it makes me want to make some, but I haven't the slightest idea where to begin and I want to use ALL THE MATERIALS. If I ever ventured into making a pair, it would probably be out of resin, but I've read that a lot of people have issues with it. What kind of issues? Have any of you used resin plugs before? What were your thoughts?

Welu- I doubt they would mind, especially if it relaxes you- better to not talk but be relaxed than be super tense and nervous without headphones. But, it can't hurt to ask them beforehand.

Edit: Hmmmmm......I'm seeing now that most people recommend pouring the resin into steel eyelets. That sounds both easier AND safer. And more expensive, naturally.

Resin, as far as I know, is going to be a lot like plastic - not good for your skin, leaches chemicals, stuff like that. It will be more expensive to put resin inside other tunnels, but it will be a million times safer. You can also try using glass tunnels - it looks like it's all resin but it's better.

Also, for those who do not keep up with the comic, the one just posted (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2534) shows a girl with what looks like high cheek piercings. I kind of love how they look but I can't find any online - has anyone seen these before?

Hmm, I'm thinking they maybe are supposed to be the usual dimple placement, I've never really seen cheek piercings not in the usual dimple area placement. It's possible they may be really high philtrum piercings though. Definitely seen a few of those.

Apparently you can go pretty high, but at that point it's not really a piercing, but rather an implant.

Kiiiind of, Surface Anchors (aka Microdermals) are a form of surface piercing and have some of the same limitations that surface work does. They can't really be placed in high movement areas, which would include pretty much the entire cheek. His seems to be resting more... I'm not sure what part of the face I'd call that honestly. It's placed in a more anti-eyebrow location I think.

Yep, that's a surface anchor as opposed to a piercing that has an entry point and an exit. I feel like the ones in the comic, if they're not supposed to just be cheek piercings, would be viable. I don't know how easy they'd be to pierce or heal, though.
