They can't really be placed in high movement areas, which would include pretty much the entire cheek. His seems to be resting more... I'm not sure what part of the face I'd call that honestly.

...his zygomatic arch?

Those photos look like what I have seen called "anti-eyebrow" piercings and incidentally they are really high on my list of piercings wants.

That's what I've always seen them called as well. I'm not sure I could do something like that. I much prefer the standard type of piercing.

Well there's a place in Manchester (half an hour or so away), but no piercing places in Concord. I called up the place, though, and asked how high a gauge they'd pierce, and was told 6, which is exactly what I wanted. I think I know what I'm doing next Friday after classes.

Hey, does anyone know anything about flesh colored plugs? I've seen pictures and they seem like they work pretty well, but has anyone used them? (I wouldn't need them for a couple months after the piercing, so they'd be healed by then)

Your best bet is Kaos brand silicone plugs. I have a couple pairs of their other styles and I love them; I've never tried their hider plugs because my ears are too big to really hide. They should work well, just be sure to take them out and clean them once a day, as silicone has a chance of trapping bacteria against your piercing.

Cool! Kaos was what my minimal research brought up (and everything I saw pointed to). I'll probably order some in a few weeks and put 'em in a week or so before I go home for Thanksgiving. Is silicone comfortable? When my ears were pierced last time I'd never had anything that wasn't steel in there.

Unless you have a sensitivity to it, silicone is one of the most comfortable materials you can possibly wear. Just be sure to use oil when you put them in. Silicone will dry the shit out of the lobes if you don't. That's also another reason to take them out at least once a day.

I used to need oil when I wore the basic Kaos plugs (the thick-walled style, which is what the hider plugs are), but now that I mostly wear earskins (a super thin style), I don't need oil at all. I dunno what the difference is.

Vitamin e oil will probably be the easiest for you to get your hands on. Just put a dab on your fingers, massage it into your piercing a little bit (AFTER it's healed), and then put the plugs in.

Vitamin E oil is the bestest and it's super cheap and easy to find! (It's with vitamins in grocery and drug stores.)

Yeah, Vit E works fine, though I personally prefer Jojoba. It's a bit less thick smells much much better to me. I think it's typically in the nail and hair care aisle.

A couple I want to get. One is a pretty simple one, a US flag and eagle with a banner that says "Proudly Made in the USA". I'll get this on my upper arm.

The other is a bit more complicated. Concentric circle backpiece. In the inside circle, a tribal style bear, tiger, and snake. In the space between the circles, three words. "Ferocity", "Resilience", "Cunning".

I'm sorry if you've already said this, but what are you getting, Jace?

My next tattoo will be one or two of these (I haven't decided yet) with STAY CALM involved somehow.

For those who don't know, that is a heart with Shannon Larratt's forehead tattoo inside it.

He had STAY CALM on the inside of his fingers.

I like the look, I like the words (they mean a lot to me because of my anxiety disorder), and they are a tribute to him.

Talking out an idea with an artist, tattoo artist or non, might help.

I have an idea but it involves words and putting a font on me is scary to me.

So I didn't go to Manchester today and therefore didn't get my ears pierced. Not sure if I want it at the moment plus didn't feel like spending the $70 or so needed for the piercing and tunnels.

My standard for catching up on threads is to immediately hit End to scroll to the bottom and find the place I left off from there. The photo of Shannon Larratt's face looking into the camera blinking past on a 50 inch TV screen made me jump.

Doesn't your's take you to the post after the last one you viewed?

Sometimes I have to wait for the thread to finish loading, but then it just picks up where I left off.  And that's cookie-less, I think it's on the server side.

So I walked into a tattoo store today. Out of sheer curiosity. Didn't have enough cash to get a tat, but walked out with a 14ga plug. Been wanting to stretch to about a 2 or 0ga for a while, so I feel pretty good that I get to start finally.

I got a double industrial piercing about 3 months ago and it has been nothing but trouble from the get go.

First up the bottom set swelled right up so we took the bar out and put two little barbell-y things in instead until it calmed down. Then I got this squishy bubble on the inside of the top set, which hasn't gone away after soaking daily. Plus the others are crusting up a storm. Then two of them started bleeding a bit. I went to me piercer and he said to put steroid cream on them, which hasn't really done anything so far. Then I was an idiot and played with the bubble until it popped and now (funnily enough) it's really sore.

I just want to be able to sleep on my right side again and have a cool looking ear! Is that too much to ask for?

HANNAH! That is the No. 1 reason I've never bothered to get a Industrial despite really loving them. I just don't know if I could deal with the healing period.

Have you considered getting one of those semi circular head pillow thingamajigs so you can sleep on your side without sleeping on your ear?

I'm doubting that it's an infection - unless it's bright red, hot to the touch, and secreting greenish pus, that is. So I don't think antibiotics will do you any good. Do you know what type of barbell is in there? As in, what sort of threading, what material, that sort of thing?

Internal threading, titanium bar? Stainless steel? I have no idea what the material is, other than the standard stuff from a reputable piercing place. I got it done by the same people that did my vertical labret and I haven't had any issues with that which could have come from an allergy.

The guy at the piercing place said that some people get irritations when they get cartilage piercings (hence the steroid cream) but that normally if it's happening on my ear then I probably would have had a similar reaction on my nostril piercing. I never got a bump like that, but it would go really red and swell up if I bumped or moved the nose screw for any reason and I only noticed it not being a problem in the last year or so. Maybe there is a connection there...

Sleeping on the ear probably isn't helping, but because of my back issues it takes longer for me to get uncomfortable on my right side than my left so I end up rolling onto that side when I'm half asleep.

It would probably help to get the other bar switched out to two shorter barbells. The bump could be from the pressure of having a two-point piercing. And the neck pillow that Stephen suggested could do you a lot of good. It's the biggest reason my boyfriend's snug orbitals are healing so quickly.

Those pillow things would be a smart thing for me to get, my left cartilage piercings are having issues and I think it's from sleeping on that side. Both have two small keloids above the front side of the piercing. I managed to sleep on my other side for a few weeks and the bump on the lower piercing totally went away and the top one got smaller but after hurting my back I was sleeping on the left side again and they've come back. I've had the piercing for five months now and it still hurts to the touch while cleaning. My right side piercings stopped being sore after three-ish months. I think when I'm next up I'll get the rings switched for studs and use studs for future piercings on that side. I think that'll help if I rollover on the side during sleep.

A keloid is permanent scarring - though what you have probably looks like one, it isn't. Which is good. Cartilage piercings are just more sensitive to pressure and adjustments than other types.

It'll almost certainly be surgical steel. That's what Polymorph uses for all their basic jewelry.

Cartilage piercings are always fucked to heal and take ages. It's probably that you're not cleaning it enough (which you told me the other week) and sleeping on it.

I started cleaning it more after that! I am trying to make up for past laziness! It just didn't seem to be doing anything and kinda making the top ones more irritated so I went and talked to the guys about it.

I do sleep on my right side a fair bit though, so that wouldn't be helping.

Yeah my eyebrow rings are still crusty and a little bloody after almost a year. I think it's probably because I sleep on them but I try not to. I have so much trouble with eyebrow rings though because I can't sleep on my back so I almost invariably end up sleeping on my face.

The lip ring is completely fine though. Best healed piercing I've ever had.

Also in a few weeks I'll have some nice photos of my finished sleeves for you guys. Only taken 4 years and an impromptu trip to Austria.

They're finished?! Ooo! I can't wait to see them! Also you'll have to tell us about Austria.

Not finished yet!

They were meant to be finished in July but my artist (who I met in Melbourne but has since relocated to Austria) contacted me in April and told me she had to cancel my bookings because she's pregnant and her doctor said she's not allowed to fly. I'll be heading to Austria at the end of October to get them finished so I'm frantically saving to have enough money for everything. I think I should be OK but I want to make sure I have at least $1500 extra to make sure I don't run out of money (my hotel is right next to a gentleman's club, after all).

Aaaah, ok. This is exciting! New country AND finished sleeves! I can't wait to see them - I love what you've shown us in the past. They make me want sleeves of my own...

Hmm. I need to find out what my job thinks about visible tattoos. Not that I'll be there forever, but I do like the place and some of my coworkers have smaller visible tattoos, but nobody has larger visible ones. Also I think the kids would find them fun anyways.

I really need to get more ink done, it's been far too long since I've been under the gun.
