Conducting an experiment to deduce why I wind up with a hangover before a buzz. I think I need more beer.

You shouldn't be getting a hangover while you're still drinking.  Is it a headache?  What are you drinking?

Apparently, there's a fair portion of the population that's sensitive to hops, and certain beers give them a headache as soon as they start drinking them.  You may want to switch to a less hoppy beer...

Yeah, beer headaches can totally suck. I know a guy who would give himself massive migraines during and after nights out. Kinda why I'm a liqour person. Not that I don't love a good beer, I'm just wary.

Slightly disappointing/uncomfortable drunken thoughts:

I may have lost out on making/furthering a [professional] friendship by declining to go to Starbucks with a girl from my class after lunch. I have decided, tomorrow I won't get an energy drink at lunch and will get coffee if she suggests it. I have been rather bad/unsuccessful at quote-unquote (maybe no quotes at all?) networking at these classes.

I'm pretty sure I do have a "type" after all, and it's not my husband, it's skinny scruffy big nosed guys, like the one who's been sitting next to me in class this week, and also my best guy friend from high school.

Please pardon the million.5 different kinds of (fuck what is the WORD all the quotes and parenthesis and shit).

So I'm drunk

I'm drunk after six weeks of partial and almost complete abstinence

and I'm freaking out

but I have no idea why
and I don't want to freak out
I'm freaking out because
this does not belong in the drunk thread
but in the confession thread
or anxiety thread
which are both not public.
I'm also freaking out because
I sent a friend a Skype video message
about his birthday
and I said I'm drunk
and he's gonna freak out
and I also talked about my orgasm issue
which shouldn't be public at all
why am I doing this
why am I drinking at all
why are girls not into me
why am I fat and an asshole
why am I dancing when nobody is dancing with me
why am I sending birthday messages
why am I feeling awkward
why am I talking to you guys
why am I here
why do I even bother

In that case, it was Coors Banquet. I've noticed it with that, and Coors Light as well. Which is unfortunate, because Colorado loyalty and all that good stuff.

I get headaches from some types of beer, mostly crappy ones. Every time I've drank Keystone Light (hey, it was free, so why not...), I've gotten a headache before even getting a buzz from it.

I actually am a bit curious why certain liquors (beer and spirits both) have different affects on people. Not necessarily on how quick they get drunk, but stuff like hangovers, headaches, nausea etc.

In a lot of cases, it's a sensitivity to certain ingredients.  I know several people who get headaches with Coors light (and Coors, too, I suppose) and drink Miller Lite instead.  My wife is one, and I've met a few at the Beer Barn, all with the same complaint, which makes me pretty sure it's something in the beer.

I think it's the hops, because that's one of the least-processed ingredients.  But I don't really have any evidence.

So I'm drunk

this does not belong in the drunk thread

Yes, it does.  You're fine here.

If what they say is true
You are a shadow in the fourth dimension
To float away with you
We see the corners where nothing happens
While we drifted we were one
Ceilings lifted walls were gone
You speak the language of the breeze
All your leaves were meant for me
The love that every person wants to be

I just returned from a birthday party of a friend. He had the best rum I've ever tasted. That stuff was so absolutely amazing. Then I got a little drunk from a cheap rye whiskey.

He is significantly older than me, he's currently working on his bachelor thesis, so most of his friends who attended the party are older as well. It feels incredibly strange to be amidst a group of people you don't consider so much older than you, and listen to them talk about their friends who are married and with children already.

It was a very strange feeling saying goodbye to the guy. Moving away from all your friends is scary.

Eh, imho Bachelor age (about 22 or 23) is still too young for children. Not that I don't know one or two couples who are are married or with children, mind, but in the case of one couple, it was an accident.

The child, not the mawwage.

There's a girl on my course who is either 19 or 21 (I've heard varying reports) who is married with a baby. I don't think it's too young, although maybe for some people it would be. Equally some people are still too young at 41.

Thanks to Facebook, I know a lot of the people I went to high school with have kids now (we're all 24/25), a lot of them even have two or excepting their second soon. I have to admit when I first saw that some of them were pregnant a few years ago, I went 'uh oh', but looking at photos and hearing things from mutual friends, the kids all seem very happy, their parents love them and it seems to be going well for everyone. A girl in my brother's year had a kid when she was I dunno, 16/17, and while that wasn't exactly planned she seems like a great mother and role model for her daughter, she's even been in the paper quite a bit writing about what it's like to have a child while doing part time uni. Of course people this young won't have a lot of life experience and insight that older parents might have, but that doesn't meant they're not good parents. If you have your first kid at 21 or 35, it's still your first experience as a parent, and how it goes depends more on the person than their age, I think.

After having woken up now I definitely am of the opinion, that I shouldn't cycle anymore when I'm tipsy. I wasn't having any trouble cycling in a straight line, and I was definitely under the official limit for drunk cycling, but I tend to cycle much faster/with more power than I usually do, so my fucking legs are aching now.

At least I'm not hungover.

I now remember why I don't ever go to clubs, because cunts hang out there. Also it gets expensive after midnight.

Seriously, last night was some sort of freak show of twats. Both in the sense of the patrons and the poor girls who have to work there, in hideously revealing outfits (short skirts, shirts that are tied up around their midriff and don't cover their push-up bras, etc). Some prick asked me if I was the "gay best friend" of some girls, two of which were my friends, one of which was my girlfriend and the other one was her sister. Proceeded to show him by girlfriend and another friend grinding me/generally making a dance sandwich, with me as the man-filling. It was great.

It is kind of weird and slightly problematic how many insulting names are also euphemisms for genitalia. That thought struck me when reading your post but isn't specifically intended as a criticism of it (or at least, no more than any other post using those words).

Wow, you're right. I don't think I've ever used that many euphemisms before in a sentence. It might be that I'm subconsciously still reeling from the overtly sexual nature of the place (it's a "Chicagos", have you heard of them?) - girls on podiums in hotpants and bras playing with fire, girls on 6ft stilts with skirts not even covering their crotch. One girl came around asking for shots, again with the bra out/short skirt, and she said that men just touch and grope her, and it's disgusting, and it's not even a well paid job. And I generally don't like drunks getting in my face, propositioning fights, or even asking about one's sexuality as it doesn't matter at all. The Topman/Jack Wills elite were out in force and hopefully this will be the last time I rub shoulders with them en masse.

You're right to criticise, I should probably tone down the swearing generally, and I try not to use the c-word, but you know, this is the internet and all that.

I wasn't really criticising, I simply was caught by the fact that it is a fairly common thing and your post was a good example of it. But that bar sounds disgusting. How did you end up at it? Also, "this is the internet" isn't really an acceptable reason to behave less well than you would elsewhere...

You're entirely right to criticise! I'm a Literature graduate, I should be able to do better than "twat".

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. I'm guessing this is ok to post?

(click to show/hide)

We ended up there because I was taking someone else's advice and it was the cheapest place to go for the students/unemployed in our group. I didn't realise that it was going to be such a lewd place, and I won't be going there again. Also, the drinks were made from cheap spirits and the beer was watered down. It's now on the blacklist.

I know, I don't think changing one's behaviour is acceptable, but somehow writing a swear word (or reading it in print) seems better than actually verbalising it; and I'd argue that our online personalities are slightly different to our real-life perceptions of ourselves. The fact that rape and death threats are common on Twitter give a strong argument to keeping your head about you when posting online.

Oh I agree that people are often different online than in real life - online, I talk a lot more about serious things and quite a lot less about kitties and babies (I prefer online me, to be honest) - but often people use it as an excuse to do stupid stuff. I was just thinking aloud really.

That is the weirdest thing, is that girl one of the waitresses? Why is she on fire?

Shit I've heard of working hard for your tips but being on fire seems a bit OTT.

I kinda want to go to this bar just to see what the fuck is going on.

Trouble is I actually didn't know what the fuck was going on for a long time.

She's playing with some of those circus-style flaming sticks. One girl had two batons, this girl had like a candelabra kind of deal. It was a little podium performance two girls did. For really no reason whatsoever. I know that the male psyche generally dictates that nakedness and fire are both cool, but I don't think they go together very well!

Should've got some pictures of the girls on stilts, but going to a bar and taking pictures of half-naked waitresses would've made my night worse I think.

Worst part?

Someone proposed and got engaged in this hellhole.

I don't really think that outfit is particularly sexy. Maybe because it looks like school uniform except she forgot the skirt.

Perhaps the skirt was there earlier and has since been removed?

This is the second worst hangover I've ever had. Granted I can count how many hangovers I've had on one hand, but I thought I was done with this crap. I didn't even feel like I was ok enough to drive to get hangover breakfast this morning. Also said breakfast made me feel drunk and napping has not really taken this feeling away. Blegh.
