Hi, guys!
« on: 07 Sep 2013, 00:34 »

I suppose I should post in here!

Hey, I'm new. I joined about a week ago to post some fanart, and haven't ventured outside of the create forums since. I've been reading QC since 2009, and of all the webcomics I come and go from, QC is the only one I keep up to date with.
I'm twenty one.
I'm a fine art student, and I draw a lot. I'm nowhere near where I want to be, so I practice daily (or at least, I try to) so if anyone has any requests, throw me a note, chances are I'm probably going to need an idea for something to draw sooner or later.
When I'm procrastinating, I play videogames. My current favourite is dark souls.
I recently started watching naruto.

...I think that's it. Art student, gamer, procrastinator extraordinaire. Nice to meet you!

I do get the feeling that the Welcome subforum has become less about welcoming and more about filtering out non-geeks

Well, you might be right. Some of the welcoming lines may have been overlooked lately.

So Nutty (looking down at the boilerplate), read the rules, see how they're observed (and sometimes in the breach, but not too often). Check out the wiki for a lot of background about the comic and its characters and even a little about the forum. Have you wondered why you began life here as a notorious N.U.R.R.? It's in the forum wiki. This is a pleasant group, often an extraordinarily supportive one, and I don't think we're that hard on non-geeks. In fact, I may not be a geek at all.

Aha! Cool, thank you. I've poked around the main comic site at jeph's character descriptions and faq before, but not the wiki. New place to buff up my QC knowledge. I read the rules right after my very first post (whoops) and people have already been really supportive in the make thread, so that's cool.

I don't think I'm qualified as a geek, unfortunately. I'm not entirely sure of the requirements, so there's that.

I think you qualify under Appendix III, Subsection C, §4b of the Secret Geek Admittance Code. We lost that one when Joe took the only copy and jumped into the jaguar pit to your left, so we have mostly been playing it by ear and oral tradition for the last twelve years. (Although I have a suspicion that no matter  what Roderick says, "I have a weird name" didn't automatically get you in).

Can't let the world know we have no idea what the acceptance guidelines are, mind you.

Eh, if you know pi to anything past 2 decimals then you are, in my eyes at the least, one of us.

3.14159...., which is, as far as I know, enough precision for 99% of all practical applications.

...I suck at this pinis comparison.

Now the same for e...  Oh heck, just work it out knowing pi and that e^iπ=-1 :-D

OK, I guess I qualify. In study hall, I used to multiply 186,282 by 31,558,149.8. In the 1950's, that would have been with pencil and paper. And the first number might have been different, something like 186,273. I forget.

I prefer the version e^(pi*i)+1=0, myself. Has all the important constants.

You don't suppose it might be related to dilation of the cervix -- 10 cm x pi to determine circumference? I don't suppose so either. Nor does the number of miles in a light-year.
