Deathmøle music
« on: 13 Aug 2013, 08:07 »

I like the sound of it but something seems off to me and makes me feel like I have to pop my ears when listening to it. It starts giving me a headache after awhile, which sucks. It's less in the more recent albums, especially on the "hidden" Permanence album on bandcamp.

Most of the songs sound kinda the same in my opinion, like the guitar takes over way too much and then it's just kinda.. noise :(
I do love the Snow in Sun song off of the Permanence album.. very very much. I like that secondary guitar effect where it sounds kind of echo-y and off in the distance.

All I can say is it is not for the... uninitiated.

Also, while I don't hear it in a lot of Jeph's  stuff, overcompression can do weird things to people's ears. I have a friend whose ears are super sensitive to compressed bass, to the point that he can't attend a lot of shows because of the way live bass has to be mixed.

The ear popping thing is probably a result of the fact that Jeph generally completely hollows out the midrange of the song and then compresses the shit out of it.

I haven't actually heard any of the Deathmole material yet.

I'll get around to it eventually, I suppose.

So it's easier to find for everyone, right here is the song I'm talking about.
I love the song.. but it feels like most of it was recorded in a tunnel.  I can't wait to hear the professionally mastered version. :D

I'm definitely "initiated" in metal, having about 50GB of it in my personal playlist. Anything from black metal to heavy metal.. love the symphonic type :)
