Holy crap. We now have plans for a farewell evening for me, and damn, this is going to be hard. The friend I've told you all about who's member of a Studentenverbindung will come to visit as well, and he's so incredibly used to drinking now. In the preparation group chat he interpreted basically every mention of something to drink as a challenge. I'm afraid. I'm terribly afraid of Wednesday evening

Could you tell the friend that you don't want to drink yourself into oblivion and it'd be polite if he didn't either? Or are you worried about something else?

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

I'm pretty sure it was more jokingly than serious of him, so it won't be too bad. We were all just poking fun at him, as he used to drink not more than two glasses on one evening, and now he had to drink about 5 litres of beer almost every evening since he joined the Verbindung.

Oh lord, I remember when I was a cheap date. I went from teetotal in 2008 until by 2012 it took a bottle of whiskey and some blow to get me a buzz on. Thank fuck I'm not at that point any more.

Damn, that was too much.

I'm missing about an hour. The friend I talked about was even worse off. He slept at the hosts place. And apparently I made fun of him when he stopped drinking. I'm not hungover, but rather still a little bit tipsy. Damn.

I have reached rock bottom. Yesterday I had no more than two glasses of wine, over the course of two hours, I didn't feel drunk at all. I still woke up with a hangover today and I can't get rid of it. What is wrong with me.

Your body might be starting to reject alcohol. My Dad has similar issues with booze after years of drinking normally.

Could be some compound in the wine itself.  Do you get a similar reaction with beer or white wines (I'm guessing you had red last night)?

I did drink red wine, but I'm not sure if that matters since it's never happened before with red wine. Or any other type of drink really, I don't know what happened. I'll worry if it happens again, but I'm good for now.

Is it possible it wasn't a hangover? Most of my hangovers were in my 20, 30s and 40s, not so much in my 50s and hardly ever since then, so I might have forgotten. So remind me; how do you distinguish between the discomfort of a hangover and other kinds of headache, other than the fact that you drank a lot? I recall that one sign was that there was extra pain when I moved or shook my head, even with the mild ones.

Got drunk. Up until 5am. This included writing and recording some house music with my housemate (ha). Nearly got barred from one pub because our mate threw up on herself. Was a good night!

I get muscle pains and a dry mouth from dehydration. When it's hitting hard, everything feels too bright. The headache feels... like you are wearing a wool hat that is way too small for your head, I guess?

So, the good thing about being drunk and in a relationship is that when you send drunk/sexy messages to your crush, it is actually your partner and it isn't embarrassing, just cute! Kind of wish he was right here so I didn't have to send messages in the first place, but oh well. This wine is pretty good.

There's some alcohol that shouldn't be savored.

Tequila comes to mind...

mind you, I've never had good tequila.

The worst shot I ever had was a brain hemorrage, which is gross enough but drinkable, that I had to wait on my friend to drink because WHOO DOING SHOTS AS A GROUP ACTIVITY and the Baileys has clotted into a disgusting lump. It clots almost instantly but after five minutes it was like swallowing a half inch ball of snot.

Ahh, shots. For us it was always the typical northern German "Korn". Where I come from that's a typical drink of the more rural areas. It's great actually. You're in the city and people drink whatever they like. Then you visit a friend who lives a bit outside, on a farm, and everybody who's there drinks Korn. And most people who live there drink a lot of it.

There is no such thing as good tequila. There is just tequila and "oh god oh god we're all going to die" tequila.

Tequila is horrible. It tastes like when you can smell rotting fruit and it gets lodged in your nose and so can taste the smell.

Gimme sambuca shots any day.

I am drunk right now.  For the first time in several years.   Like really drunk.  Went to the bar across the street, not expecting to meet, you know "people" (sorry trying to spell check but you can probably tell)  Sat nest to a blind guy with an adorable seeing eye dog (9 years old I over heard). A couple of girls sat next to me.  Stuck up a conversation with the one closest to me.  Spent all night talking it was great.  Her 3rd date with a guy (which would have been today, is now tomorrow) I wished her luck on.  I traded numbers with her expressing that I am new to town and I just want to be friends ( she was adorable though) but I hope for the best for her, even though going on this date tomorrow means not seeing her family ( hell I havnt seen MY family in forever!!!) I wished her the best luck ad said "Hey "L" I know this is gonna sound pathetic but again I just moved here a few months ago and don't have a lot of friends.  Can I give you my number and we can hang out sometime? just as friends!  She said sure because she visits this area often (her friend lives close by). Is it weird that I wanted to date her and not want bring her back to my place?  Man I hope she texts me at some point to hang out.  I could really use some company!  Hope her date goes well!

I also found that for the past 5 years I have met several great people with the same name as "L" one of which I considered my best friend at UMD...until my ex got jealous and I ended up not hanging out with her anymore...I feel like a douche for doing that for my ex...

This might fit better in a "drink" thread than in a "drunk" thread, but I have had a revelation! In a desperate attempt to turn off my brain after a long day of mysterious illnesses on an under-staffed over-filled ward, I decided to imbibe a concoction of gin mixed with apple cider and some lime. I fully expected it to be absolutely fucking disgusting, but instead it turned out to be DELICIOUS! This has been the only good surprise today but it was a VERY GOOD one

Also last week I got high with boyfriend and I drove high for the first time. Not something I'd recommend, but I did fine.

Yeah please don't drive under the influence of anything stronger than caffeine...

Speaking of, in Washington state there are signs that say 'Don't drug and drive', which I thought was pretty funny for some reason. Is this because marijuana is legal there, or do other states have those signs too?

Both I would imagine, because of the perception that pot isn't harmful/dangerous, I find people more regularly do very unsafe things on it. At a comparable rate to alcohol even.

I was the least high one in the situation and we had to get home. It was at 4 am, so no one was out, and I was very careful. Still not the safest thing, I know, but not even half as bad as driving drunk.
